Just what I needed this weekend. It looks like I am in the nearly direct path of what will probably be a catagory 2 hurricane that is coming to visit Friday afternoon. I'm inland enough not to be concerned about storm surge or bad flooding, but the winds will knock out our electricity for a while. This area doesn't get hit very often, so we will have lots of trees and other debris spread all over the place. Keep an eye on your news to see where Hurricane Charley hits.

If there is no electricity this weekend, it could make for an exciting anniversary on Saturday. Hmmmmmmmmmm.........Spam by candlelight?

Yes sir....

St. Pete is the land of Retires! We boys here in Florida are use to these Hurricans WARNINGS. I remember that HUGE one that was coming and was suppose to wipe out most of Florida a couple of years back. Lots of rain and wind.

Charlie is a good name, the Tuna guy thought so. If it does hit St. Pete and heads north...the wind could screw some crap up in Central Florida (Orlando).

Hope not! But watch for us Florida boyz on the news!

Bonnie should be a catagory 1 hurricane before it hits land tomorrow. It's actually headed for my mother-in-law. Charley should be a catagory 2 hurricane before it hits U.S. soil Friday. When I went to Wal-mart this afternoon it was a madhouse. When I got my water there were 4 cases left. No C or D batteries left. They had 5 guys trying to restock the canned veggies, but they couldn't keep up. You couldn't make me go to Home Depot tomorrow even if you promised me free diapers and formula for life! I just hope Florida Power & Light can keep up with 2 storms at once. Jeb Bush has already declared a state of emergency for the entire state of Florida and is starting to activate the National Guard for evacuations. It's always a mess when they have to evacuate the Florida Keys.

I talked to my dad and he and my mom live in Clearwater, FL. He basically said the same thing. He went out to get supplies, batteries, and flashlights, etc... Said he was at Walmart and it was a zoo. He said he left one flashlight hanging and the batteries were gone. Luckily my dad is the type to keep batteries in his desk at home just in case.

Note - just think if Hurricane Charlie was name Clyde. Begins with the same letter...

We've already been dumped with rain this month. And those hurricanes are pushing some intense thunderstorms right up our way today and tonight (with one of those Wizard of Oz skies).

But that's what I love about being back east. When I lived in San Fransciso, beautiful weather, but as mild as wonder bread, and just as satisfying. I grew up in Buffalo, and storms are part of my being!

Well, we here on the east coast are takin' it easy. As long as it doesn't take a hard right!! Were  monitering  the situation! SAHD you talk of memories...I was in Miami for Andrew  We alternated holding the french door for 30 minutes(the MEN-wink-wink) so it wouldn't get sucked open :!: Then it was two weeks(no electricity) of fireside banter, beer, & bad breath!

I live across the river in Lower Bucks co, and we have been hit hard with the rain also.

Wouldnt you know the week we are going on vacation, I figured for months that there would be a big storm when we were going down there, but who would have guessed there would be two of them. We are leaving tomorrow (friday) afternoon and taking I95 most of the way down there, so I will be drivivng through both of them. And saturday when charlile is coming up through there, I will be on the beach as long as they dont evacuate Oak Island. After that a little rain here and there but the rest of the week will be good vacation weather, at least the storm will be over before we really start the vacation.

Its scraping the bottom of 70 this morning so its picking up. Yesterday was the tail end of a week of rain. At least I know my landscaping did something, as no water made it into the basement.

They officially cancelled our local schools for tomorrow a few hours ago. I just looked at the latest forecast and they say conditions are perfect for the storm to intensify to a possible Catagory 3, which is considered a major hurricane, just before hitting Florida. Right now they are predicting it to hit Tampa, but we will still get nailed with really bad wind and rain. It doesn't take much for a hurricane to suddenly shift course, so I have to finish getting ready for a direct hit. That means bringing everything inside that I don't want to have the storm put through my window. Our weather is starting to get sour. Our winds are picking up and it's getting gray. Our low lying areas are all getting evacuated too. Thankfully, I'm inland enough I don't even have to evacuate in a catagory 5 storm. Oddly enough, the folks just across the street are forced to evacuate in a Catagory 4 or worse storm. I guess my house is considered expendable!

Awesome!!!.....I hope it is still a decent storm when it gets up to N.C. I would love to be able to say I was standing on the beach during a hurricane. I lived through so many tornadoes in Iowa, that they were second nature, so a hurricane sounds like fun, as long as it isnt to big.

I'm about to shut down my computer before we get hit. The storm is going to nail us in a few hours. The latest movement is coming VERY close to Fort Myers and they are expecting storm surge of at least 10 feet. I'm expecting to lose power for several days. I'll check in when my lights are back on. Nothing like losing your air conditioner in South Florida in the summer!

Looks like it has hit Ft Myers as a category 4 with winds up to 145 mph -

It may miss Tampa altogether.

In a perverse sort of way I guess that's a good thing. Cost of recovery and risk to life are minimal. Still have yet to see what it does to the Citrus crops down there. I hear Indian River isn't faring too well ordinarily. This'll be a big blow (no pun intended) to their economy.

Actually, my church has adopted the community of Pine Island, which took a nearly direct hit, and is helping at 3 shelters there. We are collecting anything we can get, including clothing, food, toys, etc. I'll post another new subject on this very idea. Thanks for the thought!
