I hope to buy a new laptop today. This one is tapped out of memory, the power cord is frayed and barely works, its time.

I know little-to-nothing about computers. What is the bare minimum I should be looking at? I really dont want to spend more than $600.

Under $500 and a great machine.

I never heard of that brand until I checked out some ads this morning! Shows you how much I know.

Check out costco or Sam's Club for deals.

Sent from my new HP laptop purchased at Costco. 16 inch screen. Paid about $525 for it.

Best Buy had a good solution for me, but are out of stock of them. Seems like its a bad time to buy. If i can wait a couple more weeks, Windows 7 will be standard fare.

Most of them will come with a free upgrade to windows 7, but you have to pay like $10 shipping for the disk.

My wife got it early through her college. It's pretty slick actually.

Should I buy now and maybe save a few bucks on a current model, and download Windows 7 myself? Or wait 10 days for Windows 7 and be at the mercy of new models and pricing?

You might buy now and blow off windows 7. Save a few bucks. I plan to order my free disk but I am not sure I will load it. Probably lead to problems and my laptop runs fine for what I need. Usually these "upgrades" are just ways for the software companies to sell you more crap or ram more ads down you throat.

Here (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9377104&type=product&id=1218094855118) is what Im looking at. Its low in stock, I might have to go a little ways to get one. Thoughts on it?

Cubby, that looks exactly like mine. I am not sure if all of the guts are the same. I have the HP G60. A feature that I see it has that people who have seen mine and really like is the separate number keypad on the right side of the keyboard. Go for it!!

the numbers are on the side make for a big laptop. Ill go to my 3rd Best Buy tomorrow. This one is supposed to have them in stock. I will probably pull the trigger and worry about the Windows 7 later, if not at all. Thanks.
