So I'm at home with my 8 month old, and I feed him and we go run errands and we play together, and he plays by himself a little, and then sometimes I just run out of things to do with him!!

Does this happen to any body else?
And what the hell do you do about it?

It probably doesn't help that we've just moved into a new area and don't have the lay of the land yet....and Elliott and I do some exploring. I just hate keeping him in his car seat all day long.

I can't remember the last time I was bored. In the house right now I have an almost 4 y/o, 9 y/o, 20 y/o and my 4 month old granddaughter. Not to mention our newborn due to be born in another month and the older woman who hangs out in my house once in a while and has the job that pays the bills. Keeping up with them, plus doing all the errands and household chores, I have managed to forget what it feels like to be bored. On the opposite side of things, I can't recall the last time I felt like I was caught up. I am also quite prepared to be totally overwhelmed when the new baby arrives.

Just wait until your son learns to walk! You won't be bored ever again. :axe:

I lucked out when Tara was that age, we have a little trail system three blocks from the house, so I'd strap her into the bjorn and go. Take a walk when the boredom strikes. (Although, I also felt a bit self conscious at that point, tho I was getting over it ;) )

Yeah...we've got a carrier that is totally confusing to put him in (as well as put on me). The husband of a friend from college is a SAHD and he's got a hiking-style backpack that he puts their daughter in....you know, the heavy-duty kind with the strap that goes around your waist. I've been thinking about getting one of those...sounds like it would be a good thing...either that or a better carrier.

Our bjorn was a trick to get set up, but once we figured it out (read: swallowed my pride and read the directions) its darn handy. We've also got a backpack/stroller that worked awesome once she was a bit older.
I think I linked it somewhere else in the forum...

I have a backpack for my youngest. Very easy to use although it is tricky getting it off and on with the child seated. but if you have a van or truck, just use that the back or truck bed, then it is very easyh. Just set the backpack up, mine has nice sturdy plastic legs, put child inside, strap them in. Sit down with back facing pack and slide it on.

We had a front carrier that was only good til my boys turned 6 months, then they outgrew it. the backpack is rated for 40lbs.

Hey Chef...

I think we all get a little bored from time to time. Its normal. Babies are sure fun to play with but they dont have the stamina at 8 months to be able to out last an adult. At 15 months, the story changes. Get in shape now, that's all I have to say.

When my daughter was 8 months or so, we would take her around the neighborhood in her stroller. For us, the best solution was to get one of those jogging strollers. They ride really smooth if you get one with pneumatic tires. Your baby will love it. We've added reflectors and a headlight to it. Someday I'm going to add some neon lights underneath.

Also around the 8 month time frame, my girl started to enjoy shopping (big surprise). She still loves to go out to the store. You can always take your baby to the grocery store and during the day there seems to be more grandmother types who love to talk to babies. This can be good or bad depending on how social you are feeling.

But as for being bored while baby is asleep, well, I read a lot. I tried doing serious work like keeping my programming skills up to date. The unpredictability of my girl's sleep patterns and the fact that I have 2 dogs that need to be cared for crippled that idea. I'd suggest that whatever you decide to do to combat your boredom, make it something simple that can be completed within 2 hours or can be re-started 5 hours later. Nothing worse than getting 2 hours into a 4 hour project and hearing the baby sounding the dirty diaper alarm.

I used to get bored but i have been at it for a while and have found many new hobbies. I just jump from one thing to the next and play with the kids in between.

I have still get bored from time to time and that is usually when I am tired. I don't feel like doing anything but popping in a movie with the kids and I get a little bored.

But mostly I am on the "go" and find little time to be bored.
