My toddler has recently begun violently resisting diaper changes. This is more than the usual thrashing, wiggling around. He launches into a full fledge temper tantrum, which prevents cleaning him up. He tries to roll away, he kicks & screams. This is bizarre but he actually seems like he could be content being changed once a day! We've tried to initiate toilet training, with no major pressure, but he seems unready to make this step. I change him on the floor now to prevent a possible accident. Help!! Any advise? This is starting to become an exhausting experience! :?

What about presenting him with a toy to play with just before changing him? I change my son on the bathroom floor on a bath mat. There have been times when I've had to take one of my legs and lay it across his chest to mobilize him when he's been wiggling around so I can take care of the mess at the other end!

I'm not there yet, but my brothers boy had to be told a story to during the diaper changing... something completely made up, but you had to ask who he wanted the story to be about, where they should go or what they should do...
I'll also sing songs that Tara knows only with different words, she ends up waiting to see what I'm going to come up with.
Worth a shot? Or have you tried it already?

I usually grab 2 diapers. I put one on my head and act silly while I change my daughter. She has stopped wiggling around and looks up at me and giggles long enough for me to finish the job.

At least your kid keeps the diaper on. Mine has a terrible habit of taking his diaper off when he's had a poop and even manages to get his hands into the contents, thinking its paint. Sorry for losing anyone's appetite! Honestly though try changing him in front of the TV on the floor. That way he can watch a show while you take care of business. Lollipops or small freezies also do wonders....

I am so lucky I guess. I haven't run into any of those problems with any of my 3 kids. whew!

Maybe it's because I haven't taught them how to finger paint yet!

I do not know what is funnier....the poopy painting or the diaper on your head :!: :P

I too had the problem with the "indepence" but I just took my little girl outside, in the backyard and let her run her little buns off. After a couple of hours or so (playing in the hose and such), she was content to wear a diaper again.

I did that for about a week of this she is back in her little routine. This does not help at night, but allowing her to run duing the afternoon usually curbed her "wanting to be naked" to a bare ( )minimum.
