My daughter got a used Itouch that has no music on it. I want to import her Itunes library to the Itouch. I have her Itunes library open and am guessing I click the File tab and on the library selection click export library. Am I right? I just do not want o lose her library and have to reload it. Thanks in advance for any help, as long as it works.

I know when I bought my youngest the itouch, as soon as I hooked it up (to my mac) I added it as a new ipod and it automatically synced everything from my oldest sons ipod.
Just in case, do a backup of her current items first, so if there is trouble, you have all the items. We lost a few paid songs because we synced the ipod from a pc to a mac and never did a backup on the pc.

It has pretty much done all that but when I hit sync it starts then stops after about 5-10 seconds. I am not sure I should but I do not get an "do not disconnect Itouch' type message like I do when i sync my ipod. I set up a separate library few months ago and was able to perform this task with her shuffle.

Update,
Had a date with the "Apple Genius" today at our local Apple store. He cleared and reloaded the software on the Itouch. I then asked him to try to sync some demo stuff on the Itouch which he did and it did take. So that pretty much ruled out a problem with the Itouch. I came home in hopes that it would now sync her library and it would not. I then opened my library and ordered a new song and was able to sync the new song onto my Ipod. There must be some sort of software issue or setting issue with the Itunes and the Itouch. Any ideas ya geeks? The Genius told me there should be no issues because my daughter used to use a shuffle for the library and syncing.

Will all you Apple lovers please stop and let me get a word in edgewise for Cripes sake! I figured it out. I know Steve Jobs has some sort of cancer. I am starting to think he deserves it. Along with the aforementioned advice the "Genius" at the Apple store gave me was his idea to Uninstall and reinstall Itunes. That would be a big PIA if it were not needed due to having to repopulate the 3 libraries I have on my PC. Smarter heads prevailed and I did not go that route. Thanks Ricardo you fat useless POS. As you might know after the Itouch is detected by Itunes a little Itouch icon appears to the left of the library list. If you click on it twice like I did BY ACCIDENT a Itouch panel comes up asking if you need help with restoring you Itouch or need updates. Lower down a list of syncing options magically appear too! Changed from manage music manually to sync all checked music and friggen WALA! Done. I am once again Dad of the week at least for a few hours.

You try typing that 20 times a post. and that is what the kiddies call them anyway old man!
I know it unheard of for Job's disciples to rag on him but the store I was in was very brisk in business for a typical Wed. afternoon. 90% of the folks there had repair issues. I had to wait 90 minutes to talk to a repair tech. Hmmm. I have to point out that none of the reps looked nearly as cool as the guy in the Apple commercials. In the end, were the gracious? Yes. Did they rush me? No. did they keep me up updated as to my status to see a rep? Yes. Did they have the answer to a very rudimentary problem when given all of the information needed? NO!

Of course there were also morons in line that had perfectly good working and fully functional iPod Touches that were there not for repair issues, but wasting other peoples time who had legitimate problems. :eusa_whistle:
But we won't talk about that....technology fail.
Don't hate on a great business. Maybe if you had a Mac you'd "get it". Our apple store in Raleigh is great. Busy yes, but the folks working are attractive and therefore they know what they are talking about.
Glad it all worked out in the end and you can continue your loyal patronage to Apple.

Who is worse, a neophyte like me or a seasoned pro who did not have a clue? And there were many people walking out empty handed. Apple is a great company and I don't hate it but I think it is a bit over rated just like all of the North Face jackets I saw in the store today and just about everywhere else I go. They are more a fashion statement or status symbol.

I bought my son a NF jacket on the weekend. So what.
Only takes 1 person to buy and they pocket a bunch. Anyways. I don't have a PC. I have no clue how your version of iTunes works and how you are connecting. When I connect any of my iDevices the computer opens the program and it recognizes it. Same as when I got them. I have no clue why yours wasn't. Therefore I don't have much to add or help you with. For me the stuff works flawlessly and easily. Just get a Mac and call it good. May make life easier for you.

You guys crack me up.
I did it the hard way. Backed up everything to DVD's, uninstall from old computer, install on new computer, and reload everything from the DVD back-ups. We got the iTouch :icon_wink: (wife), an old 80GB 'classic' (me), and a nano (daughter). Each device has different memory amounts and functions and they all synch up easily. The twist was moving from the old laptop to the new laptop. iTunes doesn't like sharing the library or accounts across multiple pc's. They did add the home network/home sharing feature a few versions back but all the computers have to be on with iTunes running to be able to get at all the items shared on the network.
What were we talking about?

Unfortunately for "The Donald's Casino" he lost $20 when the NY Rangers tied it up with about 3 minutes on the clock . HF and I pushed for the season series.
