When my wife was close to her due date my boss wanted to know what the doctor was saying. I told him that the doctor might want to induce her. He then asked me to talk to my wife and see if she can be induced after my work hours. I told him that I would ask. When I called my wife she got very mad that he would even ask that. The doctor did induce her during the workday and I had to leave work and my boss asked me didn't you ask your wife to induce after work hours.

Yeah and you should have told him that if you don't induce you'll see if the baby is willing to deliver after work. Sounds like your old boss is a bit of a moron. If this led to any type of repercussions for you on the job you may have a legal case against him. Do we have anyone knowledgable about labor law on the forum?

How stupid. Planned inducements are always done during the day when there is a full staff. What an ass for even asking.

Well, not ALL of them. We were scheduled to go in at MIDNIGHT! I think the logic there is that when she gets going full-speed it will be daytime, when staff will be there.

Seattle - your former boss is a jack*ss. Your wife had every right to be pissed. Completely insensitive and unreasonable. My old boss could have asked the same question, he's the exact same way. One time I requested half a day off, he said no problem. But later in the day when I told him it was to go to a ballgame he stated "well maybe it's not such a good idea". Nothing is worse than an idiot boss.

What a tool.

My very first proper job, I worked for an excitable Spanish guy who was all of 5'2" (I'm 6'7") and who, when he wanted to give me a piece of his mind (almost every day), would jump up on his swivel chair so as to be able to rain imprecations down on me. It was quite a scene, people would call their friends on other floors of the building to come up and watch.

For some reason, every time my kid craps in my hand when I'm changing his diaper, I remember that.

Maybe she could have pounded the kid out during your break. This way, you could just go right back to work.... :D

Reminds me of the scene in The Incredibles where Mr. Incredible gets reemed out by his tiny boss.. and ends up throwing him through multiple walls.

Must have been very funny to see that guy on a chair doing that (Not at the time for you though). That scene in The Incredibles does sound close.

I did not get any breaks and most of the time no lunches. He called me today (One month after I quit) and wanted to know a password for a clients computer.

My boss joked about my wife taking a cab and meeting her at the hospital, at least I think he was joking. My wife was such a trooper with our last baby -- I work for a newspaper, and she waited until I was off deadline to call and inform me her contractions were 10 minutes apart. By the time I got home, they were down to 7 minutes, we had the baby six hours later. I wished she would have called me sooner, the contractions were really painful by the time they got the epidural in.

I hope your boss was kidding. My old boss called about 2 weeks ago and wanted me to be on call when he was out of town. I said sure and he told me he would pay for any time I was called. I was never called and never heard from him.
