So, kind of like it is now, huh? :icon_wink:

I think this wide-open season is fun. There are still a lot of teams in the hunt, with some separating from the rest of the pack. This time of year is always interesting, trying to imagine who the champ will be -- the Pats or Saints again? The Eagles finally? The Rams? (okay, just joking...I'm just mad b/c right now they'd keep the Packers out, even with only a .500 record). :icon_razz:

I don't see things moving too much. The Jets, Pats, Steelers, and Falcons can all clinch spots this weekend. One thing's for sure, there are going to be some great match-ups in the next few weeks - Giants/Eagles, Eagles/Cowboys, Pack/Bears, Saints/Ravens....

The Falcons have the easiest schedule remaining w/two games vs. the Panthers. Everyone else has some tough games coming up.

Here's hoping the Pats, Vikes, and Jets all beat up on the Bears. :twak:

I generally just stick to watching the Steelers, but I have a bad feeling about all the injuries. I don't think we're gonna go far though because the league has obviously painted a target on Pittsburgh. Last week they let the ex-Brownies get away with too much IMO. I'm looking forward to a rematch in Pittsburgh for some payback. We just have toughen up against the Bungles and the junior Brownies first.

I agree with the obvious "no calls" total BS,Ben probably deserved that broken nose though:icon_lol:...i thought Miller was paralyzed  Brutal hit....big deal ,he got fined, didn't help in the game....Harrison will probably get fined for something he said this week.....The O line is in bad shape for sure, but i think the D will ride em through the playoffs...As long as we don't play dink and dunk Brady ....Hopefully a WC can knock them out and the Steelers can host the Championship game......we'll see,a lot of football left ,thats for sure...3 game home stand coming up,,,should help

Tonight's game could be good. If Dallas shows up like they have been lately, it could make for an enjoyable game to watch.

The Pats game was entertaining. Always enjoy watching Brady. Their D stepped up...AGAIN.

For me having Rodgers go down with another concussion is pretty much ending my fantasy football dominance. It eliminates 2 of my best players. Rodgers and Jennings. Oh well. You never know. Not sure when playoffs start, but that is another thing that ruins FF. Teams rest players after 1 quarter or a half. It's just not right.

Die hard jets fan here, as you know...but you see that 'tripping' on the sideline?

I don't know what the player was doing that far out of bounds, and it looked like there was BARELY any contact, but that was a classless move by the coach. He deserved to have his knee blown out by the momentum of the player.

I've seen all reactions calling the whole organization classless thugs, which is unfortunate. That guys deserves to be fired for intentionally trying to hurt someone.

Hockeyfan
12-13-2010, 02:14 PM
Yeah, that was beyond bad. You are an assistant! You don't matter. Stay out of the play and don't trip a player you moron. It's not allowed for other players and certainly not by an assistant on the sideline. He's going to be made an example of and face a nice fine. Have fun with that. If he keeps his job he's lucky. That said, I laughed in astonishment when I saw it yesterday. Lol. F'in Jets.

Expected. Cutler, on the other hand, played the whole game and only got me 0.18 :icon_mad:

Yeah, with so many other injuries this year for GB, Rodgers' absence made the whole thing clear for anyone who didn't already see it: he's been carrying that team. No run game whatsoever. 66 yards and 25 of those were from Rodgers. Doesn't look good with the Saints and Giants still playing well. GB's only best hope is that the Bears falter.

What's that? GB visits Foxboro next week? That's scary.

That won't be an upset. In the last 2 weeks anything can happen. People are sat after a quarter of play. Teams that have clinched will lose and not care less. If you have a pick league, go with the Dog. You'll be better than 50% for sure.

Also for my team my starting QB is out and his receiver will now do squat. That's not an upset. Just bad luck on my behalf.

Pats fans will take the choking Chargers any day. The Ravens are most feared, followed closely by the Steelers.

Still, the Chargers could win out (easily against SF, CIN, BUF) and still not get in. The Chiefs also face sub-.500 opponents too, and if Cassel is back, they'll be favored all the way.

Seattle gets into the playoffs with a LOSING RECORD! First team to make it with a sub .500 record. (3 teams made it at 8-8)

Last nights game Seahawks/Rams was their playoff game. New Orleans with a 11-5 record has to go to Seattle for their Wildcard Game!

There have been times when better teams were left out of the playoffs, but this is the oddest! New York Giants and Tampa Bay Bucs both have a 10-6 record and are staying home...

Just another year in the NFL!

Steelers wouldn't face the Pats until the Championship game. Pats as #1 seed get the highest seed remaining after the first week of playoff games.

Per Darth's comment, I can't fricking believe that the Seahawks make the playoffs at 7-9... sucks to be a Giants or Bucs fan looking at Seattle not only making the playoffs, but hosting a playoff game!

I don't have a problem with the Seabirds getting in. They topped their division, which is all they need to do. No one's had a losing record, but there have been bad teams making the playoffs before.

The Pack won't make it very far without a ground game -- I'm surprised and happy they made it at all. Hopefully they can take advantage of a sputtering Eagles team next week and then do well in Atlanta, figuring the Saints will beat Seattle and go to Chicago. I don't see them beating the Falcons, but hope they keep it close.

It's also an interesting quirk that the only team to go 6-0 in their division, the Raiders, did not get in. Or even have a winning record.

DarthDaddy

I don't have a problem so much with the losing record since it is extremely rare. What I find a little tough is that four teams that have better records have away games.

Packers have the same record as the Eagles, yet they beat them in the regular season

New Orleans has a better record than Seattle

NY Jets at Indy

Ravens at KC...

Granted this entire year is an odd year and rare. It may be more important as the league continues to have more parity.

Exactly. Who would have guessed the Seahawks would be beating the Saints 31-20? I give them credit after dealing with all the disrespect this week. A 7-9 team could win the SB.

If this keeps up Drew Brees will be crying for real after this game unlike his post Super Bowl act of last year.

Jets have a very tough game coming up against the Colts. If they pull it off it will be that much sweeter I guess.

FRIGGEN BUMP!!

Best part was I was at a party with a bunch of Manning fans. Only guy rooting for the J-E-T-S! They were not even INDY fans. The guy gets way too much credit for Indy's success IMO. Be sure to request a wake up call Indianapolis for the car race.

He's earned it. And he was much sharper than the other QB tonight. Their D let the team down, along with less than 100 yards rushing. And oh, when Manning was on the sidelines upset that the Colts called an unnecessary TO which allowed their young QB to confer instead of having to improvise, thus resulting in 15 more yards? He was right.

I didn't see much of the other game, but that 67 yard run was amazing. The Keystone Cops on the NO defense.

Manning is nothing without Dungy. He was the puppetmaster.

That is my point, when they win it is all Peyton, when they lose it is somebody else's fault. Indy is a fine team.

I would love to see what Manning would be like if he did not play in a vacuum for most of his games like Brady.

Agree. They also made Chicago sweat a bit recently also. Road games too. I think Sanchez threw better in the bitter cold against Chicago than he did last week. Hope he can do the same next week. There will be no shame in losing to the Pats right now. I just hope that they do not play the way they did the last time they played them.

Love the 2nd Lynch video with the sound effects. Ah, the memories.

Interesting comparison on sports radio this morning:

NE
Brady, 6th round
Welker, undrafted
Green-Ellis, undrafted
Woodhead, undrafted

NYJ
Sanchez, 1st round
Edwards, 1st round
Holmes, 1st round
Revis, 1st round

Wow. I'm pretty neutral on both teams, and am just trying to enjoy watching the Bellicheck/Brady era, one of the most impressive of all time.

Another insight: Brady might be great b/c of Bellicheck, but every great QB has had a great coach. Staubach/Landry, Montana/Walsh, Marino/Shula...

Jets-Pats should be a pretty good game, I don't expect the Jets to be as flat as they were last time. Hoping for a NE win, but would not be shocked if Jets move on. Ryan strikes me as a good post-season coach.

Read an interesting stat that 37 of 53 players on Pats roster have not won a playoff game.

Anyway, looking forward to all the games this weekend, including the Ravens-Steelers, should be a good one.

It most definitely would not be the same. Playoff football is better to watch in real time and I think it takes a little bit away from the excitement by watching a recording. I actually DVR games I am watching in case daddy duties interrupt and also because I am a geek that will go back and re-watch a game to focus on other areas that I don't while watching the game live.

Of course I have re-watched last weeks game yet. It was painful enough watching it in the bitter cold. :icon_mad: I'm not ready to put myself through that again yet.

Wait. How old is your little guy again? It might be easier to maybe shorten the ritual and move it up a little earlier.

He's 8 months old, bed time ritual starts around 5:15 pm and lasts about 45 minutes - so "we" will watch the first quarter, which really means he will bang around his toys and crawl around the living room, while I catch glances of the Ravens going up 14-0, while trying to keep him from terrorizing the dogs or pulling on electrical cords. (LOL, just kidding about that score, could be only 10-0, :icon_razz:)

Last week was the same deal since wife was also out all day Saturday - so I had the Seahawks/Saints game on while we played, then after bed time I was able to catch the end of that game and all of the Colts-Jets (which by the way, seemed like one of the quickest NFL games ever...)

But I do wish the prime time game was the Steelers/Ravens, only cause I am an AFC kind of guy... not to say that the Atlanta-Pack game won't also be good. Heck, all the games should be good.

Cant tell if the jets bench is on the left or the right there, but if it's on the right, then that video was taken from the section where my season tickets were in the old stadium. We were 4th row in the mezzanine, lookin' straight through those goalposts. Great seats, especially when the action was down on our end of the field.

Perfect location for our row too..the upper tier sheilded us from the rain..we were actually the first row that stayed dry from the cover. The first 3 got soaked, we were dry as a bone unless it was a driving rain in our direction.

I like Green Bay. Actually don't mind Atlanta either. Hated them before, but I like Matt Ryan and kinda pulled for them after the Vick debacle. They are a rival of Carolina's though. I've always enjoyed watching GB. Even picked Rodgers in the draft for our league. He was my guy. I really like him as a QB. Would love him to be here with the Panthers.

It's nice, but like Brady's record INT streak, it doesn't mean a thing without an SB. Sanchez still has aways to go in that category. He had a very good game, the secondary was even better, but they are the lesser of the four teams left, imo. Anything can happen, though.

I almost feel sorry for the Pats fans. The Jets certainly gave them their payback. I only hope that the Steelers can do the same next week.

As for the NFC, I am not worried at all. If a team with a 7-9 record can make the playoffs then that whole conference is a joke IMO.

Watch the Bears win the Superbowl and prove me wrong though. That's OK. As long as they dedicate the win to former coach (and Pittsburgh native) Mike Ditka. I wouldn't mind eating that slice of Humble Pie.

Nice to see all of the Patriot garb wearing fans around here have gone into hiding. All I see now are the Steeler fans. Hope to knock them off next.

There is a guy I have seen in church, IN CHURCH, that wears a Brady jersey and and a Pat's hat. He does not even take it off while receiving communion! Shmuck! What are you 5 years old?

My wife told me that there were mostly Patriot fans at the Dave's and Buster's she was at here last night. Most "stormed out" right after the game. Probably a good thing I stayed home to watch. No way I could have kept my mouth shut.

I do think what the Jets have done this season is a great accomplishment. They had a pretty descent regular season and to me beating 2 of the top teams of the last 5 years in the Colts and Pats is pretty big. I think the Patriots are by far and away the best team in the league this season. Beating them in the playoffs was huge for Footjoy and the Jets. Beating the Colts was a bit of icing. Those are huge wins and winning is the only thing right? All I'm saying is that it isn't the SB. They have a ways to go. To say they haven't done great things is silly.

As you well know. Each year the teams change with different personnel. It matters little what happened in the past.

Am I to believe that by your logic that when the Patriots went unbeaten, but failed to win the SB they had a bad season? Were they profitable to their owner? I think so? Did they put a shellacking on the other teams? Yes. Losing one game a bad team does not make.

If the Steelers didn't have recent success I know for a fact you wouldn't be talking any smack to that effect. Last I checked I didn't play in the NFL either. So it matters little how I feel. DD. I don't think anyone ever said he "sucks". He has certainly had issues. Some of them reared their head during that game. He was lucky though. Made great decisions while running with the ball. Thought he was going to die a few times though. He wasn't crappy when he was with Denver. He's always had potential.

As for the Bears record. Football is football. Anything can happen. Just like everyone thought that NO would sail and put up a stellar record. Well they came out of the gates and fell on their faces. Atlanta lit it up. I thought Carolina would win the SB, but they did not. What can you do? Happens in hockey all the time. Teams that nobody gave much regard to end up kicking ass. Teams gel and play great together sometimes. I still think when Chicago plays a good team their card house is going to come down. Chicago....meet the Green Bay Packers.

I didn't either, but on the flip side, I didn't see any Jets fans brimming with confidence prior to the game. The closest thing that you wrote here was "There will be no shame in losing to the Pats right now. I just hope that they do not play the way they did the last time they played them." Um.... go team!

And I don't understand your stats problem. People make predictions before ever game. So your team doesn't get picked by many in one of them. BFD.

I think most people would argue these are the current top QBs, in no particular order:

Brady
Manning
Rivers
Brees
Rodgers
Ryan
Big Ben

I guess you could say that's upper-echelon. I was talking in terms of career, not just how he's playing now. If that was the case, he's #1. But four of the others have SB rings, some multiple, and have had stellar careers. I believe in him and I think he'll be great for a long time. Seriously ,what do you have against Ben(no,he's not a role model).....He very rarely throws that INT that cost them the game....,and is almost always coming through when needed most...i'd take him over Ryan,Rivers and Manning with 2:00 minutes and needing a TD,especially in the playoffs

I dunno, feedthemachine. I seems in this day and age that football is more about individual stats that actual team dynamics. Though HF seems to be snubbing Ben, the reasoning behind it can be justified with this: without a veteran squad to back him up he wouldn't have had the opportunity to get this far. OTOH what I think we're seeing this year is that Ben has matured as an athlete and has taken the reins as a veteran QB.

You put Brady on the Steelers and they are a much much much much much better team. No question. Same with Rodgers, Manning or Rivers.

Ben has played better this season for sure. His defense still seems to win the games for him. His TD/INT ratio was great this year though and he had very respectable passing yards. He is a big boy and that helps him shake off defenders. He is still scum in my eyes though. I can't get past his past.

Oh and I'd take Rivers in a heartbeat in my 2 minute offense. I remember that one game he got it done 3 times in a row due to his team and their issues. It was nothing short of amazing.

Funny thing about the Steelers. My neighbour was hanging with their old coach last night at the Canes game. I've met him there once. Last night Bill was there in the Champions lounge. One of my neighbours' friends is a Pittsburghian and was so pumped. It was like his best day of his life he said. LOL.

He's not in the bottom tier of QBs for sure. Top 10 all the way. Then again there are alot of crap QBs in the league making up that bottom half.

If you wanna meet Cowher, just come on down to Raleigh. I know where he lives! It's public record. Sounds like he was a good guy too. Wish he's coach the Panthers or NC State. That would be awesome.

You are either talking too much and turning into the Jets or you're just cold. Move south. That may help. LOL. Hey you gotta support your team. I gotta bust on your team. Just how it works. I like GB and I have to pull for my Jets. I don't like Chicago either. Where were they the last month of the season? Terrible. They had a few "wins" in there, but were either against a crap team or they flat out got lucky with crazy bounces going their way. Lucky.

It is going to be a good weekend. Can't wait.

As for results.....I'll have to wait for mine. If there are any problems they will call, otherwise I'll have to wait for the results in the mail I think.

I like Bill on TV too. If he won't coach in State then screw him.

Can only go round and round on the same topic for so long. Then it becomes like diarrhea ,seems to never end and very annoying:icon_lol:
I like Da' Bears to pull an upset and the Steelers in a close one...won't be surprised if it comes down to a missed FG....Forecast in Pittsburgh is bitter cold(6-7 F by kickoff) and windy....
Aaron Smith had limited practice today, this would be huge if he can play...,even at 80%
Now for some useless info.....A Steelers win Sunday ties the all time playoff wins record(with Dallas) ,and they already have the all time conference championship wins and appearances records .

Don't think Cowher wants the Panthers job(would you:icon_wink:..JK)...Honestly think he'll stay put on TV..He's had a tough time recently and probably just wants to relax and enjoy his girls ....Of course i don't know him ...Maybe he'll pop up in Cleveland(he did play there)

Me, too. I also like Big Ben...you're not alone. I think because he's not flashy or puts up huge numbers, he doesn't get the attention like Brady or Manning. But the kid wins and he's cool under pressure.

Now, before anyone jumps in (HF), I'm not saying he's the best of all time or that he hasn't benefitted from being on a solid team -- but all SB winning QBs are on great teams, and he's done it twice.

Have you seen the stats when Troy Polamalu is in the lineup and when he's not (with Ben as QB)? It's startling. It's like 14-4 when he plays and 6-7 when he does not. Hmmm.....

BTW,Ben has only been in the league 7 years ....
Compare his first 7 against anyone's and i bet they will hold their own...
He also has the most comeback wins in the past 7 years out of any QB..
Troy didn't help him with this:icon_razz:

Meh. Just means he didn't get the job done during the majority of the game. Whereas Brady destroyed teams by halftime.

That is a cute stat though. Almost as good as playoff road wins. It penalizes the QBs who had good records and mainly played home games.

Sounds like you're sweating this game. :icon_lol:

I wouldn't say that...but their home field record in AFC championship games is not so good.....maybe for a baseball player:icon_lol:.....they are .500,....5-5....
Shockingly Cowher suffered 4 of the 5 losses

Uh oh! This is starting to feel like last week. EVERYONE on TV is picking the Steelers. Fine by me. I wonder if the Steelers were playing the Pats last week who the pundits would have picked to win?

On another note, I really like Big Ben and the Steelers too. If they win I will root for them to win it all. That being said I do plan to walk in to my local Kroger after the Jets win this week and ask they take down the Steelers tarp/tent they have over the Frito Lay display.

Prediction: Jets vs. Green Bay Super bowl.

STEELERS # 7 -book it!

Don't be scared ,just be sure you have your lucky jersey ,socks, and boxers on ......oh and your sitting in the middle section of the couch holding your drink in your left hand:wink:
Oh and make sure your team knows your doing all this otherwise they will not know to win:lol:

This.

I think the Bears blow aside from their X-Panther players. Pittsburgh is surely a step up from the Bears, but not in the league of their opponent. Then again...any given Sunday. Jets can stink up a joint quite easily. Still, they are where my money is so I have to stick with them. GO JETS GO.

+1. Although part of me wants the Jets to win, so we can have two more weeks of Rex talking about how the Super Bowl will be "personal" with [insert Pack/Bears winner player or coach here] and how it will be "the most important game in Jets history."

That said, someone once told me that Big Ben is like, the best quarterback ever, waaaaaaay better than Brady or Manning, so the Steelers will win. And Rodgers is a stud. :icon_lol:

I was waiting for him to lose it like that guy from the Steelers always does. :icon_lol:

I would have taken the Pakers even as a 6/7 point favourite. It was closer than I'd have guessed. I figured that GB would win by 10 or even 13, but Rodgers sucked ass. He started how I figured he'd play all game. Not so much.

Next one should be close. I'm pulling for the Jets all the way. Jets by 3.
