I've had it with my $15 umbrella stroller. They are obviously made for people who are about 5 1/2 feet tall. Despite my best efforts, I can't seem to find a reasonably-priced umbrella-type stroller that doesn't have me haunched over and kicking my daughter in the back with each step. I have found what I would call "uber" umbrella strollers with long handles, but they're generally $70-100.
Anyone know a solution or source for a "man-sized" umbrella stroller?

i hear your anguish my man. When we were going to florida the gf considered getting an umbrella stroller. I said why spend the money we have two strollers already. The monster clunky one that came with the car seat and a smaller lighter eddie bower stroller. I said just take the eddie bower and if it gets lost destroyed on the plane then we can get another. Needless to say it survived the trip.
Two weekends ago we went to my sisters for a bbq, we didnt have a stroller in the car and I asked to borrow one of my sisters just so he can sit and possibly pass out. Apparently my sister has like 5 umbrella strollers and two kids... go figure. So they were sayign how they were gonna put one or two in storage, I said we will take one if they wanted to let us borrow. So they gave us one to use while there, but they (sister and brother in law) kept going on about "giving us the blue one".
Foolish mortal.... we get the "blue one" and this thing is a piece of s*&t. it cant turn, its short... its just a PoS. We both want to hurl the stroller in the middle of the highway and gain pleasure watching a mac truck run it over. This weekend at my sons bday we will be sure to give it back. I rather lug the medium bower than use the umbrella. Yes its a bit bigger, yes its a bit heavier... but atleast we can handle it.

Sarge, you're handy, cut the handles and put some extensions in add some color-matched spray paint and zip, bang all done.
Not the most elegant suggestion, but it would solve the problem.
Add umbrella strollers to list with mops and brooms made for 5 footers.

Sounds like you could have fun with a good custom job. Chop the handles on the $15 one and add some "extenders." Get really creative and make the handle lengths adjustible.

Yeah, it is a good excuse to break out my too-little used tools!

I think they design all baby stuff to be for short people. When we bought Simon's dresser, the saleslady was telling us how the changing area was chest height for easy access. My wife stood in front and looked down. It was slightly higher than her waist. My wife's not "that" tall...she's only 5'10". Then I stood beside it and started laughing. Below my waist! We still got it, because it was the best dresser available.
We were going to get an umbrella stroller, but after looking at the length of the handles, we'd both be hunched over doing our best Igor impression. We might get one eventually, but I don't think we really need it for a while.
Instead of extenders, perhaps you can remove the wheels and add longer axles, then get some jacked up wheels. (Make the wheels, say, 3 ft in diameter.) Then you can have the stroller from Hell. You can run over all the ignorant jerks who insist on cutting across in front of your stroller, forcing you to suddenly stop lest you smack their ankles. Sure, it might be harder to fold up, but think of the fun you could have!

I have a Umbrella stroller that I would use for the library and a few other trips, but that is it. I agree most stuff is made for smaller people. I am 6' 3" which in cloths standards is TALL and almost Extra TALL
FYI - 5' 11" is REGULAR
6'-6'4" is TALL
We have two strollers that are a good height for me. A 5K jogging Stroller and my new TRAILER/STROLLER with ADJUSTABLE height for the push bar... ADJUSTABLE!!!!! Imagine that!

  I just love those definitions. What does that make me? Extra-tall? It's as bad as shoes/slippers. My wife once saw a pair of Superman slippers once that she wanted to get me. They went up to XXL...a size 12. I haven't worn a size 12 since I was 11 years old! I'm seeing bad times ahead....Simon is closing in on 3 feet tall, and he's not even 18 months old yet. We were looking at daycares for when I return to work in the fall, and he towered over most of the kids in his age range. The boy is going to be working at age 5 to pay for his own clothing!

You kidding me? At 5'6, this is the first time in my life things are sized for me. I love it, we can pick up any size stroller, and it's easy to use.
I usually walk off to the side when I'm pushing the stroller. Of course, that also avoids clipping the three year old's feet as she helps push too.
Our new wagon works absofreakin'lutely awesome for the kids, though our little rager would disagree if she could stop screaming long enough to speak a few words. (Yeah, some issues here, but I digress)

I am only 5'6" and can't stand up straight when I push our umbrella stroller. Not as bad as others but it is a pain.

yeah at 6'2" 230 lbs. pushing an umbrella stroller is just a recipe for a broken back.
i dont like umbrellas, also, cause there is not space for storage.

I have the Jeep umbrella type that I got from Babies R Us. It is a decent stroller and was 30 or 40 bucks. I am 6'2" and have those same problems. I have never tested the other cheaper versions, but this stoller works well when pushed with one hand. It pushes nice and is easy to control in this fashion. I really don't know if it has longer handles than other versions, but so far it has done the job.
I do like that extension idea though.

Since we have such a wide variety of experience here, we should pool our resources and crank out some products designed by daddies for daddies.
We'd be dangerous! :axe:
IT guys set up the website, graphic dudes do the artwork catalogs, marketing cats do the shameless plugs and press releases, we got a couple engineers to do some design, etc. Any skills we can't bring to the table, I'm sure the wives could fill.
Of course, we'd have to cut Don in for a small percentage :-$ (really small), but we can work around that. :D
Every product would have a built in cooler for a six-pack.

See that, you're not going to get that in a focus group!
Don't forget the video display so we can watch the Cubs lose... :shit:
