Folks, I've been hacked at least 5 times today and at least as many over the last two days. Fortunately Kaspersky is blocking it each time but what's making my computer so interesting?

Question: How do you know when you've been hacked?
If you have been hacked, how does one find out who, when, from where?

Do you have a hardware or software firewall?

No hacks today. They seem to be from the same ip address and are the same type of virus description. I beefed up the security measures so if there was a hack attempt he's been blocked for the next 10 days.

go here and run shields up and leak test to test if you have any inbound or outbound ports open to crackers (hackers)
https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
make sure to read the instructions on the leaktest to understand how it works

Perhaps you've got something "calling home" and it enticing folks on the other end to come a looking. Can you run some packet sniffing software to see where stuff is going? Perhaps you're firewall logs things going out?

I run my network on the side of extreme precaution. Run your dedicated interent connection through a router with a firewall and then also install a good virus checker and software based firewall on the pc.

I run a linux firewall router, and it works pretty well for me. It does whatever kind of logging I tell it to. I've been told that the 1-2000 dollar cisco routers don't do anything that a linux box won't. I've never had a chance to play with a Cisco router though; I heard it from an IT guy at Citadel communications.

Here's a page (http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/You-Must-Read-This-Before-Posting-A-Hijackthis-Log-t2852.html) with a great list of freebie stuff you can try to find/remove/stop spyware/adware/trojans/viruses. I've gone down this list a few times with a few different computers and have fixed the problem all but once, and that time I found the solution to ridding myself of a new strain of an old virus posted within a day in another forum on the same site (long before Norton or McAfee updated their virus definitions to counter it).
Oh, and I have both a hardware firewall and software firewall, am very tech. savvy and careful about attachments, etc. and still occasionally get find myself trying to get rid of something new.

Do you have a fixed IP for your internet access?
If it's all from the same IP, you can edit your hosts file to block the IP.
I'd also call your ISP and let them know what's going on. They may be able to block that IP or give you more info on their end.
Good luck!
PS: Stop surfing so much porn!;) :D
