Hey guys -
I was working on a project for the fire department on my laptop last night and put it down to take a leak and came back to this message coming up over and over again.
Any idea what it means?
Thanks

Your likely having hard drive issues. Your drive might be fried.

shit...I knew I should have saved the project to my flash drive! :twak:
is it an expensive procedure? IT was a free laptop, so it probably is worth it, but I just can't lay out a large sum of money on this right now.

I have never seen an error message with a ghost image of some ugly guy on the screen. Creepy. Looks all bad. How old is that thing?

I googled "pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable error" and it came up with a range of possible causes, the worst being a screwed hard drive.
Quite a few people had a loose connection to their hard drive inside the laptop.
Others were trying to boot from a network but it won't be that in your case.
First, I'd smack it. If that doesn't work I'd pop it open and check the connections but I don't know how old your laptop is, that may void the warranty.
EDIT: Wow those other guys are fast. If it was free I assume no warranty. So beat on it and then open it up.

That's what she said. :icon_lol:
Okay, will do.
So beat on it and then open it up.

Looks like some kind of stalker virus. Make sure to keep your clothes on; that guy may be taking pictures of you!
Being an older laptop, you might want to pop it open and clean it out, check the connections, etc. You can get a new hard drive, but you may need an operating system. You can get a variety of Linux, such as Ubuntu, etc., for free. Some of them are similar in functionality to a Windows interface.

Thanks guys. The son of a friend of ours went to computer school and is a full-on PC geek...so I'll give it to him and let him have his way with it. I trust the kid, he'll do right by me.

Then he's prolly like me and has a large bin of spare parts from old systems and can just build you a new one :icon_razz:
