I produce music for film and TV mostly - I recently licensed a couple tunes for an indie film. I spend all my spare time down there (I work full time now). I will be leaving work to be a sahd in December when baby is due. I will obviously not get to spend a lot of time down there for a Loooong while. I am a bit bummed about this - but I guess I'll have to spend most of my time strumming the acoustic and signing lullabyes!! Anyone here with a similar situaition? Cheers.
In the early months they do a quite a bit of napping. I actually played the most when she was really little. She would nap, and I'd plug my headphones in... Worked really well until the naps started getting shorter and fewer!
;)
Now, I don't have a studio, just a bass and a practice amp, and I'd never consider playing for people

i have a nice studio in the basement with Sonic Foundry (acid, soundforge) and i play quite often....besides being a SAHD , i play bass in several bands (covers, mostly)...the extra $$$ are good, plus it's a release...although i look at it much more as a job than i did when i was younger

being a musician, i introduced Diana to music at a very early age...the only way i could get to calm down during her colicky stage was to carry her around singing Peter Gabriel's "Shaking the tree"; then she got a dose of Stevie Wonder...to this day she dances at the first tone of the horn intro of "Sir Duke!"

Stevie Wonder is the shit (his old stuff).
Here are some links to my tunes if anyone is interested.

They are free to download. A couple links don't work as I am revamping a couple of the tunes. Styles range from metal to spanish pop to blues.

i love the funk/world music vibe...the "bounce" is almost preternatural..i think that's why Diana loves it so...she locks in on it like there's no tomorrow...another tune she likes is "I Wish"

Before we moved to a new town, I played a lot of sax in restaraunts and bars. Jazz combos mostly, but would also sit in for blues and rock bands. I miss it a lot, and really need to start making some connections in this new location. I think I really need it. I live in an apartment and practicing the saxophone is... well quite loud.
Would LOVE to have my own basement studio, one of my dreams of life. Will happen some day :)

Aaron, I'm listening to your songs, and really diggin' it. I think they're going in my playlist! (if you don't mind, that is)
Thanks for sharing, and rocking!
I was cruising your site, and am envious. Those meet and greet photos were awesome! By the time I could afford tickets and they came to town, I was no longer um.. free to go see them! I've been a Metallica fan since Jr. High.

Thanks brothers - glad you dig. Of course - download and add to your playlist!
Ya - meeting Metallica was huge. I've been a fanatic for 16 years. They were awesome - very down to earth and friendly. And, believe it or not - the nicest guy was Lars Ulrich. He took the most time with everyone, offered lots of warm smiles and was just very engaging. I was not disappointed meeting my heroes.
Kirk Hammett even signed my wifes panties! What a sport.

Oh, I wish I had a studio of some sort. Always a personal daydream of mine to make music in a studio (I sang in college choruses and the like, played trumpet for years). Grynch, yeah, you have some great tunes there. What a variety you have too (the switch from 'skullduggery' to 'bounceback'... whoa!).
I'm also trying to keep music around Jack all the time. Last night I was driving him home from his grandparents, and he was in a fussy drying mood. Luckily I had my iPod with me, so I found some solid enveloping music, and turned it up loud, and it kept him pretty calm as he listened. I think it was some Joe Satriani, then this OMD-influenced band called The Echoing Green whom I'm listening too a lot nowadays. He's also a fan of doo-wop (Lillian Leach and the Mellows) and Tower of Power.
Anyone else here a fan of eMusic? I've been a subscriber for a couple years now, and get most of my music from them. I don't really even listen to the radio anymore. They focus on indie labels and alternative acts you usually don't get a chance to hear. My latest find (courtesy of my big brother is Ozomatli, a Mexican funk/hip-hop/samba/rock band. Awesome music.

Thanks J' Dad. Glad you dug. My taste in music is so ecclectic - I can't help but have it come thru in my writing. Rock, blues, country, funk, soul, Americana, jazz, world, classical etc etc. I don't care - as long as it's good!
I saw Satriani back in '91. The dude can play.
I hope my little guy responds to music when he shows up!

Both my wife and I have been in a lot of choral groups over the years, and when we are trying to entertain the baby we often slip into vocal exercises ("bah bay bee bow boo", 3rds, 5ths, etc). Jackson thinks it is the funniest thing!
