Frankie is nine months old.
Finding interesting things to do was pretty easy this summer. I'm a little concerned with the winter. Any Ideas?

at nine months it's pretty much your call.
you can't go wrong with the big three: Malls, Museums, and Libraries. bookstores were always a big fave of mine, too.
we have a local place that sells those outdoor playsets - the big, wood ones - and they have a huge showroom. on cold, wet days it's "the" place to visit for a 1/2 hour and the staff encourage it.
also, there's always tons of those Kid's Gyms, Gymbories, etc. all over the place. you can even take your child to a local college campus and just stroll him/her around and check the place out.
i enjoyed doing the adventurous free stuff when mine were young. now that they are 3 and 4, we kinda have to do the $$$ stuff more often, as they require much more stimulation than being wheeled around.
i already miss their younger years. <sigh!>

So I have a bucket of gears, motors, nuts and bolts and broken tools (old drill, brake cylinder etc - all meticulously degreased and decontaminated and with choking pieces removed). He'll amuse himself for quite some time with that and I've just brought it up from the basement again for this winter.
I love this idea!

Same here, Mall is good to let the little one move around in a big space. We have a huge basement that I hope to start finishing but in the meantime it is still a good place for them to play, they even ride their scooters/big wheels (it's roughly 1800 sq feet, ranch style house)
Also, check out your local gyms, many, like the YMCA have a kids room, you work out, they watch the kid and he can play with others.

The mall is always a great one. In the vein of a museum, aquariums make for a nice couple of hours. Of course, a trip to Petco to get dog food can be fun since they have all the birds, mice, and fish for the kids to look at. Bookstores are great and so can a trip to Target.
There's also a playset showroom about 2 minutes from my house and my kids love it.

Not much in this area to do so I always have to travel a little bit to do anything during the cold months. Who knows what this winter holds for us, this year has been quite crazy on the weather front so we could be in for some serious snow.

i don't like to admit it, but we visit our "friends" at Target at least - LEAST - twice a week after Pre-K. right now their Halloween display (aka Spookytown, as we call it) can absorb 1-2 hours of fun. just beware the dreaded toy aisles, which are conveniently placed right beside the Halloween display. grrr!
;) ;) ;)

We went there today as a matter of fact and had a great time just looking on a rainy day. We even walked their with him in the backpack carrier. 8)

Skiing! Nine months is a little young for that but I started my kid at 3 years old last winter and we had a great time on the rope tows. Hopefully this year we'll move up to the chair lifts and get some respectable run time. I used to instruct small children so that helped us but little kids pick it up amazingly quick as soon as their leg muscels are developed enough. Other than that we just go out to lunch alot and go to Portland about once a week to hang out for a day. When we get the occassional nice day we take full advantage of it and spend the day kicking around outside. This will be my first winter with our new girl so we'll have to see how it works out.

Uh... Monk?.. Meant to tell you this at the airshow but... those size 6 huggies... they're a little small... on you
Ehhh?
What's wrong with bungie cording the diapers to me?...
Plus, if you don't recall, I had some flannels over those huggies at the airshow...NJ can get chilly, even in the summer.

Winter activities are slightly different in South Florida, so I thought I had better chime in!
Put on a pair of shorts and head for the park! :D :D :D Maybe the beach too. :D :D :D Last winter I got into walking every morning with the baby, but stopped once summer hit and it was too danged hot. I'm really looking forward to some major park time this winter. She is now old enough to really start exploring and playing, and we have some awesome parks and nature centers around here.

that's the big down side to living in a state that with no income tax. Our parks here are terrible (and that's an understatement). :( The playground equipment laughable and most of the time it's broken. The grass is never kept up so the parks become mosquito breeding grounds. Most don't have picnic tables, or any shaded areas. Did I mention I can't wait to move?

We don't have a state income tax in Florida. Our amenities are funded in part by property tax and in a large way by all of you nice northerners who come down to visit and pay sales tax! :D :D :D With all of the tourism it's in Florida's best interest to have top notch parks and recreation opportunities other than Disney. I'm also lucky that I live in an area that is exploding with young families. Our county parks and rec is one of the best I have ever seen.
