here in kentucky we have a free food program called wic(women infants and children) at the health department, it has been a real life saver for us living on one income. i was just wondering if this was a nation wide program or if there are other programs like this in other states.
the way mine works is you go to the health department and sign up and qualify based on the number in your household and your household income. pregnant women and nursing mothers and children under 5 years get food vouchers every 3 months.
the vouchers are free and are accepted in most grocery stores.
the foods you get are: milk, cheese, peanut butter, beans, eggs, juice, cereal, baby formula, infant juice, infant cereal, canned tuna, and carrotts.
i estimate the value of the vouchers i get for my 2 sons at $100 each month which helps the grocery bill alot.
