I think it is about time we started a thread for the upcoming NHL hockey season. We have to show some love to the recent influx of brothers from the Great White North who have joined our ranks. Being a NY Rangers fan I really have nothing to offer at this time. The Rangers will ,once again, be begging for a playoffs spot from what I can see. Thank you Mr. Sather. I might have an announcement in regards to that in the near future. Stay tuned! Take it away gents.

The Canes sized up so that is good. Still a descent team. Just depends on who shows up. The Leafs...well they still suck. Hopefully they get that American playa from the Bruins. That's kinda funny that. I actually want an American born player on the Leafs. LOL.

The only thing I have been watching is the Phoenix Coyotes and the sale to the Crackberry King of Canada. I really hope he gets it done and brings a team to Copps Coliseum. I still remember going there to watch Team Canada play in the Canada Cup in 1987. Good stuff. Piss on the NHL and their measly bid.

Habs win in OT. Neither team looked too good. What is up with the Caps? Did I miss something? They played the Rangers a week ago and they were not even on TV. I did get the Hokie rewind though on MASN! They do not even televise their preseason games from what I can see. Very minor league IMO. How does this help the NHL grow?

Not sure......I was pretty pissed again this year cause of that. Last year they did not show any preseason.....So, I do not understand why. In fact I did not see ANY preseason games on VS or the NHL network.......Not sure if any team televises preseason.

Ok, fellas. I need some help. I've never been into hockey, but I am a sports guy, so I watched a little of the SCF's, particularly the last minute of Game 7, and it was interesting. Tell me what a n00b needs to know about the sport, rules etc, and a little about some of the players/rivalries. I only know a few people's names, but would never even be able to tell you who the play for except for Crosby.

After the Finals, I went through a selection process and determined my team to follow will be the Predators. I know nothing about them. Any Preds fans here?

Bumped into Chuck Kaiton this morning after dropping the boys off at pre-school. Went over to grab a coffee and he was standing there with a local weather guy. LOL. I love Chuck. Stand up guy. Voice of the Hurricanes. That was a nice way to start the day.

Another great American who enhanced the game of hockey. I remember back in the day riding home after a couple of Ranger games on the LI Rail Road sitting with this Rangers icon as he shared old stories and a few beers with the fans. A real down to earth cat. He was also known to partake in a few adult beverages during a game also. I remember one p[layoff game that went into overtime and he blurted out "Call the boys from Schafer, we are going into overtime". He would be escorted out of the building in 5 minutes if he tried that today. RIP Bill Chadwick.

Hf that was stupid. Ranger defensman Dave Maloney did something similar to Ranger goalie John Davidson back in the late 70's. I remember watching it live. JD got slashed in the ankle after a goal and was taken out. I loved watching Maloney, who I hated, cry on the bench afterward.

Rangers/Sabers tonight. This will be the highlight of my pathetic Saturday! I am having a buddy down the street over who is from Buffalo. Being sensitive to his stay at home wife and what she does with her two kids all week I cleared it with her at the bus stop prior to asking him if he wanted to come over tonight for the game. Jokinen got caught out of position on a Ranger's power play and that lead to a short handed, go ahead goal for the Kings. Welcome to the Rangers Mr. Jokinen. On the plus side, Prust dished out a nasty hit early that was ruled a boarding but even the Kings announcers were not that sure. I do respect you honest opinion KG. I must admit that when Ovie scored the 4th goal with a few seconds left in the 2nd I knew the game was far from over. What an effort. Check ESPN if you missed it. Poti scoring the tying goal then drawing the penalty for the go ahead while driving to the net really hurt to watch. Good teams like the Caps find ways to win when they do not play their best, especially during long winning streaks. Hopefully the Olympic break will cool them off. Watch out for the DEVILS! Last night's Ranger Pens game was a true first for me. They aired it on Versus who has as good HD quality as anyone. But even better was that they used the Ranger announcers feed for the game. In between periods they went back the Versus studio but at least I got the best game combo.

Torts is Hockeys version of Larry Bowa. He is probably a horrible poker player. I like it though. I can not remember any coach in any sport getting caught flipping F Bombs on the bench. And he has a lot of reasons to throw them. Tough night for the Rangers losing 2-0 with their newly acquired back up goalie in nets. Gave up a goal on a 5 on 3 and only one other one. Sure you know why. Cause he's a "star". They can't throw him out. They need him on TV and in the game. He should surely be out. HE has a dirty reputation. Those hits from behind to me are even worse. I've seen some horrible injuries from those. These guys may have gotten lucky to walk away. Cookes was a shot to the head. That's all bad. Neither of them the guy saw it coming or expected it. Briere was skating off to change lines. BAM!

I love the rough and tumble NHL. Just not the cheap crap. Clean hits are great. Fights are even better. If MMA is the big thing in the US, then why can't hockey have some toughness to it. Rangers beat the Flyers yesterday 3-1. As usual the Flyboys get chippy at the end to the point were their Captain Mike Richards. skates by 21 rear old Brandon Dubinsky and fakes a hit on him. Dabinsky doesn't flinch. These two have a history. Finally after Richards grabs Dubinsky's jersey sans glove and gats a the first punch in Dubinsky pounds him into the ice where Richards is forced into "Turtle position". These teams play 2 more times I believe with a lot on the line for the Rangers. The best replay is at the 50 second mark. Oh, and Avery scored 2 goals which drove the Flyers nuts.

Rough night for NY Rangers. Lose to the Habs 3-1. Henry gives up 2 goals or less and yet again (disregarding the open netter) and gets the loss to add to his leagues leading loss total. He might ask for a trade next year. Hopefully his love of NYC will keep him happy. At least the Flyers lost in a shoot out. Any little help is needed by the Rangers.
