We got rid of cable and bought a bunch of DVDs like blues clues (his favorate right now but it almost changes daily), thomas the tank engine, little people videos, dora the explorer and a bunch of others too but those are probably his favorite. The wife and I didnt want to subject the kids to the commercialization of them at an early age.

Also when do you have them watch their DVD/video/tv.
I limit alex to:
When he wakes up in the morning
When he wakes up from his nap in the afternoon
and a couple of other random times during the day

Even with this I feel like he is watching too much. He used to not watch much at all. I might put something in and he would get bored after five minutes and go do something now he can sit through a whole episode and more. They are a life saver though when Jack gets fussy and he needs some quiet time being held in the rocker chair. Anybody else feel torn a little on the TV thing.

I'm trying to be a hard nose about that. Tara is 18months, and we only let her watch an episode of dora before bed. She LOVES Dora... I don't even really like her being in that habit of expecting it. Weekends and trips to grandmas and the like are a different story, but I try and keep screen time to a minimum...

I let my kids watch t.v., not all the time of course, but when I need to get something done, I turn on cartoons, and let them watch it. It works really good as a rewards system. T.V. will always be around, and I am not going to shelter them from it now, as I think it will make them want to watch it more when they get older if I dont allow some t.v time now.

I think this sounds like a good plan, as it is about what I do too, dont deviate from anything you are doing, if it is what you think is right, then you are right, only you can parent to the best of your abilities.

That doesnt make any sense, but I think you guys can figure it out. lol

Oh boy...guess I'm the bad parent. The TV is usually on most of the evening provided there's a good hockey game going or in my wife's case "House Hunters". On the plus side, Cassandra seems to ignore it and simply goes about her business of pulling everything off the tables and climbing on the dogs.

We have some DVD's for her and she especially loves Dora and Teletubbies. I like teletubbies, too. The yellow one is nice.
