View Full Version : Thanks for having me!
First time on this site, and I am very impressed! I spent about an hour (yes, wife is home now so I am off the hook for a minute!!) sifting through past posts, and got some chuckles. My wife actually found this site and suggested checking it out. Glad I did! My son Jason is 4 months old. I am a new dad, and even more new as the stay at home dad! I am already loving every second of it.....well, maybe that's overstating it. Nice to see that some of the early anxieties of the SAHD have been felt and overcome by many of you. That is very reassuring! Again, thanks for having me.....
Welcome, welcome. Glad you found us! I'm also glad we can provide some entertainment!
I find myself laughing quite a bit reading through the messages....
and it is awesome to find other people in your situation.
Post away, and tell your wife thanks from us for pointing you here! 8)

Welcome Kev. It's nice that your wife was looking to lend you some support and found this site. It can get lonely if you can't vent or talk to others that relate to your situation.
Thanks to everyone for the responses. One question for you guys: like I said in the previous post, Jason is 4 months old, and I sometimes feel limited as to what I can do with him. As I told my wife, dangling a toy in front of jason's face only occupies him for so long :) . What kinds of activities or places are out there for him, if anything? Also, what age were your kids when you felt like they started getting involved in more things? I live just outside of Boston (please refrain from the Red Sox/1918 remarks!), so I feel like there should be plenty for him to do. Any advice or insight is appreciated.

I ran into the same problems with my 1st daughter. Right now I have 3 kids and another one due in December. That will make 4 kids under the age 5.
Right now the kids play with each other and it is more of making sure they share and don't squabble. But with one it was kind of tough. I went down to the second hand stores and bought tons and tons and tons of books. Who cares if they are in mint condition, as long as you can see the pictures and read the words - you and the kids will love it. You can only read the same book so many times before you are seriously ready to toss it out.
But I would read and read over and over again and she loved it. Then she would get old enough where she thought it was fun to kick the books out of your hand.
Once your kids learn to walk it is a whole new world. Take the kid on walks and they will soak up everything. My kids are great on walks.
But it won't be long. One thing I have learned about kids. Don't ever hope for the next stage as any type of relief. There is change but they are all equally challenging. Just learn to enjoy the stage they are at without hindering their growth.
I would find a nice backpack to put the child in and bring her everywhere you want to go. Remeber, they were born into your world and not the other way around. They need to learn to adapt to life. So, bring them everywhere you go... in a backpack or a stroller.

Be patient young grasshopper. Before you know it your child will be crawling then walking and you will miss the early days
Get yourself out and take walks with the child in a front pack or stroller. Once my son was about 9 months, I'd pack him in a baby backpack and go for nice walks. Great way to let them chec out the world and get you in shape to run around with them :)

My wife found this site for me to, she called me from work one day after we had an arguement, I checked it out, and posted a couple times on the old message board. Now she is teasing me telling me she should have never told me about it cause I spent so much time on here chatting, and because Tony made me spend so much money on my Kegerator and brewing supplies.....lol j/k Tony
Mike, I'm only a fella at an intersection pointing in directions, its you choice to follow!

Yeah, but a man pointing towards a beer keg has an unfair advantage!

Beautiful!
Kev, I'd like to add about getting out and going for a walk with the little one. We've got some great trails around by us, and I would load tara into the front end holder (aka baby bjorn) and set out. She absolutely loved it, eyes wide open taking it all in. It was still spring and cool, so when we got back she'd sleep like a baby... wait, she was a baby... but you understand.
Good luck! Visit us often

Kids love walks I tell ya! :D
Mine just sit down, assume the position, and take it all in. They don't even bother talking to me or each other and I can actually get some quiet time to think... and of course great exercise - which I need!

Where I grew up in Iowa, we had alot of farm land to roam around on, and there was alot of parks to do nature walks in, but here it is limited, there are alot of places dont get me wrong, but the peace and serenity of the walks I did in Iowa are not even comparable to the ones that are here.
I have found that walks around our neighborhood, meeting some new neighbors, and just socializing is almost as enjoyable as the parks that are available.
:D
