I got this stupid thing going on and I am not sure which site I should trust to help remove it.
Anyone have experience with it?

I'd recommend the second answer by "Soccer Dave"...I use both Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware...both are free and effective.

If you are going to install any software to combat this go a software store and by the disk. I have Avanquest Fix It Utilities 9 Professional and McAfee running and all is right with the world.

Do NOT install McAfee. The only app worse than McAfee is Norton. The top rated anti virus programs are AVG Free (http://free.avg.com/) and Avira (http://www.avira.com) and they're FREE. AVG uses a little more resources than Avira but avira asks you what to do everytime it runs into an infection. No single antivirus program or spyware program will find everything, but those 2 are the best.
For malware (malicious software) Spybot search n destroy is probably the best.
To see if you are infected, the best scanners are online:
Norton (http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=23&pkj=BVNTOBSOCUEWUXLQOTJ&bhcp=1)
Panda (http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/?)
or Kaspersky (http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner)

Thanx for the welcome.
I do this for a living. Sorry, but I know what I'm talking about. I've been in the IT feild for 7 years and now own my own company. 90% of the the computers that come across my desk are here because of virus/malware infections and most of them are running either McAfee or Norton. I have never had an infected PC to work on that had AVG.
I've had several customers that I've built computers for come back for another build for families or friends and always request I put the same AV program on the new one as they've had no infections and love the setup I gave them.
Kaspersky and Panda are the best pay AV programs, but there is no reason to pay as AVG and Avira will do as well.
I have to know what I'm talking about, my reputation and business depends on it.

I guess I was confused by you calling Norton worse that McAfee then recommending Norton first as a scanner.
I am not an expert but the way I am doing it on my PC has been bulletproof for me for over 4 years now.
Hope to see you on the hockey thread. I will be on the outside looking in since my team got the boot.

The Norton online scanner is updated more often than the program. The main problem with Norton and McAfee is that they slow your system down more than necessary. Now even AVG is getting to be that way. If you have a new i7 processor and triple channel memory you probably won't notice it but for most computers Norton and McAfee take up too much resources.
As far as hockey, sorry about the Rangers going out so quick. I haven't been able to see any playoff games this season because I only have VS and they don't seem to like the Red Wings.

CHOO CHOO!!! Here comes the Karma train!! I just got my PC back from the Geek Squad. I could not delete the Go.Google virus the second time. Some people have nothing better to do than f up peoples computers. It is probably the computer repair comapnies doing it. I tried doing a system restore and screwed it up. It is amazing what you can get done in a day when your computer is in the shop. My system is now running with Kapersky. Bryan, should I upload AVG and avira also?

Avira's been working for me. McAfee won't work with 64bit Vista so I had to look for other options. Wife is very indiscriminate about clicking a link. I let her and the kid have their own puter and I've no qualms about wiping it and starting fresh if there's a problem.
No one gets to play with Daddy's system. Ever.:zap:

you can run multiple spyware programs but only one anti virus program. Avira is now the best free antivirus, AVG is second but the trouble with Avira is that it asks too many questions and has too many notifications that the normal user woudn't know what to do.
As far as pay versions, Kasperski is probably the best, in my opinion it is, there are some that would argue.
I'm going to private message you the tools I use so you don't have to pay those &%$#&@$!'s at geeks squad again. I just can't post them publicly as my partner would kill me.

It's me again. I just received an e-mail from a friend who told me that a "funny pic" he sent me earlier in the day contains a virus. Lucky for me my newly installed Kapersky software pretty much refused to let me open it.

Just for my reference, was it an email with a virus or was the virus embedded in the picture?

It was the latter, a virus in the pic. Should I send it to you? BTW, thanks again.

Nope, I can't do anything with it, I just wondered how good Kasperski was. This proves it, it's good cause most won't catch that.
