Hey guys... I don't get a lot of time to listen to music anymore. I used to listen to Metallica and heavy metal. But now with the kids I listen to "rock a bye baby" and all them great classics!

Do you find time to listen to music and if so what kind?

Kind of curious as to what ya'll listen to!

Music....

Of course. Metal STILL! LimpBizKit, LinKin Park, Drowning Pool, etc. AND I listen to it in my truck when I am driving all over gods creation for appointments, soccer practice, the gym.

Of course it is at a MONO tone with little to no bass! But we make some changes when we have kids!

I listen to everything under the sun except hip hop. Used to be a metal head too. Still listen to the heavy and classic rock stations here in town, even with Tara in the car.
When we're home playing, I have the npr station on with classical going for her.
I also play bass, and am learning to pick guitar, got a book for kids music. She digs dancing to my horrible playing!
I think (and research backs me) that music exposure is super important for kids, so I try to have something going a lot of the time. She sleeps with the monks singing in the background. Nice monotonous droning almost white noise...

That is great! I sometimes listen to the Classical stuff on NPR but that is more for me than for the kids.

I have turned real soft when it comes to music. I don't listen to the love songs or anything like that. Too mushy and depressing, but I listen to a lot of slower songs.

I really enjoy Classical and bought some CDs to listen too. I am trying to get into the Christian music but find it hard sometimes. I have bought a few CD's. I have Third Day and I listen to them on ocassion.

But I always slip in Led Zeppelin to take me way back from time to time.

I still listen to Metallica and some heavy metal to alternative music plus I love the 80's stuff, hair bands and all. My oldest son likes it as well, sometimes he gets mad when I turn off a good hard rockin's song. He bobs his head to the music and even says "Dad, I want to listen to something that rocks!" Hmmm, wonder where he got that from.

Rock on dads!

BTW, we do listen to the traditional children's music too, don't want to raise some devil worshipers, hehehehe

I'm into most types of music... Country, Jazz, Rock, and big into the 80's retro stuff.

I currently have Coldplay in the CD player, and listen to some Nickelback, Linkin Park, 3 Doors Down, Creed, etc... as far as contemporary rock bands.

Christian Contemporary: Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith.

Country: Brooks and Dunn, Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley.

I can always find time for Sinatra and Harry Conick Jr. too.

When it comes to music, I like lots of stuff, as you can see. :)

Of course, having a teenager in the house keeps me up with the times, and also on my toes as far as what I deem acceptable. LOL

Went to a buddies house this evening as he was brewing up a batch of beer. There's a great thing, finding friends with the same hobbies...
anyway, when I get to go sans child, I drive the car instead of the minivan. Happens to be a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville with a decent sound system. It also just happened that Hendrix was on, and after that, Kenny Wayne Sheppard... man, window down and roarin stereo, it was a hoot!
Don, I agree, rock on, guys
When I'm in the mood for country, only the oldies will do it, Willie Nelson or Jonny Cash or the like

Music is on the stereo all the time here when my son is awake. Really like the electronica / lounge / acid jazz type music.

My father sings and has his own CD out and whenever the kids are awake and I turn on the radio my kids want to hear grandpa singin'...

So we have to listen to that over and over again.

I find that I listen to talk radio all the time now. New jersey 101.5. I have never been a talk radio finatic until now. Maybe because it is the closest thing I can get to adult interaction. Anyhow I love it. We listen to music every once in a while after naptime, and my daughter is such a ham, she loves to watch herself dance!!

For my money, Rush, Iron Maiden, and Soundgarden can't be beat. I like the stuff that has more to it than just screaming and whining about how your girlfriend doesnt want you anymore. Formulaic, corporate, cookie-cutter music just doesnt interest me. And dont get me started on vomit rock. Grab a microphone, stuff it into your mouth, and growl like you are blowing chunks makes me wonder how bad a band must be to NOT put out an album.

Kind of a new age punk if I got the band right

I listen to all types of music except new country. Yes, I listen to Metal, Jazz, Classical, Old Country and my son hears it all. I explain to him what the lyrics mean. I have found that it is a good way to educate him on emotional intelligence. I don't let him listen to any explicit songs with words I don't want him repeating. I see it as a chance to educate him about music without giving up my musical preferences. I think if I did give up my musical preferences it would only shelter him from reality. He is six and understands most lyrics and asks me the meaning of these lyrics all the time. It is a good way to bring up issues I may not normally bring up. It also gets my son to see that I understand more than he thinks and that he can talk to me about anything.
