Hi Folks.
What can I say other than this first year of being Mr. Mom has been surreal. Unlike most stay at home dads, the choice wasn't voluntary as I was laid off three weeks prior to his birth. It was a rather bitter moment and still smarts a bit however time has that way of smoothing things out. Along the way I've had the enviable opportunity of playing a direct role in Jim's development and I've a renewed respect in my own mother's constitution. Jim's a happy child always smiling and adventurous and to quote my wife "we're as thick as thieves". We've our own routine that getting to be a lot more fun as he crawls about and we sometimes "rough house" on the living room floor. All activity ceases at 10:30 am as Boobah followed by Telletubbies comes on. Prior to being a dad I used to catch glimpses of those shows and wonder what on earth did I find so fascinating about the equivalent programs as a "wee brat" so long ago. But to now see the world through his eyes opens up a sparkling but faintly familiar world of immense immagination. Now I know how Dr. Seuss must feel. I look back on that fateful day almost a year ago when I carried my papers out to the car and in all honesty had I known then what a trip this would be.... I would have smiled. :)
