local SAHD groups

About a year ago, with a lot of help and suggestions from other SAHD's, I started a local group for SAHD's in central Florida. Over time I came across other SAHD groups in other states and began to list their links.

The only problem was that the folks that would get the most from finding these links would first have to join my local group, which would be unlikely for someone looking for SAHD's in NY.

Rather than dumping and ignoring the efforts of others I created a group at sahdcentral: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sahdcentral/

It is my hope that anyone with knowledge of a local SAHD group would list their link in the appropriate state/province and an indication of the city you hope to draw members from.

If you are looking for a group, or are interested in starting one, please post a message indicating the same information and hopefully other dad's in the area will see your message and respond.

Please understand that I am not trying to diminish the efforts of this forum in any way, but rather to assist in the ability of SAHD's to contact and communicate with each other. Any constructive suggestions are welcome.

I went to your site and took a look around.

Two things came to me as I was browsing you site.....

1 - your claims about Central Florida are false...you have North and South, but not central.

2 - you are trying to be a "central" headquarters for all SAHD groups.

Though your efforts are always welcome and it does seem you are trying to drive SAHDs away from this site. It is ALWAYS good to have more information and other resources.

Sorry you were disapointed.

Regarding your first allegation, yes we do have several SAHD's in Orlando(FL), maybe 2 in Lakeland (FL), as well as other locations. With respect to the Jacksonville-Tallahassee-panhandle area as "north," and Miami-Naples being South, I would consider the rest "central."

As for your second allegation, that is true. I am hoping to provide a "central" and easy location for as many SAHD's as possible to find one another.

When I became a SAHD I had moved to a new town and not only became a SAHD, but I personally knew nobody in my area. I found the isolation extermely depressing and maddening. It is my hope to help as many SAHD's as possible avoid that!

I am specifically and definativley NOT trying to drive SAHD's from this site. Quite to the contrary, this site is one of 6 listed under Forums (a catagory which has other large forums all with potential global reach). I actually hope that the traffic to this site triples in the next 12 months. I really feel that there are many SAHD's out there that have no idea about the resources and other dads that are in their communities.

Again, it is my sincere hope that SAHD's find as many of these kind of forums as possible. Which by the way is why I limit the discussion on sahdcentral specifically to looking for or creating local groups.

As an after thought, I noticed your location listed as "Orlando, Fl."

I think there are a few SAHD's on this fourm from Orlando. There are a few on the a few other forums, and a few isolated guys in the Kissime, and Daytona areas.

What if all these guys could find out that they might be within 20 minuites of each other?? Wouldn't that be realy, really cool!!!
