Jilly has been on a "I can do it myself" kick for quite awhile now, especially when it comes to getting dressed and picking he rown clothes out. I didn't care, independence is a good thing, but after a few months of her wearing things like pink shorts with a green and blue checkered shirt, I got sick of the looks from mothers, the looks that said "you can't even dress your kid". So I decided to do something about it, while letting her keep her independence, I explained to her that when you pick out clothes you want to try and pick shirts and shorts that are the same color. I didn't expect that it would turn on me and now she can only wear shirts and shorts that are exactly the same color. So I went with it, but then one day I was trying to get her to put on a white shirt with bluejean shorts, she refused saying they didn't match, so I said white matches everything. A week or so later she picks out a white shirt and shorts and teal green socks up to her knees. I laughed and said they don't match, her reply "remember dad, you said white matches everything" :-#

ONe tip I remember is to give them a choice between item A or item B, it limits but still allows freedom of choice.

We've been doing the same thing with both boys, but the last week or so all they want to wear is a diaper for {Shawn} and PULLUP for {Alex} plus a t-shirt what can I say it's been 95+ degrees the last few days!

Remember SAO the kids at this age are all litteral in thinking. I still think it is funny that she corrects you and remembers EVERYTHING! :)
