My daughter is off to the first grade next week. I think I am more nervous than her as I have been home with her for 6 years. I expected to be staying home with the next baby. However, my wife just miscarried. She is not sure if she wants to even try for another baby. This pregnancy had alot of complications. Now I'm not sure what to do with myself during the day. Well, I plan on taking a class and volunteering. But, I'm afraid that will not fill the day. Any thoughts on this topic?

My oldest, 5 in November is off to kindergarden in 2 weeks, all day. But I have a 1 year old that keeps me busy. Not so sad to see him off to kindergarden, he has been the devil child the last few weeks  Plus I think he will have alot of fun with his new classmates.

This might bwe a good time to explore a new career, maybe one you can do from home or as you stated, take some classes to achieve the goal of working for yourself and being able to be a stay at home parent til your child is off to college.

My son just started first grade and we have no other children. I volunteered as a room parent. I just help the teacher when she has too much paperwork to do. I run coppies and do other meanial tasks. It has helped me develope a healthy relationship with the teacher and I am in touch with what is going on in his class. It is really rewarding. I got a part time job working a few days a week so I could have something to do when the teacher doesn't need me. This money just goes into my son's college fund. So I am a SAHD and a Stay at School Dad now. I will probably start taking classes since I did not finish my degree. You never know when the wife's income could be reduced or go away. Hopefully you find something gratifying to fill your time. Hope I helped.

Chris in Fort Worth.

Ron, I am sorry about the miscarriage.

My daughter will be off to school in a year from now. I am looking forward to hearing more from you and your reactions. It may help me better prepare for it.

Sorry to hear about the miscarriage. Give your wife our best!

Sending them off to school is AT FIRST scary, then it is a welcome change for the SAHD! I of course, do not have the luxury to head back to school because my 3 year makes the rules right now!

BUT when she gets to K.....SLEEP and me will be best of BUDS!!
:D

I am very sorry to hear about the miscarriage also, my condolences.

When I lived in Iowa there was a radio station out of Des Moines that was a talk radio station. The morning show was called "Van and Bonnie", every year, well it started the first year that Van's daughter went to kindergarden, he sang a little song that I can't put into words, but it was about a father sending his daughter of to kindergarden, it was awesome, it would bring a tear to the eye of even the strongest men. I am going on a mission today to see if I can find it, and I will post it on here if I can. My little description here just doesnt do it justice.

It is a tear jerker for me, his daughter is on her way to college now, but they still, or did before I moved, play that every year around this time. The bond between a father and daughter is something else, as I dont think I will have these feelings when my son heads off to school.

Ron sorry to hear about the miscarriage best wishes to you and your wife.

I have one in 1st, kindergarten,6th,7th this year it doesn't get any easier. I have one left for next year. I'm studying to be a writer. just a thought for you or go to your local college and take a few classes.

My wife's two aunts also had miscarriages and then tried again, it was a little tough but all turned out well for them in the end. They had wonderful children. Good luck.

That tune did the same for me guys. Reminds me of all my girls.
They grow up way to fast.

I live in the northern suburbs of philly. Bensalem to be exact, but more people know where Philly is than Bensalem. So I just put philly on there. And I just love being able to say I am from Philly, the history of this city amazes me, and I am proud to say I am from Philly. I have heard of Exton before, but I am not sure exactly where it is, as I have only lived here for a few yrs.
