The trash can!! :P We tried using the diaper genie and another, but it was always upstairs, and we hardly ever used it, I just throw it into the trash can, unless it has a terrible smell coming out of it, then I throw it oustide in the trash.

We used tge diaper genie for the first child, pass on that one. We use one now for our latest and its like the genie except it uses regular garbage bags. It's not bad but between bag changes it helps to let it air out a little bit and spray with Oust, or Lysol.
We're using the diaper genie for Tara... The newer one has a much easier to use lid system. Our old neighbors had the old kind, and it was kind of complex...
Since I have no experience with other kinds, I'll just say we're happy with what we use.
And it contains the stink pretty good too! :-&

The new diaper genies work good. That is until your wife throws out the ring thingy at the top. Then it doesnt work. So you buy another diaper genie.
Ring-thingy is the technical term for the twisty-part at the top when you open the lid.

I use the trash. When the bag gets full I tie it up and take it out. Sometimes if it a smelly nasty one I keep those plastic shopping bags and place the diaper in there and tie that up and take it out.

We use the Diaper Champ, probably only because it was a baby shower gift. Works well but you gotta change the bags fairly often and disinfect it to avoid permeating odors. The bigger the kid gets the smellier the diaper!

With our 2 almost 3 year old I dump em in the trash outside. We used to use the daiper genie but it was horrible it began to stink and it began to fall apart. So we just run outside and dump it in the trash. No need to stink the house up.
However with our littlest one I just throw them in a small waste basket by the changing table because they dont stink and take it out when it fills about every day or so.

We got a changing table, and ya know, I have never used it, it is in his room, and most of the time, I have him changed before he goes into his room, and for some reason, my son does not pee when he sleeps. He always wakes up with a dry diaper. Sounds crazy, but it is true.

My son is the opposite, he wakes up with a full diaper and many times I change him before I go to bed to avoid leaks. At one time I even rigged 2 overnight diapers. One a size bigger, put it on first, sideways (if that make sense) the the other diaper on the "right" way and that prevented leaks.

Did it work, using two diapers to prevent leaks, that is pretty funny too, I am glad I am not in that situation. I dont know why he doesnt go when he sleeps, but you have to be careful, as soon as he wakes up, wait about 15 minutes before changing him, as he pees everywhere if you dont watch out.

it worked most times. As long as you "rig" it right :D

Very inventive Don, if we ever start having a blowout problem, I will try it out.

Someone gave us a Diaper Genie we tried it for a short time. With twins it was easier to just take the garbage out.

We have a "diaper champ"...takes no special bags, and have had no problem with odors seeping through...like was mentioned earlier in the thread, the only problem is is that you do have to change the bag out fairly often (we use plastic grocery bags, so it doesn't take long) but all in all we are very satisfied with it
So I'm assuming my habit of arranging everything in Rachel's room to be available while holding my breath is probably not an ideal alternative.

hate the diaper genie. We got a little stainless steel trash can from Target. Push pedal with a removable inner bucket. When it fills up, usually one or two days I empty it outside in the big garbage cans. Works great.

I'm with hockeydad, we had one of those Genies and there was nothing genielike about it. Dealing with the long sausage shaped bags wasn't easy and the smell...oh the smell...I gagged everytime I open the darn thing. I am scared for life you know...
We did the push pedal steel can too for a while, but man, once she started into solids, there was no way that was holding anything in. Every three days I empty the genie and it works grand. Don't even deal with the sausage roll, just hold it up with one hand, wrap a trash bag around the bottom, undo the latch and it all falls in. Easy schmeezy.

Now that it's winter, we just open a window and toss them in the yard. Figure we'll collect them when they thaw.
Just kidding.
Yeah, the idea of opening a metal trash can full of diapers is not appealing. The Diaper Genie can be a pain to use (it's too easy to push the diaper through the twist) but the reduction in smell is wonderful.
