I haven't paid it much mind but I was a little bummed to see that the Pens released Guerin. I hear he's trying out with the Flyers - whom I have hated since Eric Lindros was on the team.

Boo. Don't be a hater to my homeboy. Well 10 minutes from where I was born. Love me some Lindros.

I'm borderline exited. Sure it's hockey, but both teams I follow are sucky. The Canes could do something. Anything can happen if you make the playoffs. We have another Staal. Cool.

Actually I like Stevens. He's a big boy and he was pretty clean, but hits like a freight train.

He's trash! Hate him. Cheap as well.

Well if you want to play, then step up. Me, a local friend and Darth play pretty near every Friday to the wee hours and have a great time. Last weekend we were all kicking butt. If you are "ready" for the big time, we would love to have ya. Actually we would take you anyways. Even with a loose wheel we can usually get'r done. LOL. Although last time we played with you we didn't know you were in the game. You were quite and didn't get any kills. :icon_razz: :eusa_whistle: That used to be Darth, aside from the quite thing. :icon_lol:

I get on at 8pm EST. This Friday is a date night. We got a sitter and are going out somewhere. Hopefully really nice.

Warm up? Come on man. We are all adults. Well you are at least. We won't bite. We are all good guys and just enjoy playing. Don't be bashful. Just think of us as real people that you've gamed with for years. It's all good. Don't worry either as Darth will carry most every conversation. You'll hear him from across the house too. The boy is LOUD! LOL.

Don't let our forum persona scare you off. Darth comes off as a bit of a douche on here, but he's a good guy on XBOX. :icon_razz: As for me I'm the same cocky good guy, but I do back it up with K/D ratios that are typically pretty good. And if they are not I usually still get alot of kills. :assault: Either way I have fun. And that's what matters.

At least you admit Lemieux is trash. I bet you liked Kaspiritus (sp?) too eh. I know MarkB wishes he had a love child by him. Personally I hate him.

Funny how the "GREATEST" moment in US sports history was the 1980 win over Russia. Wasn't that hockey you toolbag. Oh and Marty won 2 of them babies and a few silvers, but we don't count those. Regardless, this is about Brodeur. Getting pulled is part of the game. He's had injury and hey...he's getting old. The body just can't perform as it did years ago. Ask Hasek.

Exactly my point! We sent a bunch of college kids to play against the greatest hockey team in the World at the time. That was the only effort the country would put into it an we succeeded in winning. Imagine if the country really cared? I truly think the country might be getting behind International hockey a bit more these days. We shall see.

Thank God he looks like his mother. When Gretzky was playing for the Rangers my cousin played against Gretzky's kids team at the Pier in NY. They were about 14-15 y/o I would guess. My Uncle new little Gretzky was not getting his Dad's exposure to pee wee hockey when he saw actor Gregory Heinze's (sp?) kid on the same team.

Canada couldn't have given two shits about the Olympics back then either. It wasn't important. We sent a bunch of scrubs too. The Russian team was pretty good though. All I was saying is that the US's biggest sport moment was HOCKEY. Not baseball or football or Canada's sport...basketball. It was hockey. Can't be argued. You should be proud. Don't hide. Own it.

The the other guy stepped in, but did you see the face on the first guy? It was awesome. Almost like the pic of those two guys holding each other behind the boards of the Philly game. The one that was done like a mastercard commercial. It was on that same level. Classic.

The guy assaults a fan, like it or not that is what it is, and you are OK with that? The fan can clap and say anything he wants. The players can not touch them. He will be suspended. And with all the popping off you do about Sean Avery! You should be ashamed.

No fans or people in general can't say anything they want. That is incorrect. Should he have grabbed him? No. Did he hurt the little muffin? No. Assault? I did much worse than that last night to a 6'3 240 lb guy. He whined that I punched him. It was more of a shove to the face. I did tell him that had I punched him he'd have been on the ground in a heap..... He was shoving a teammate and was going to answer to me.

LOL. It was funny actually. We were down 6-1 after the 2nd period and these idiots were mocking and showboating. Basically being @holes. So then it starts. We came back to win 7-6 in regulation. They didn't say a world in line to shake hands. :eusa_whistle: It was pretty funny. Even during the 2nd intermission our goalie was out shouting at them and the other goalie for the in your face cheering they did on the 6th goal. No class in these punks. Needless to say we figured we were done. We had lost a guy due to him getting 3 penalties (it's a rule in the league apparently). We were in the box I don't know how many times. Anyways, if you stick to your guns and put in the effort, anything is possible.

Here is a quote from a teammate about the game
"Craziest game of my time back. Started with 6 skaters, then lost ### early because he felt the need to bust his stick over the boards after penalty. We went down 6-1 at the end of the second period. The other team and goalie were mocking us and celebrating like they won the f'n stanley cup. $%^ went ballistic between periods, and with just 5 skaters we came back to win 7-6. Needless to say, they didn't talk to much smack that third period.

Great win boys!"

Sounds like a money seeking little Bi@tch if you ask me. If that's you, then so be it. Sure isn't me. I'd be embarrassed to know him or to be his parent. The player should only get 2 or 3 games. He didn't do anything, but you can't grab a fan. I get that. Much worse has happened in the past. Regardless....What was said? It matters. If that kid told him he would rape his wife and kids then he's surely allowed to attack him in the stands. If he uttered a death threat, he can attack. Heck yeah. If it was just innocent clapping, then that is a different story. I'd like to know the real story.

For him to sue over that is just plain sad. What is wrong with this Country? People sue over anything and nothing. People sue over having their plans to rob someone foiled. That is just wrong. I think if this guy knew he was going to get sued he would at least have punched him.

What a pansy.

I thought it was the other way around. The kid was trying to get avery to fight and he kept saying wait because he didn't want to at that time. You are right. I wrote it wrong. It's all in the link I posted. To me that is classless. If you want to fight. Be a man and fight. Don't back down then blindside like that. Horrible. I have 0 respect for him. Actually negative respect, as zero respect is too much for him.

It's all because hockey today is pansy crap. In the old days Avery couldn't do what he does as he'd have to pay the price. Now they have to be gentle and try and agree to fight as to not get an instigator. Should be a good one when the Oilers play the gutless Rangers next time. Although Betman will surely warn both teams.

It's a shame he's such an ass because he is actually a decent player. Every team has an agitator that get's under people's skin. I call Bullshit. The guy on the Oilers was looking at Avery when he got his clock cleaned after getting checked cleanly. I just saw the clip for the first time after getting home. NOT NEARLY as bad as it was made out to be. You all make like he was skating away with his back to him. C'mon. Get over it fellas. Avery takes more shit every night than he dishes out on average. That kid asked for a fight and he got one. I think the score had a lot to do with how all this went down.

BTW, on the bottom of that story there is a link to the "NHL Police Blotter" in blue type I believe. Some very interesting stuff on there. Not a lot of flattering stuff for the NHL that likes it's squeaky clean image. Some of it is very sad too.

"I want to apologize to my family, my friends, our fans and the entire Flames family for what took place this past Wednesday night," the Flame said.

NOT! Rangers shutout the Craps 7-nil. Caps tried everything including the not so great 8 picking ,and losing, a fight with the Ranger' Dubinsky. Avery took out a guy who tried to fight him late as well. Caps are at an all time low. With the talent they have they sure seem to be in panic mode. ^ losses in a row for the Caps.

I think it is time for the NHL to seriously consider a contraction of the number of teams in the NHL or at least moving teams to better locations. I hope this did not tie up the usual ATL gridlock even more. This is beyond lame.

Hockey is a fun sport to see in person but very expensive for most. The caps have a good draw but mostly the yuppie rich crowd attends. I have a better seat right in front of my HD TV and sipping scotch for what it costs and the hassle of going to a game. And Atlanta is a booming town in a good economy but now not so much.

Caps still on the rag but did play with a bit more enthusiasm last-night though.

I caught a bit of it while watching the Rangers play. I liked to call it the "Crosby Classic" last night. The guys in the booth sure seemed to feel that way. I am still not a big fan of the whole idea. I did think the game looked better on TV at night. I am not sure the goalies felt the same way though. I am also not sure it it was wise of the NHL to give away a Honda after the game in Steeltown USA.

I enjoyed watching it. Wasn't glued to the TV, but caught a fair share. Wish is was played in the North though. These Southern climate games kill me. Rain? Really? This is shinny. Have some snow in the air. Come on. Crosby is amazing. Love watching him.

Overall I'm glad they made this an annual thing. I love it. Especially when it's played in the cold. Did you see those pansy assed Caps players with their hand warmers? Come on. It was raining out. How cold can it be? Remember the game they played in -20? Those were men.

Kwak
01-02-2011, 08:44 PM
LOL - yeah I saw those handwarmers. It was 52 at the time. You may call Pittsburgh a southern region but as far as I'm concerned any hockey played where it doesn't get below freezing should be played on roller skates anyway. DC is tenacious for being S-O-F-T when the weather's less than ideal.

They shoulda pushed the Classic back to tonight. It was in the 30s today and is gonna be in the 20s tonight. Word is that they were worried about conflicting with the Steelers game but that was up in Cleveland and they shellacked the Brownies. I was down town today near Heinz Field and it was like any other Sunday after football season : DEAD.

Mark B.

Thread is dead? Must be football playoffs. Rangers almost put the icing on a great sports night for me in almost coming back from 3-0 against the Flyers. They just had 3 tough games in a row with beating the Canucks 1-0, then losing 3-2 against the Habs on HNIC then the Flyers last night. Could have won all three. Would that be "Sid the Invalid" you are talking about? I have been waiting to use that line a few days now. Keep in mind that once a player in any sport gets a concussion they seem to be very susceptible to them in the future. E. Malkin is going to be a a long time.

That was a pretty vicious hit he took. Cheap shot really as it wasn't much of a hit. There is no place in hockey for that. That guy should have his head knocked like McSorely did on Donald years back. That would solve the cheap crap. People need to know that there are consequences to their actions.

He had a concussion. The brain needs time to heal property. When you are the face of the franchaise and the NHL and Canada you need to make sure you are ready and healthy before returning. Why is that hard to understand. He is a multi-million dollar man and IS the Penguins guy. Why put him in now if he's not 100%. That's just stupid. They aren't the Flyers.

They looked quite hapless last night losing 2-0 to the Sharks. Coach Boudro's chariot might be turning back into a pumpkin at midnight. He sure does make his share of local TV commercials I tell you. He looks lost right now.

Rangers keep losing 1 goal games but nobody plays harder than they do. No pure goal scorers makes them beg for every goal with opposing goalies standing on their heads just about every night against them, Detroit being the latest team to do so Monday night. On the playoff cusp once again.

I did watch all the clips and the only really inexcusable one is the last and a few years ago at that when he was a rookie I believe. He has stated many times and even apologized to a few of the recipients on his poor decisions. He has done his suspensions and done his time so to speak and is a better hockey player for it. He is a much more respected player then that goon Cook who has not learned from his mistakes. Ovie is a Captain and acts like it with his love and respect for the game and his fellow NHL players.

So who do you like? And which team do you route for? :chugchug:

Cooke got 4 games. Malkin is done for the season. Crosby may be, but it's not known yet.

Malkin is getting the MCL/ACL operated on and the rehab is slated to take 6 months. According to the local sports radio channel Cooke is starting to wear out his welcome with Pens fans. Last night's incident couldn't have come at a worse time. Half of the W-B/Scranton Baby Pens must have been called up so far.

As for the commentary I don't get it. On one hand you condemn these hard hits that get 5 minute majors, ejections and multi-game suspensions yet OTOH you condemn those who have poor acting skills and get somebody else put in the box for 2 minutes? Which is worse?

Yes, as I said. Malkin is done for the season. 6 months = done for the season.

I condemn cheap hits that put players out of hockey. Not sure what you mean as far as on the other hand as that would infer I like players getting hurt and enjoy those types of hits in hockey. That makes no sense. As far as diving, yes I hate it. It's European. Not my thing. What is worse? That is a stupid question. A dive gets a 2 minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and the other player usually gets called for a hook or trip or whatever (that always bothers me). In the other cases people have their necks broken, legs broken, get concussions and many other injuries. Are you really are asking what is worse? Go back to watching ballet. Seriously. Hockey is for men.

I remember one of my old favorites, Bill Barber of the Flyers, being one of the best divers around. Head jerk and a splash and the refs fell for it most of the time. That was not why he was one of my favorites though. Good gritty player back in the day as was most of the team under Freddy "the Fog" Shero.

Jeez, as my FIL says sometime during that fight a hockey game broke out. HF you may like fighting but I think it shows poor sportsmanship, stupidity and shortsightedness. I'm not happy about losing another forward to a concussion either.

Fighting is within the rules of hockey. It's been that way forever. That is hockey. So it's not poor sportsmanship. High sticking someones eye our or kicking a guy with your skate is poor sportsmanship. Oftentimes the fights are agreed to. How unsporting is that? Stupidity? I think hockey without fighting is stupidity. Shortsightedness? I don't even know what to say to that. :icon_lol: That's it I guess.

Steel-town USA is getting a bit rusty with all the salty tears on that hockey team. First Sid and now Mario. Give it a rest. Mario has bigger problems. His team just got bitch slapped both in score and in fights by a minor league team. I could just envision Sid the Invalid at home watching in the fetal position rocking back and forth. The announcers where horrible. Only pointing out bad stuff the Icelanders were doing. The biggest shit hole rink in the league deserved a game like this. I would also add that there should be no music blaring during fights in the NHL. It just gives the impression of trying to flame the fire IMO. Kinda WWF. I also have no idea where the Islanders will come up with the money for the 100K fine they have to pay the league. They will probably raise the price to park at the rink AGAIN and still not offer any police protection outside the rink as usual. Mind blowing.

Sorry aboot the misquote but I think it meant the same exact thing. I think even you knew that. Anyway, for a game to be riddled with fights and cheap shots for that long is ridiculous IMO. It had all the charm of a NYC Firefighters vs. NYC Policeman hockey game. I love a good fight rest assured but that was over the top by a mile. I'm indifferent to Melrose, but happen to agree with him. I am often tired of the NHL trying to cater to the fringe fans who bitch about fighting in hockey. If you don't like it fine, don't watch and I hope they stop trying to sanitize the game too much. I saw it last night on youtube though. He didn't get a suspension. Guess they didn't have a good camera view to impose the suspension. Many folks believed before the ruling that no way would they suspend their precious Bruin player.

From the clips I saw it looked intentional. He shoved him into the partition. Obviously the partition did the damage. That's why he threw him into it. I guess in talking to the NHL he convinced them otherwise. His rep of being clean for the most part likely helped his case.

That was every bit as bad as Bertuzzi's hit. Why the hate? I know you like to protect the cheap goons. Still, I see no reason to be a hater. The police were called in with the Bertuzzi one and the Mc Sorely one too. Both of which were not that bad.

I ain't hatin. C'mon!

This is way out of hand. This is the best sport around and it is a very exciting end to the season. This sad incident should not be muddying the waters at this time. Next thing they will suggest is putting up glass all the way around the rink and make players wait for a stoppage of play to change to make it safer.

I'm getting really anxious about Sid ever coming back this year - or ever. That being said, looks like the Pens are still in it. I guess they may actually be a good hockey team and not just riding on their "stars" coat tails, d'ya think?

They have a star goalie. Still think they are riding his coattails.

The Devils are 20-4 since Jan.8 ....i think time is going to run out on them though...a little too late for the push.....maybe just maybe though...
i still don't like the point system however...why get a point for OTL:bored:...they have more wins than 3 teams ahead of them in points....O'well

Guess who is already home from the hospital after being on death's door a few days ago? He was walking around the hospital a couple of days ago and even had time, and the energy (which is the tougher to do with a concussion. I know, I had a pretty bad one years ago) to open a friggen twitter account just last night. Hopefully he was not discharged due to socialized medicine budgetary rules. I wish my fellow American, and CT resident, a full and speedy recovery.

Wow. You just can't get over how everyone out there agrees with me. LOL. It's okay Mark. You'll get on board some day. Even Via Rail has piled on the NHL. LOL.

You should be more concerned with your little Bi@tch Ranger boys holding onto that 8th and final playoff position and not whether or not an American player is opening a twitter account having potentially played his last NHL game at a very early age. Respect does not seem to come with the Ranger membership.

I was going to post a week ago that either me, you or Don will probably not be happy at the end of the season.

And please stop bending my comments out of shape. Nobody like to see a player get hurt. All I know is that the NHL front office and from what Bettman said, all the front offices of teams aside those involved, agree with me as well.

That's not how I've heard it. Many many many owners want this fixed.

I was sad to hear the news. Rick Jeanneret did a nice tribute to him before the game. Sucks that the French Connection getting together for the new owners introduction was the last time those guys will all be in a room together. :chugchug:

So Matt Cooke got suspended and nobody's jumping for joy?

Personally I think it's deserved. Even Mr. Cooke is starting to smell the coffee and told the big wigs in Toronto that he needs to change.

Word is Mario is pissed at him but given the injuries the Penguins need him. It won't be until after the 2nd round of the playoffs - that is if the Pens can progress that far. As it stands they're going to have to work hard to maintain 4th place and home ice for the 1st round.

I saw that. The Caps have every right to rest their stud, but to call it an injury is only a way to fill his spot on the bench and perhaps to appease the fans who might have bought a ticket at home or away to see him play. The Caps are in put up or shut up mode this playoff season. They can't afford to have the "not so great, eight" tired.

Howe played into his 50s. :icon_wink:

He isn't the same as he was. He used to be Godlike. Not he's just fantastic. Many many players play at a high level into their 40s nowadays. I like him cause he's Canadian and has won Gold for us. It's all about the Gold baby.

While I've never played goal, I'd have to imagine it's a lot harder for a goalie as they get up there in years, just how much more flexible they need to be. Still though I have to imagine he's a got a few more years in him and woukdnt want to go out on such a low note. Sure the Devils have an amazing second half of the year record, and I think he'd like to see if they can stretch it in to next season and bring Jersey back to being a top tier team... Of course it was more fun to watch them languish as I have several friends who are Devil's fans.

Just noticed your location, did you always live in Ithaca? I'm not too far from you.

I bought 200 level tickets, just 2 for me and my oldest son. I figure I should spend the extra cash and get good seats since I usually only go to one game a year. My son's not a huge Sabres fan, yet, hopefully he'll enjoy the sport as much as I do.

I guess now the Boston Bruin fans see how silly they looked when they vilified Ulf Samuelson for a hit on their fan favorite Cam Neely that shorted his career.

I've lived in Ithaca off and on for a long while now. Got in to the Sabres when I went to college in Niagara Falls. It's not a bad town but now and then I used to get itchy and move for a few years. Last time I came back somehow i ended up getting married and having a kid. Life is crazy!

Both times I tried to spring for better seats in the past I always got tickets too late and we couldn't get enough of them together. But hey at least I can say for certain even the seat in the corner against to concrete provides a very clear view of the entire ice surface!
