Hi all, I love the new forum, this is much better than the old message board. I am going to start out by telling you all about me and my family's situation. Some of this might sound like it is bragging, but I just want to let everyone know how happy I am to be able to be in this situation.
I moved to PA (outside philadelphia) about two years ago from Iowa, I grew up opn a farm, and we were poor farmers, for lack of a better term. I met my fiance on the internet as soon as I got out here, and we dated for quite a while, well eventually we got engaged, and then a few months later she became pregnant, she already had a daughter that was about 6 months old when I met her, so I am Dady to my stepdaughter. Our son was born on december 19th of 2003, but he had complications at birth, "trauma at birth" is what the doctors called it. We brought him home on the 20th without knowing he had any problems, then he started having seizures. My sister in-law was actually feeding him when he had his first (that we know of) seizure. He turned purple, and I mean a dark shade of purple. I grabbed him, laid his stomach on my hand and started slapping him on the back, as he was not breathing. I had no idea what I was doing, just thought that was what I should do. The doctor said I did exactly what I was supposed to do, and that if I did not do that, he most likely would have died. Well, he was in a childrens hospital for the first 3 weeks of his life, and is doing great now. We are finally getting to wein him off of the Phenobarbital, (what a terrible medicine). The neurologist said there wont be any long term affects of this, that the cause of it was a blood vessel rupturing on the left front of his brain during delivery, and that it has all since been absorbed into his brain.
So I am a sahd with a 3 yr old, and a 6 month old, THe hardest but most rewarding job I have ever had.
And finally we got some really good news. My fiance's uncle won the lottery for 30 million dollars, he is 78 yrs old, and not in good health, but still comes to visit alot, he has been so kind to us, has given us as much money as we need so that one of us could stay at home, and is leaving us with alot of money in his will. It just goes to show how much good can come with all the bad things that happen in life. My dad used to tell me that everyone once in their life gets that once in a lifetime chance, and I think that we just got ours!!!
Sorry about the long post, but I just wanted to share my story with all of you, and would love to hear your stories also, I will read this forum everyday at naptime!! HA HA
