We have six rabbits. Three get smoked and returned to the guys who grew and slaughtered them. We'll smoke one of ours just to see what it tastes like. the other two, I'm not sure about. I was thinking that if the smoked rabbit isn't our style, I may grind them for meat sticks. But maybe there's a no fail way to cook a rabbit that appeals to a wife and toddler. They brined them at the farm.

Braise them in a stew like a Pot Roast.

funny you should mention this. Leah and I are off in a minute to see some friends whose pet rabbits just had a litter of babies.
She posted a picture on facebook of them and I commented that they look delicious. Maybe I can convince her to fatten some up for me!

One thing about rabbits, as pets, even for grow-eat purposes.
Allergies to pets are amplified around rabbits. I'm speaking from personal experience. If your kids are allergic around cats, then rabbits are worse yet.
Aside from that, we've looked at rabbits for meat, and it is not cost effective.

These were free and dressed.

Never had rabbit. Probably never will. And I've been waiting to use this, so now is as good a time as any . . .

I don't know guys. I prefer road kill as it saves the whole slaughtering thing and makes it that much faster for getting supper on the table. :icon_lol:
That's one advantage to the Great GOLD North, when it's -30 out, you don't have to worry about bugs or the meat starting to go bad while it sits on the edge of the road. I love winter for that reason alone.

Lots of little bones in rabbit, be careful with the toddler.

Good to know. Sausage seems like the way to go. I think my wife thinks that's the best route for her, too.

Bunnies in the smoker! Pork chops join them in an hour for dinner.

I recall, my brothers bringing game home, and it was the hearts and thighs that were the best, cooking in the iron skillet with onoins and taters.

I'm having a hard time thinking about eating them. It's not the cute factor. They just look like big rats or cats laying there. They picked up a lot of smoke, especially in the extremities. I guess I just don't know where to start with them. The three that are going back to the farm are going to be put in vacuum bags and frozen since the guys can't make it here tonight. I think our's may get the same treatment.
