Why would anyone else be a Cowboys fan? T.O. is gone, so there's really no reason to watch now, right? :icon_lol: :icon_wink:

I have never bought into the rookie QB thing. There have been WAY too many busts, for the Jets AND for the NFL to speculate.

Of course you could go on and on about how he pissed gold in college, but the NFL is a different game and anything can happen.

Ryan Leaf was supposed to be the next 'best thing'. Browning Nagle supposedly could throw the football through the goalpost while kneeling on the 30 yard line. How'd he do for the Jets?

I guess that's my long way of saying: Looks good, but only time will tell.

Heck, I'm a Jets fan...I've been let down SOO many times it's hard to feel hopeful about anything that they do! :icon_lol:

Patriots. They've made good moves, including the recent pickup of Burgess. If Brady stays healthy (and I wish they'd take on Vick for one year -- it would be smart for both sides), they'll be tough to keep out of a first-week playoff bye.

I'm pissed that the Packers are even considering Vick -- Rodgers has finally stepped out of the Favre shadow, and the last thing the team needs now is more drama.

The Pats, however, seem like a decent fit. I could see them using Vick for some trickery through the season, and the veteran locker room should keep him in check and help keep the drama to a minimum.

I don't see the packers picking Vick up, I just see this as a publicity stunt by the GM.

I agree with NCD if the Pats pick him up they have enough veterans to keep the Dumba$$ in-line plus I see Belacheck (SP?) making him a wide out not a quarter back.

Well, as a long-time Packers fan, and Favre supporter, through years of errant throws (offset by some spectacular plays), and most recently through the embarrassment of the "I'm retired...no, I'm not" game, I officially say WTF?!?!?

I loved watching the guy play. I wished him well when he played for the Jets. But now? I realize I'm a little late to the "This is fucking ridiculous" party, but I'm there now.

What a dipshit. This back and forth is revealing some true colors about the guy that I don't admire. :icon_mad: Just suck it up and walk away, for christ's sake.

Brett Farve? Who is he? 10 million is who he is and seems all he has is football. What about his family, charity work or a new passion? He will be 40 years old in October and can't move as fast as he used too. Viks are still making mistakes and this one will cost them dearly in the long run. I don't wish any ill will on the guy but staying healthy and protected is going to be a challenge for the Viks. Good luck with all that..:icon_lol:

I like the Favre saga. It's good for Minnesota, when do you ever hear about the Vikings? They barely get 30 seconds on ESPN every Sunday. Now they will get all kinds of media attention, the Brett Favre soap opera train just made
Minnesota the talk of the town? Who was that Vick guy anyway? :icon_lol:

Minnesota is a much better team than the Jets, If Favre can manage a game and throw only 1 pic a game, they have a chance to go at least .500. Hand the ball to Peterson and watch the Vikings defense play solid D.

09-02-2009, 02:24 PM
Can't totally blame him on that play. He's a 50 old man. Maybe 60. Give him a break. He shouldn't have been put in that situation where he needed to throw a block. Not many quarterbacks know how to properly block and asking an old one to do it is even worse. He didn't even know how to do it and even bailed on it as he was doing it by turning his head in fear. Stupid play....surely. If it wasn't Farve that did it and it was just another offensive player this would be a non issue. Get over your hate people. Y'all have the "wanna see him fail" syndrome. I want to see him whoop ass. That is exactly what he did in that game. Get some Farve. He's worth every penny of his contract.

DarthDaddy
09-02-2009, 04:12 PM
I don't have the want to see him fail syndrome... I think he has had an amazing career and did some great things. The whole retirement not retirement thing was crazy and made him a tool.

As for the block really if he just got in the way he would have achieved the same result. Being one of the oldest players in the league he should know better then to do that type of block. Those blocks END careers... I don't care who did the block it is something you just don't do... If either Manning or any other QB in the league did it I would feel the same way. Players do stupid things, but as a professional they should know better...

When I see the O-Linemen and Running backs going too low I also want to see them smacked!

I blame him, but also blame the coach. Let's follow the logic here: You just dragged a near-40 y.o. QB out of retirement, paid him $10+ million, then set him up as a wideout to throw a block on defender? In a pre-season game, no less?!? WTF? Coach should have his head examined. That was stupid. Keep him healthy, idiots.

That said, yeah, that was a nasty block. Not cool.

Ugh, I have no clue why the Titans went went to a soft cover 2 late in the game.

And honestly... I think that extra pre-season game (hall of fame game) was showing as the Titans defense really looked winded towards the end.

There were a couple no calls on the Steelers that I am really wondering why they weren't called. Think it was Harrison punching Collins in after he had thrown the ball away. The one Steelers D man taking off his helmet. IN the endzone one of our recievers got flattened after he missed a catch (new rule this year, can't hit a defenseless reciever.)

Also, quite a few blatant holds that went both ways, a couple real obvious by the Titans LT Roos. And I saw a lot on the front line of Pitts as well.

But those first 3 I pointed out were in the middle of the play so they could definitely be seen and should have been called.

Oh well. It was the type of game that I was expecting between these two teams. And with the way the defense ended, you could tell the Steelers wanted it more.

*cough* *cough* Jets are 3-0 *cough* *cough*.

The game started out STRONG with the Jets taking a commanding lead. I saw an bad-ass attitude in them that I haven't seen before....confidence usually only seen in good teams. That sounds funny, but it's true. They had a air of arrogance like their shit don't stink and their play reflected that...it was like watching a team full of hockey fans. :icon_lol:

The 2nd & 3rd Qtrs brought out the old jets for some reason, but they finished strong. Yeah, they were playing an 0-2 team, but they also gave it to the Pats in the keister once already this year.

I'm not saying they're a phenominal team, as it's still WAY early in the season (and I'm a lifelong jets fan, so I know better than to count my chickens before they hatch) but I'm liking the way they are playing. I'm hoping this is the start of a new era and of good things to come.

:icon_lol:

That game just threw me into a funk.

I honestly don't know what to make of the Titans this year. They seem to be a seriously under-achieving good team. Hell, we have a tough as hell schedule and we have lost by 3, 3, and 7 :|

Every week a different part of the team seems to decide to fail and screw the rest of the team.

First week was d-line getting no pressure at all on Rothlesiburger, second week our safeties bit on play action when the front 7 had the run stuffed completely and yesterday the special teams truly looked special out there.

Gonna be a long year.

Thats funny stuff.

Believe you me, I know where you're coming from. There have been MANY years where the Jets were in limbo: Having the talent on paper, but not utilizing it and just sucking ass.

It's frustrating as anything, which is why I hate speculating on a season and tend to just hold off on commenting and just waiting to see how it plays out.

...and yesterday the special teams truly looked special out there.

I still can't get over that the Jets are fortunate enough to have Revis on their side. He could/should have had 4 INT's last night. He did a great job shutting down TO. It took awhile for them to cover Lee Evans sufficiently, but once they did, they were tight.

As for the Jets/Colts either is fine with me. Would be interesting to see the Jets make the SB.

My Guess is it will be SAINTs/COLTS

I read an article (need to find it) that the last few weeks of the season not only pissed the fans off, but pissed of the NFL and Advertisers. I understand wanting to sit important players for the play offs, but at the same time I really don't want to watch the back up QB and other unknowns throw a game. This can mess up a ton of games and in my opinion most times when players sit the SUCK that first palyoff game. The NFL is looking to find a way to encourage teams to keep playing ALL 16 games. They should!

I read this from a sports writer and agree with it.

"Brooking needs to relax and listen to his own words.
He's right. This is the NFL, not high school or college. The Dallas Cowboys don't get sympathy. Throwing that pass may not have been the greatest sportsmanship, but it also wasn't an affront to decency. If Brooking didn't want Minnesota to score then maybe he and his 10 teammates on the field should have done something about it.
Just because the Cowboys quit doesn't mean the Vikings needed to also."

Kinda goes along with Darth's comment too. :icon_wink:

This is a business. They can run that business how they see fit. Look at the PAtriots. They lost their best receiver in Wes Welker due to playing him when they should have been resting him and playing bench players. Win more games early. Then you won't have to worry about what other teams are doing.

As for Karma. Drew is hardy karma. HE's a beast with a pretty good football club around him. It's going to be a great game as they all should be. Except the Jets games. I find nothing enjoyable about watching a QB struggle all game and pass for 100 yards. The Chargers blew it and tanked. IT was ugly. The extra time off hurt them. That is something that should be fixed. Get rid of the bye and wildcard games. Make it so every team plays that makes the playoffs.

I was going for the Chargers. Now I just don't care really. Would love to see Farve get another ring. That would be sweet to silence all the haters and the packer fans who hate him due to a business decision their ownership made. GO BRETT GO!

Oh and if NO won I wouldn't be too unhappy either. They have been a great team the past few years and that city could use the love.

That is my problem with the Coits. His receivers made about 5-6 huge catches today and as many last week on balls that were "off the mark". Yet all we hear about is his laser like accuracy. Yeah, great end to the game. Was it Buck who said "perhaps Favre will be thinking about that throw for the rest of his life.". hehe, I hope so. Terrible idea. I'm SO glad they didn't win.

I feel bad for Farve. He played a decent game until that last pick. He was hit hard numerous times and kept getting back up. I don't think he ever ran for more yardage and by habit tried to make a throw, old habits die hard, hahaha.

Entertaining game, too many turnovers by the Vikings. OT is unfair if you think about it. A coin toss decides your entire season and your offense does not even get a chance to try and score. My boss was just telling me that he read a stat that 90% of the teams who win the coin toss end up winning the game.

Any how, hopefully the super bowl with be a close a game.

OT in football is a bit of a waste if you lose the toss. I saw a show where they discussed the idea of making it the first team to score 6 points in OT wins. So at least the team that gets the ball first has to score a touchdown instead of a field goal to win without the other team touching the ball. That seems to make the most sense to me.

I hate this about the NFL. IMO the coin toss is the most exciting part of OT and everything following is anti-climactic. The NFL adopted the 2-point conversion from college. They have more to learn from them...

Oh, and Favre is a douche. Geaux Saints!

This article (it's from last year) says it's more like 60%:

No the percentage is around 60% win if they get the ball first. I think OT should be EQUAL possessions.

The system is flawed and needs to be changed so the players can win. 60/40 is not a fair chance to give on a coin toss.

Im calling bullshit, no way its 60%. Last I heard it was like 80%. Shouldnt be so hard to figure out. Not sure why there are so many differering numbers out there. Maybe the NFL doesnt want people to know... Hmmm.

If you Google It you will get tons of answers at 60%... Even during the game yesterday they brought it up and said it was a lot less then people think...

Still a 60/40 is bad enough...

Most stats only go through 2008 season... My guess is you will see a few more charts showing the statistics in the coming week...

Yeah, 60/40 is the number I keep hearing and seeing. Actually, they said yesterday that the conference championship has gone to OT four times now and this was the first one won by the team that won the toss. :eusa_whistle:

Still not a big fan of the OT rules, though. But I don't want them going to the college version either. It's entertaining and all, but it's little more than a bastardized version of Arena Football, IMO.

The 6 point rule would be an improvement, I guess. I don't know if there's any rule change that would make everyone happy. I suppose they could play a full 15 extra minutes, but network TV would never go for that. Plus, if they end up tied after that, then what?

Hockeyfan

Is the 6 point rule mean they have to score a TD? I like that idea. Still something like the College version would be more fair. Although College starts them at the 40 or so. IN NFL they kickoff. Not sure how they would merge the 2, but they need to do something. 60% is a HUGE disparity. This is a business. The team that wins stands to win millions and millions of dollars in extra income.

In college, they start at the 25, so they're pretty much already in FG range from the start.

The idea being bounced around (I think it was on Mike and Mike on ESPN on Monday) was the first team to 6 points wins in OT, whether it be a TD or two FG's. It doesn't eliminate the possiblility that the team winning the coin toss could drive down the field and score a TD right away, but it at least takes away the possibility that the winning team only has to move the ball 30-50 yards (depending on the kickoff).

That is a horrible solution, in fact its not a solution at all!

Adopting the NCAA OT rules is the only solution. Each team has equal opportunity.

If they're going to adopt the NCAA's rules, they'd better push back that starting position to at least the 35 or 40. Starting at the 25 is stupid, IMO.

I'm sure they would. I've been to a game where we had 3 OTs. IT was AWESOME. IT was at the Horseshoe and Philip Rivers was our QB. Cotchery was a WR on that team. Fun times. We lost as Chuck Amato was an idiot and made horrible play calls. QB sneak 3 times in a row I think it was. We had a pretty good RB too. Oh well. WE should have beaten Ohio State that game.

OK I can agree with that. Although.... the 25 yard line isn't an automatic field goal in college like it is the pros. Those are some young kids. Some of those wussy little soccer types probably havent even hit puberty yet.

I agree. FG kicking is pretty sketchy in college, but for the most part in the pros anything inside of 40 is nearly automatic.

I remember that OSU/NC State game, HF. :pint:

Automatic for the best kicker in the NFL? Well that didn't go so well this year now did it. At least when it mattered.

I think that's part of the reason Brett took a chance on the pass, it would have put the football near the center of the field and make it a higher percentage field goal. I don't think he trusted his old legs to get enough yards.

McNabb traded to Redskins. Wow. Didn't see that coming. I liked Jason Campbell and thought Shanahan would keep him on. I'm also surprised the Eagles traded within their division. Wow.
