Well I don't know about anyone else but I am a huge college football fan. I went to a small school so I don't have a link to any major school but I do root for Virginia Tech. With August almost here and the Conferences beginning to blow up what are anyone else's thoughts?
I'll start... It looks like we will have 4-5 super conferences within a few years which will create a pseudo playoff system. I think that the SEC will gobble up the Florida schools, the ACC will grab the Big East school, Notre Dame will finally join the Big Ten, and the Mountain West will take the remaining Big 12 schools that don't make the Pac-10 cut.
That being said I am counting the days until kick-off and watching as much football on saturday as I can.

Love college ball. Love it love it love it. (NFL sucks). However, as these guys will attest, Im not much of an armchair quarterback and sports chatter'r. I just watch my teams and be on my way.
But rest assured Im checking the scores, the polls, and watching my share of games on Saturdays in the fall.

Well, the SECs not taking the FL schools. UofF uses the SEC as a recruiting tool. They're putting pressure on to keep the others out. Since the SEC doesn't need to expand, they're in a good position to keep it as it is.
Big Ten gets Nebraska and Missouri now, Notre Dame after or just before their TV contract expires, and two more in the next three to five years.
Right now it looks like Kansas may be in luck. If Baylor doesn't go to the PAC-10, the rest of the TX schools may stay in the Big 12. I think that's enough to keep it together for a little bit. UT has said they'd rather stay and the Baylor guys seem to have some power.
I just want to see the Big Ten take some schools with soccer programs. No chance they'll extend an offer to Akron, though. ND has a respectable program, though.

Apparently the toilet bowl. (http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?columnist=forde_pat&id=5273422)

It's been interrupting World Cup coverage for the last 24 hours. That and Izzo moving to coach the Cavs. Well, and this thing with the Football conferences.

I guess you don't get sarcasm. Unless you are using it now too. LOL. I watch ESPN EVERY day. So I know what's going on pretty well. :chugchug:

I'm a massive UGA fan. Actually I much prefer college to the pros. There are rumors circulating that once all the domino's fall, the SEC is going to extend offers to Texas A&M as well as Va Tech. The SEC is already difficult enough so I'm not really into the whole expansion idea.

My thoughts are that I'm increasingly thinking that rooting for college sports (the major ones, anyway) is like rooting for a pre-Curt Flood baseball system. These guys are essentially earning sub-minimum wage, and that's if they have a scholarship, while reaping billions for their institutions. Of course, one can talk about the "love of the game" and such, but the recent realignments make it clear that those at the top are doing it for anything but love. It's a huge business, no different from the NFL, except that those guys actually get paid.
