Anyone had one or planning to have one? My wife and I are discussing. Wondering if anyone has had it and wanted to share their thoughts on having it done :?:

You may not want to hear what I have to say. I wouldn't get anything down their clipped.

They say they can reverse it so you can have kids again these days so it isn't like it would be permanent. But there are mistakes and some people have not been able to have kids ever again because of it.

But personally, no sharp objects within 3 feet of family jewels.

My friend had one very recently. He said it was really wierd, they didn't put up a screen or anything, he could have helped the doc if he wanted too. It was a local anesthetic so it didn't "hurt" but he said he could feel everything that was going on, especially with the second one.
And two weeks later he was still aching, in his words, like someone kicked him.
Even with all that info, we're also considering. I think it just depends on how the second child goes. We're pretty sure two is it...

Been there done that! Now let me start of by saying.....If you wish to have no more kids and you are certain, be a man and step up!

Here we go.......

Yes, local is what they give you, but what some do not know, is they apply the local by needle into EACH scrotum. Yes folks...EACH ONE and there is about 5 minutes in between time.

And as stated, you can basically sit and help! You will sit on a nice little, square, metal plate that is attacked to a cotter. That is to ensure you are grounded. Though I asked questions, one came to mind....W H Y do I need to be grounded :?:

Moving on....After you have been cleaned and have been localized, the converstation becomes light and the doctor has a great sense of humor about it.

He make his incession and pulls out your main vein for the right. Cuts, cotters, and ties off both ends. You can feel the pulling and movement of the vein but no pain.

He then continues his work on the left side. Done in 10 minutes or less. Of course being uncomforatable in the situation, I told the doctor, "good thing you do not get paid by the hour". Laughs all around.

The doctor then takes the support that you bring and puts an ice bag in there for you. Show you how you SHOULD wear it and you are gone after you get your prescription. And I did not forget about the stiching of the two cuts he made. They want to leave them open for drainage.

NO PAIN at this point. Now...after the local wears off, you feel like you have been kicked repeatily in the groin. Thank god for the meds.

I all I can say is that you will become friends with your ice..close friends. Ensure that your kids STAY off of daddy for 2 days.

Days afterwards it felt a little tender, but nothing too bad. It took about a total of a week and a half to completly be healed, sealed, and ready to go!

Would I do it again....yes, better me (outpatient) than the wife...which would be a major surgery.

It does not make you any less of a man and your sex drive is a little better. Especially when you tell you wife what you have done for her and the family....

My brother just had the procedure done last Friday. He's back at work today, and says its "not too bad". Aparently it went better then he thought...
Although I don't know if he'd appreciate me telling everyone

I am still a little uneasy about someone messng with my jewels, I did hear that your s*x drive could go up. I dont know if I want mine to go up, as I would do it all the time if my wife would allow, but she gets tired to much and is always chasing me off :axe: But I am still considering it, we talk about it every once in a while.

I think it is the least I could do since she went through labor for me.

I hate to butt into peoples personal lives so I am not gonna say too much on this topic.

I love kids and you are all gonna think I am not too far from the funny farm but I want to stay home and raise as many kids as my wife can pop out. I see so much in human life that if I ever knew my parents did things to prevent me from living I would be sad. I know nobody will ever know but I think it is the principle I am looking at.

I hope to have 12 kids some day (or more)....

If so, I will be writing a book about a stay at home dad that raised these kids and had them all born at home. :D

Wow, you are a better man than me. I am not sure about twelve kids, but two is good. I think all parents should have two kids at least. People with one kid have it to easy. When something is broke they know who did it. With two involved you have to use alot more judgement. And it is neat seeing how two kids being broght up in the same environment can be so different.

I had mine done about 3 years ago and while we had a few problems with the procedure at first(nothing bad) all in all it wasnt bad. I too would have loved to keep having kids, but we decided to only have as many as we can afford so we stopped at four.
A few things to consider:

1. Be sure of this decision before doing it. Even if you change your mind and have it reversed(vasovasostomy) there is no guarantee that you can father children again, at least without invitro or some other costly measure. Your body can produce sperm antibodies (http://www.vasectomyreversal.net/sperm-antibodies.htm) that make it hard or even impossible to do it on your own.

2. O.k I looked for an hour but couldnt find the exact percentages but in the literature I got from the doc It said that alot more women have problems from a tubal ligation then men do from a vasectomy, later in life. ie hysterectomy vs prostate cancer.

3. The doctor might slip and cut your wiener off.

just kidding

The best sight I've found on the subject is vasectomy.com (http://www.vasectomy.com)

good luck

I went to help my family cut down some trees off of my uncle's new lot. My uncle had the hedge trimmers. And started clipping down large bushes.

We started talking about the 4th child on the way and my uncle looked at me with those clippers and said, "Steve, come here we need to have a little chat."

Knowing that he had a vasectomy I ran the other way.

My wife and I have discussed it. I just don't feel comfortable with.
No I am not afraid of intrusion into my groing, at least not after that episode involving a zipper and my scrotum back when I was eight. My problem has to do with not being able to have children.
Call me childish but I have a problem with the idea of not being veril anymore. Maybe it's a macho things, probably the only one I posses. Is like having a car that reads 200 mph in the speedometer. You will probably not ever drive that fast but is good to know that is there. I will probably not want to have any more children, heck on those hard days I've even joked making sure eva is single child myself. (See Nip Tuck's first season for most information) But like I say, is nice just to know is there. 8)

I hear ya! Me getting it done was more my choice than the wifes. 1 child was enough for. Then #2 came... :? That was when I decided...THAT IS THAT!

And after getting snipped...I ONLY gained about 5 extra pounds!

Reviving an OLD thread here. Just got mine yesterday. Wasn't too bad, but it was definitely scary, and you need to make sure you have enough local anesthesia!! The shots wore off on the ride home and the pain was starting to become unbearable. took 2 painkillers and iced them up right when I got home and here I sit, still have frozen peas on my nuts and feeling alright. Anybody else have any stories about it? Any noticeable side effects that any of you are having?

5 year old thread! Wow. I had no issues with my procedure. Lots of ice and stay off your feet as much as possible. I was playing golf 3 days later. And if I remember correctly 2 weeks of shutdown for your "love log".

I need to get mine. i am in no hurry. I dread having the junk out as they shave it and poke and prod me. Not too fun sounding. The pain is another thing. I envy you who have wives who got the tubes tied.

I've been snipped and I had no complications cept the pain lingered for a week.

The fun part was that they didn't shave you at this Dr's office, so the wife had to help me at home. Now that's trust :)

Since then, sex has been awesome, so no complaints here.

If I could do it over again, I probably wouldn't. Mine didn't go all that smoothly (although 2nd Time Around had the real horror show) and one of my boys still doesn't feel quite right a couple of years later.

It is nice to be able to swim any time you want without a wetsuit, though.

Damn, I hate to hear that yous didn't go well. Mine went fine (so far). I am really enjoying the laying in bed and not having the responsibility of our 3 kids for a few days. Almost worth it by itself!! So I was gonna ask when the the little guy can play again, 2 weeks? That's a looooong time. I have never gone that long without ... well, ya know, making myself feel loved by me.. ahhh!! is it even possible?

Had mine about six months ago. No big deal. One day of painkillers and peas, a few days with just painkillers. Bruising, but it went away. All is well. There are no more swimmers in the pool - AND IF I CAN OFFER ANY ADVICE, IT'S DON'T GO SWIMMING WITHOUT A WETSUIT UNTIL YOUR POOL HAS BEEN CHECKED BY THE DOCTOR. BE SURE THERE ARE NO SWIMMERS. TOOK A LITTLE MORE THAN THREE MONTHS FOR ME. SO BE SURE!!

I had mine about two years ago.
No problems or issues since. Everything works great.:icon_lol:

"SAHF" did a great job of explaining procedure on first page of post.
Procedure pretty laid back, once you get through the initial shots. ouch!
I just toughed it out..and let the drugs go to work.

Felt like i was kicked in the $&$%#% for about a week or two. After that..all good. My biggest concern was my cycling. I'm quite active cyclist and was a littled worried about long term affects. But i was back in the saddle in about two weeks...just a little cautious for first month. all good now.

Everything works just as before..no better..no worse.

FOLLOW DR'S ORDERS!!!
Come home, ice, drugs, lots of tv. I had mine on a Friday and was back at work on Monday.(Desk job.) Although i was walking a little slow for the first week. :eusa_whistle:

Decision was pretty easy for us. We have two healthy beautifull boys. My wife had to have two emergency c-sections due to complications on both kids and the second time she was in and out of the hospital. We were happy with the size of our family and after she had already gone through, a quick snip-snip was ok with me.

I thought that i was the only one, until i mentioned having a Vasect., then everyone i knew stood up and said, yea had mine about a year ago... I dont know of anyone that has had complications so far.

Hope that helps.

Ditto on Neodaddy comments...
My Dr. gave me three jars and paper bags. very discreet.
He asked for a one month test, 6 month test and one year test.
I did one month and 6 month, both came back clear...just forgot about the one year. I found the jar about 6 months ago..oops!:eusa_whistle:

I just walked in, dropped off,(they know what the bags are for) and went back to work/home. Usually within a couple/few hours someone called and said that everything was clear..no swimmers.

Thanks for the reply on the afterpain. I am on day 3 and it still hurts like hell. Obviously not as bad as the first couple days, but it still feels like a good whack to the nuts whenever I get up. I have no TV in my room, so it's all internet, and since the little guy is out of commission for a few more days, that limits the websites I can go to.. :dumb: ok, bad joke. Pain killers are getting to me.

So far no complications for me either (except the lingering pain). No real bruising, no blood, just a small puncture wound. My wife is getting a little tired of my laying around doing nothing, but there's no solution to that right now.. :chugchug:

Leodada

Well it's been about 3.5 weeks after the surgery and it feels fine, except when I run or stand up really fast. Also, it's tender to mild contact, like if my kids run into me for a hug or something similar. I am a little nervous that this pain won't go away, but I have also heard that it can take some time to heal up completely. Did anybody have lingering pain for a month+?

I have been considering this procedure, at least up until I read this thread...

I don't trust my wife to take the pill on time or insert the IUD when she is supposed and forget about the old wrap.

Looks like a continued steady diet of abstinence and porn for me. until I find an amicable solution.

It hurt like hell for like 2 seconds and then done. We have 3 boys, wife has health issues with having any more and the deal was if she had a C0section she would get tit done, if not I would get it done....

No big deal...

I had it done 2 years ago. It was the most fun I had since being born. It really wasn't that bad. In fact my wife told me it wasn't bad at all. I'm still trying to figure out how she would know. I followed the docs orders to a "T", taking it easy and keeping it iced down for a day. My sweet queen tells me I milked the hell out of it! She wanted me to move a couch and the refigerator and do some jumping jacks.

Hey, its not exactly a "good time", but not that bad either.
As long as you know what to expect, take your meds and rest as instructed by the dr. it's all better in a week or so.

I had mine on a friday morning, back at work on monday.

Funny thing is, i thought i was the only one that had this done.
Once i mentioned it to a buddy, he informs me that he had one a year before, and joe had one and buddy had one...etc..etc..etc..

Very common procedure, i would just talk to a few people, and find a good experienced dr.

Good luck!

I had one done about a year and a half ago. No regrets.

If you're not planning on having any more kids, it's definitely the way to go. No more worries about accidents that can cost a lot of time and money over an 18 year period!
