Hi,

Guess I'm a little late getting her :D
I've been an at home dad for about 6 years now and that time you all know is coming has finally come to me.

I need to go back to work. We had always planned that I should return to full time work when my kids where in school full time. (which they are as of this year) and I was all set to begin a job search.
But the universerse had other plans (as it so often does) . Three weeks after the kids started school my wife was laid off from her job.

What was a liesurely endevour is now a matter of urgency. Mostly because we need to get someone employed soon so we can avoid paying for COBRA.

I NEED HELP! I have a major mental block here.

I'm trying to write a cover letter to go with my resume that will put the best face on my long period of unemployment. ( I know I wasn't really unemployed and you know it but the guy behind the desk may have a different view) I'm really stuck, I could use any advice (or actual examples of real letters - or even a sentence or two to get me started or perhaps some resources you know of on the web ) that you could offer.

Thanks,

Weston

The only thing I would know to do is to try to relate your experience as a SAHD with the working world.

What do a lot of employers look for in an employee?

Dedication to their work
Reliability (few sick days)
An ability to multitask
...and depending on the type of work- being able to budjet well

I'm sure there's many more things that you've probably done in the last 6 years that would translate into being a desirable employee

I guess the hard part would be relaying these abstract ideas into a concrete cover letter. You probably have already thought of all these things but I hope I've helped you a little bit.

Good luck in your transition to the "other side"! :D

Thanks, I'm still working on the cover letter. I just need to get a few solid answers I can have ready for the inevitiable questions during the interview.

Been up all night (well 4 hours of sleep) so my brain is about fried right now. Any specific suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
