This was a bad day for me and because I almost broke my sons neck! I feel like a crapy dad because of it. Here is what happened. I had just gotten Alex all cleaned up and into a fresh diape from a refreshing shower. He was unhappy that his mommy was in the shower and I was taking him downstairs for some dinner. At the top of the stairs I sliped and fell forward all the while seeing my beautiful prodigee sail through the air like a flying squerale to the steps below. It was the worst feeling in the word and thank the lord and good luck that he didn't get seriously injured. I feel sick as I coulden't save him from the fall. It must have been 7+ feet to the bottom of the steps. :( He has a little bruse where he hit the landing but know blood or head trama. Has this type of thing happened to any of you? I feel very old and crappy. The rest of the day was great untill I almost paralized the poor kid.
I am glad that Alex is Ok. I can not imagine how bad you must feel. I know last week when I accidently banged my son's head on the car door frame when I was getting him out of his car seat I felt like crying harder than he did.

Glad the little guy is alright. Take a deep breath before bed, maybe a drink too :)
Once my son, who was a big boy and already once had "nursemaids elbow" from a previous incident with a friend while on vacation, was about to fall down the stairs, as he was falling, I grabbed his arm and yet again he had a case of "nursemaids elbow" which is basically a dislocation at the elbow and actually quite common in toddlers, well that's what the doc said. But I felt like crap and the Doc's probably thought I was beating my kids :???:
Everytime I see parents hold their kids up by the arms, I feel like saying, don't do that :) Especially if your kid is big.

Glad your kid is ok. This seems to be the day for scary stories about how your kid was almost killed, maimed, or disabled. I'm completely freaked out now and need to go have a drink and then sign up for my CPR and EMT refresher courses.

I'm older and crappier, so I certainly feel that part. ;-) That said, I've come pretty close -- I continually injury my right big toe, bending it downward in such a way that has created a tendon injury (reserve of a turf toe). Basically, I drag my foot. It often happens on the steps, and often when I'm carrying the young one -- so I have envisoned the exact scenario that has happened to you. I've not dropped him yet, but I've come might close. Got to wear shoes or sandals around the house, I'm told by my MD friend.
Amazingly, kids at this age heal very quickly. Be thankful, count your blessings, and move on. Near misses happen to everyone, I suspect.

I wasn't watching my son and he slipped on the stairs too. Only got a bloody nose, but beat myself up for a long time afterwards.
Not much will make you feel better right now, and that's ok. Just try to and deal day to day. You're not a bad dad AT ALL, these things happen, and will happen. Heck I've taken pictures of some of the bigger boo boos ;)

My kids have so many bumps... the worst I had is my younger boy decided to jump on me while on bed. He leaped onto me bounced and flew off the bed...
OUCH!!!

That's one thing I worry about often. It goes though my mind everytime I carry him down our front steps, which are hardwood, and have those dang gates bolted to them (which are so easy to trip over). I feel part of my brain watching every step.
You know, he might have had so little injuries *becasue* you let go of him. That way, he just bounced without you landing on top of him. I dunno. At least it all ended up ok, which is all we can hope for.

I tripped while going over a doorway gate once while holding the little one. Luckily I was able to roll and land on my shoulder so all she got was a bumpy ride. To think about all the other possible "what if's" makes me feel sick to my stomach.
And a word about nursemaids elbow, when my oldest was about 2, we were walking in a parking lot and she jumped off a curb while holding hands and popped her elbow, so we took her to the Dr. to have it checked out, then not too long after that my wife and I were walking with her and she was holding both of our hands and decided she wanted to swing by her arms...only she didn't warn us that she was going to do it, so she ended up popping it again...so another trip to the Dr. to have it checked. They had a social worker contact me to evaluate whether or not there was some sort of abuse going on. Of course there wasn't but it still made me quite angry that they would even suspect anything.

I juggled my son Blake at the top of the stairs too. I went to go down the stairs and my foot slipped forward (its actually hard to remember how it all happened). Anyways...my son literally spun out of my arm and did a 360 in the air and as I regained my control as I slipped down the first few stairs I caught him with my arm and the side of my leg. Just as he hit the stairs. I mean I took away alot of the impact of him hitting the stairs by catching him, just before he would have tumbled the rest of the way down the flight of stairs. Worst feeling in the world. I was soooooo scared and upset. It was hurting from my fall and he was screaming like he'd been shot. He was only like 6 months old at the time. Lucky for me he was like a little rag doll and spun around in my arms and was light enough to catch with one arm as I was falling and crapping my pants. Your not alone. I guarentee that you won't walk down your stairs again without being in complete control. Thats how it is for me. Life lesson learned without any major injury. Just a bit of bruising.
