How many of the books you read to your kid were read to you as as child. I read the following to Shawn & Alex:

-Charlotte's Webb
-Clifford The Big Red Dog
-The Velvetain Rabbit {Shawn's favorite as of this month}
-Are you My Mother

These are definitely classics!!

Horton hears a Hoo! My friend always refers to this as "Horton Hires A Ho." He's not a very nice man... [-X

we have tons of books, I'm a bit of a book hoarder, so I've started hoarding for the kids as well :roll: My mom didn't read to us though, so there are none that are being passed down, but a few of the ones I liked as a child that I read myself or heard at school I pass on, Where the Wild Things Are was one of my favorites. I had never read or heard any Suess as a child (awful isn't it) and I started getting a few and really liked the longer stories like Mulberry Street, The Lorax, Yertle the Turtle et cetera and we read those quite abit. The wifes mom saved all her little golden books so we read those, and misc. others. We've started to get into fairy tales as I picked up a book of fairy tales as the book store, they are her favorite right now, and I have to admit I hadn't heard of most of those, except in maybe a general sort of way, and since we're talking about books, WTF is the point of Rumplestiltskin, I don't get it :confused:

My parents saved all those books, so the ones I'm reading to my kid are THE actual books they read to me!

Even got the little scribbles and crayon marks I added as a kid. :D

Damn, now every time I pick up "Horton hires a Ho" my kids are gonna ask why I'm laughing.

We have some of the actual books too, brings back vague memories. My wife had "Cat in the Hat", "Ping", from childhood, I have some Christmas ones like "Mr Willoughby's Christmas Tree" (great book), "Twas the Night before Christmas" and a few others.

I don't think I read Dr. Suess as a kid either, not sure why. The rhyming in them really helped our oldest excel in reading I think, and fun for me to read too.

So far, only Goodnight Moon and The Very Hungry Caterpillar but I hope to incorporate some of Richard Scarry's work and Dr. Seuss of course as he gets older.
