How has the latest Google update been to you? I have seen a lot of chatter from the boards about people getting hit hard and totally dropped. The sites I work on are doing fine, but we aren't dependent on christmas sales, we are more year round with our products.

Are you guys still doing well?

Dave

I got hit with the last update in late July. Wiped out my main source of income. Working on making a comeback now :)

My community site Get The NET Results (http://www.getthenetresults.com) got a positive bump from the changes Google made. My consulting site SmallBiz-ID.com (http://www.smallbiz-id.com) stayed the same.

Funny how you seem to find a way to plug your sites :o Not that I am totally opposed to that but I have been in the online marketing biz for a while my opinion on posting URL's is that it tends to lean towards the spamming my board side.

I try to keep my own sites away (I own a ton of domain names), I run a few amazon ads for stay at home dad books and have the shopping section that has links to merchants but as you can see I try to stay away from placing ads on this message board (which gets the most hits, by far over all the others pages) as I know that there are the 10-20 regular visitors who really do not need ads in the way of reading and posting.

OK, off the soapbox. I am trying not to be mean so sorry if I am coming off that way.

Sorry if I've been perceived as spamming. If you'd prefer that I remove the link to my site from my Sig Line, I'll be happy to. Most of the sites I frequent don't have a problem with that and in fact many of the users do post their links in the Sig. I also noticed a few other members here were doing the same thing so I thought it was acceptable.

With regard to this post, I was simply trying to respond to the question that was asked and I have two sites so I thought it was relevant to point out how each was affected by the change at Google. I think I may have only posted my URL in the body of a post one other time while I've been here (also in the Daddy Inc section). Again, if you frown on it I'll be happy not to do it.

I think your site is a great resource for stay at home dads and that's my primary interest in being here. I'm also a work at home dad and since the resources for WAHDs are extremely limited (I know of no site dedicated to the topic), I am very interested in actively reaching out to other WAHDs to share experiences, tips, and ideas.

Thanks for your feedback.

You can put the URL in your sig, I have no problem with that, if I did, I would have said so :D

It's just, like you, I frequent many other boards, most of them are actually geared towards webmasters, SEO, marketing, that kind of thing. I see them constantly get bombarded wth spam and I just try to nip it in the bud :)

I like having you here.

Thanks, glad to be here! :D

I'll also be sure to tone it down.

I am all for having people advertise and such. You can always skip that portion of someone's posting or what have you. It is one thing to see a spam post from someone who has never posted before on the site, but to see someone who is "active" in the forum community I don't mind at all. But thats just my opinion and I don't run this forum. =p

I have my site in my sig, but don't think of it is advertising, since I sell a product for weddings, and most of you are married! I like seeing them in sigs because I find it interesting learning what other businesses people are running from home.

As for this last Google update, it didn't change things for me. But one back in February slammed me - it hit when I was in the process of updating my site, and I slipped through the cracks for a while. Thankfully, there's AdWords. Since then, I've also done a lot of work to make sure my site is well optimized... that helps for stability in the ranks.

Usually if I can turn the sigs off then I could care less what is in it, but when your stuck with sigs I have to admit I get sick of seeing them (keep in mind I hate sigs regardless, but the URL is just extra annoying. Afterall that's what the www button at the bottom is for. Also if you have to throw a link of your website in at every other post then I'd say spam and see ya later (although in a section devoted to working at home I'd probably overlook it)... but that's just my 2 cents...

All fair points guys...I'm not here to offend. :D As I mentioned, as a SAHD I really like the community here and have met some great folks. This in fact the only dad site I'm part of!

I'll admit I've been up front with displaying my domain, but in addition for the normal parental networking I'm also looking to connect with other work at home parents to reach out in that specific aspect, too.

I've met some good freelancers at other Work at Home Parent (mainly WAHM) sites that I've had the pleasure of working with on some of my client projects. Being a dad, I'd like to connect with some WAHDs but there exist no sites that I'm aware of focused on the at-home business aspect of being a dad. So I was a little overzealous here, my bad. Sorry, dudes!

Shameless self-promotion is absolutely necessary when you're self-employed. :D

You have to be comfortable with yourself, a little bold, and proud enough to advertise yourself and your services. I felt like an idiot when I started my little side business 12 years ago. I felt like a bigger idiot getting shirts made up with the business name on them and actually wearing them out of the house.

Now I laugh all the way to the bank! 8)

So if anybody needs any engineering work done - PM me! I design things for money. :D

Justin, don't sweat it man. As Jeffus said when you work for yourself a little shameless plug doesn't hurt and as I stated we know who is spamming and who isn't. Yes Don is doing what he should in keeping the forum to a spam free environment which is a good thing.

Why not man? Rock it good, its more fun that way. I'll have to say I'm super glad none of you guys have big picture banners in your sigs linked to your business. Thats irritating to me. Some linked text I don't mind at all.
My $0.02

(Oh, and if CAPSMAN comes back, I really do like messing with posts like that. Don just deletes them, but where's the fun in that?!? )

What have we learned here? Don hates spam :) Tony takes spam and has fun with it. Others don't mind small bits of spam here and there as long as it's done in good taste.

Now that we have clarified that time to redirect your posts. Remember the good old days where boobs and beer seemed to take over about every thread

I just bought the Saranac winter mix. (local beer brewed in th Adirondacks) and it has some interesting flavors, a chocolate, which I love, only 1 or 2 at a time though and another favorite is a Caramel Porter. Black and Tan is good as well. I used to hate the dark beers but now I kind of like them when the weather turns cold.

Don, there are some really awesome winter beers out there, I wish we could get more of them here! Our own local brewers do a great job them too, but there aren't very many. My favorite is the "winter warmer" style, big abv, malty and spiced to make you think of cold winter nights by the fire....

mmmmm boobs, dang, can't go wrong with boobs....

How about boobs and beer then, might as well put the two together.

And on the topic of Boobs... Remember when you were a kid, your back yard was a the size of a stadium... and when you now venture past the place, it's amazingly small? :???: ... I wonder if the same thing applies with your first girlfriend??? :D :D

A while back, one of my friends pointed out that none of my girlfriends were ever smaller than a C cup. \:D/

Though it is a bit disconerting when your wife mentions that she and your mother share the same bra size. =;

Saranac's winter collection is a tasty one. They did a great job with their summer collection this year too. Yum. Love the local beers.

Well by all the posts and all i assume we had a major snafu somewhere and someone tripped over the plug again. Glad to see it is slowly recouping.. though I didn't miss much as I was at work when it occured.
