I am posting this after today's airport experience. We just got back from a quick visit to my wife's parents. Anyway, my wife and I and son are seated in the gate area prior to boarding a flight today. 7 a.m flight and the gate area was packed with business men. This lady sitting across from us had a son about the same age as ours (2). Anyway, before boarding the Mother takes out a diaper/wipes from her bag and leaves it on the seats for a few minutes. I think okay she's going to take the toddler to the washroom to change him soon. Instead, she changes him right there on the seats of a packed gate area. A fully soiled poopy diaper right in front of everyone. My wife was shocked and talked about this for hours! I thought it was in poor taste not to go 10 feet to the washroom and do it. We don't resort to doing this in public ever. What would you guys do in this type of situation...change the diaper there or head to a washroom? Ever do this?

Gross.........

No man... I would go straight to the washroom, no questions asked. That is in poor taste. I understand that your own kids poop is not as horrible as another person' kid's poop but let's have some respect...

blah! :?

It would depend on the situation. If I was with my wife I would always go to the washroom. If I was by myself and had a huge pile of stuff (my carry on bag, diaper bag, blanket or jacket, car seat to gate check, etc.) I would do my best to discreetly and quickly change the diaper right where I was rather than try to move all that stuff to the washroom or risk getting it stolen. Especially if I was by myself with all that stuff and this was my 3rd connection for the day after already traveling 12 hours with my toddler. Now, if she didn't have much stuff, she should have gone to the washroom without question.

#2, if the bathroom is close by, always, actually #1 as well. Some folks are lazy, she probably did not even wrap it in a bag, imagine the smell as it sits in the trash for a few hours. I would change a #1 if the bathroom was not close by.

That is a good point. If I was by myself then I may have to skip the washroom idea. But I would expect to offend people in replace of stepping out of line and hauling all my personal belongings with me.

#2, always in the washroom, but we will do a pissy diaper on a bench, because we can do it in a matter of seconds.

We were at the NJ state aquarium a while back, and My wife changed him in his stroller and I didnt even know it, so I imagine noone else did either. Too many people looking at the sharks.

Ya know, if I'm going to do it quick, I can do it pretty near anywhere fairly incognito, but if there are facilities I'd prefer to use them.
I've posted this in another much earlier thread, but the only time I'm obnoxious about it is when there is no changing table available. Screw 'em if they can't provide a place for me, I'll change her right here on your table!
(Thankfully doesn't happen too often ;) )

LOL, I still tell my wife that the men's room doesnt have a changing table, I think she know's I am pulling her leg, but she doesnt argue. Most of the stores have the little sign on the door "changing table inside"

Hell I'd change him right smack dab in the middle of that spanky new terminal 3, and if anyone gave me a dirty look . I'd smear a great big giant chicken cassorole happy face on the bay window with the dirty diaper. :P

"diaper duck" which is a small yellow duck which dispenses blue garbage bags. And the dirty deeds was done dirt cheap
We've got one of those as well, comes in quite handy!

As a one time janitor I've seen more then I care to of changing tables in bathrooms. Our diaper bag comes with a pad that you lay out on top if the table to avoid any and all contact with those things...
