View Full Version : Circumcision

As usual, Louis’s rebel response had me thinking in two minds.

Recently, a soon-to-be mum asked me if I had my son circumcised to look like dad. She knew that I was born in the United States (where during the 1970’s, 85% of newbie’s had Routine Infant Circumcision). Here in Oz, only 10% newborns have RIC.

As you would expect, I checked that my fly was closed. Then I suggested that she do her own homework and make her own choice.

I, like my dad, had RIC. Although I do prefer the look of the ‘Little Fireman’s Hat,’ I found no solid medical evidence at the time to support RIC and let my little bloke go natural.

Thats one thats pretty sensitive... not sure if the pun is intended yet or not. My wife and I talked about it with our first (we waited to find out the s e x until she was born) and with the majority here being shorn including me, I said "yup". Should be like daddy.
Growing up in a different culture where it isn't common might be a bit tougher being different. Where do you put the emphasis, being like dad, or being like everyone else? You probably saved him a lot of grief in school ;)

on a related note, isn't it funny how becoming a parent removes any stigma from conversations? Pretty much anything is open relating to the kids. Things I've had conversations about in restaraunts in retrospect should probably have been left to private!

We don't circumcize our kids...

The only thing I see is a culture difference rather than a medical difference. Orginally circumcision was a covenant made between the Jewish people and God. This no longer applies unless you are Jewish and still believe we have yet to see the Messiah.

Even of we have yeet to see the Messiah, the act of circumsion was for the Jews and not the Gentiles so unless you are Jewish there was never a need to do this.

Both my guys are circumsized. Just like their old man. I did feel sorry for the little guys but no harm no foul.

We did it, partly for religious and partly for cultural (be like daddy) reasons. No big deal. The kid slept through whole thing.

This is one of those topics, like so many baby-related topics, that can get heated quickly. It always bored me how everything baby get politicized. Yet, it's just a personal decision, and to each his own, you know?

... Yet, it's just a personal decision, and to each his own, you know?

Exactly.
Thats one of the downsides about being able to talk about everything, there are soo many issues that people feel so strongly about.

Therein lies one of the reasons I refuse to converse about politics or religion unless I already know the person I'm talking to and how they converse, if that makes sense.
I don't like discussions that end up with "you're stupid" in some form or another.

Hey Tony, move your 'stupid' head, I'm trying to have a battle of wits with an unarmed 'mon.'

The world is a comedy to those that think...a tragedy to those that feel!

I had to dig out the dictionary for that one. (well... online anyway)

misogynistic: Of or characterized by a hatred of women.

quisling: A traitor who serves as the puppet of the enemy occupying his or her country.

Still need help with a few others, but won't stoop to actually demonstrating any more of my ignorance!

Thanks Tony...I was in the dark too...I was trying to shed some light on the subject by flipping through my son's 'Sesame Street Dictionary.'

That's right, I remember reading about how the 'public' internet came years after the Govt had it online...

I dip in Lit before swim in Science...

Interesting too, that Galileo died the same year Isaac Newton was born 1642...

Whew, something I can understand! :D

Reading Dickens A Tale of Two Cities now, never got through it in high school, figured I could use the brain boost.

tt I too had read 'Huck Finn,' for the same reason, again; however,
I will quite happily fail, to read another Geoffrey Chaucer tale!

Mark Twain was born the year of the comet...

He also died the year it came back through...

Can anybody tell me which comet that was?

Since Robert Duvall piloted his rocket and WMD into Shoemaker-Levy in the movie 'Deep Impact'

(Which actually vaporized into Jupiter during the 1990's?)...

I'm going for Halley's Comet, Rem...I'm not sure about it's stage dates but I know it appears every 75 years...which puts it at around Sammy's age at time of death...

Louis...our Julsie created la' sci-fi genre...

I like a salty 'tail' and enjoyed 20,000 Mermaids "Unndderrr da Seeaaa."..Thank you Sebastian...

Dadaland...glad to see your silk touch back...

What choice did you make for your son Noah and why? I suspect Canada like Oz (and most countries of the Commonwealth) would have a low rate of RIC...

You ever going to figure out the avatar thing?
Don't be scared...I'm sure Noah gets his good looks from momma...

when I was born most people circumsized their kids Walpole, nowadays lots of folks are leaving the Dickens au natural. personally I'd say leave it as is and let the kid grow up and decide what he wants to do with his own Jules.

luckily Izzy was a she and we didn't have to decide Twain one or the other.

at the in-laws in the beautiful silver valley of Idaho. home to a rich mining history and heavy metal laden drinking water. makes for some strong brews and even stronger broads.

No, nothing wrong with the turtle neck

In the winter the turtle neck keeps Richard warm

But Richard likes to wear his helmet when he goes caving. It helps him when entering those dark damp caves.

spelunking.

it's actually a real word,... well done guest!

When you're done exploring
how about coming out of the cave
and signing up, mate?
