Well, I was trying to change network authentication from domain to workgroup on my wifes laptop so should could connect to our home network. Now she can't login. I think it's just that she doesn't remember her local password as she typically authenticates through the domain. Right now she can't get back in at all. I'm thinking I can just delete her local password file and it'll prompt her to set up a new one but I don't want to mess it up anymore. Ideas?

Nevermind. She's taking into the local help desk. Boy are my skills rusty. I used to this kind of stuff for a living.

If you were on windows 98, that would be super LOL.
On a machine you dont run the network for, don't EVER take it off of domain authentication. Windows NT and up stores a local hash for her password incase she is off the domain.
If you want to connect it to your local network just have her log in and connect up the cable. If she's on a laptop she most likely has DHCP turned on. That will give her an IP automatically from your network if you have it turned on on the router or adsl/cable modem.

I only know about some of this networking stuff from stumbling through my own network, but if I'm not mistaken, the guy talking about never taking it off domain is right. Even if it's running through a home network, her computer'll still need to locate the Internet on it's own, just through the home network.
What you might want to do, and hope it's not just the XP version, is set up her Home Network again connecting through another computer if it's through your connection or as directly to the Internet if it's through a router.
Should prompt whether you want to make a network disc. Do that and load it on her computer.
After that, go into Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN settings, and then check the Box Automatically Detect Settings and try it then. If that doesn't work immediately, you might need to restart.
That little recipe has helped me out a number of times. Hope it applies to your situation. :)

She's quit and turned in her equipment. All is well.
