I thought we could start a topic about the pets we keep with our kids. We have alot of fish. 1 cat we adopted from the spca, we couldnt think of a good name for him, so we call him "cat". And last but not least we have a dog. He is a "Cane Corso". It is a new breed to the untied states, only brought over from Italy in the late 80's. They are beautiful, but very expensive dogs. Right now he weighs 102 lbs, and is a year and a half old. He is so good with the kids, My three yr old jumps all over him, and he just lays there and takes it. It is so funny to watch her dress him up.

I would love a dog but I am afraid that it would cause to many problems currently. We do have 3 cats which are naughty and annoying!

We have one cat for each of our kids. We found out we are having another child but there is no way we are getting another cat. I say we start eliminating them.

I'm with you Remington!
We have some fish (see hobbies for a pic), a dog and a cat. Actually, my wife has the cat. I refuse to even take ownership of that animal. Even though I'm the one that has to clean up after it.
That cat sprayed my work bag and my favorite flannel.
It also thinks its funny to eat a ton the come upstairs and show everyone on the carpet.
I'm not much of a cat person

Cats are really annoying. The problem is my wife is a Vet and she gets strays that come in or she sees pregnant cats, and is the first to get the news that they are gonna give them away. She like gets first choice on the kittens in the litter.

So she is always asking me if she can bring them home. NOPE!!!

I am the one that has to feed the damn things all day long and change out the stinky cat litter. Now I toss them outside and it is a little better. But this winter I was changing litter every other day.

Smelly!

Litter duty is about the worst thing in my weekly chores. Yeah, I know its unsafe for kitty litter to stay around, but I absolutely detest doing that. The crappy thing is that cat has probably another 10 years in it! We sank a big chunk of money in dental work to keep it alive a few years ago.
gotta love it :?

Pets...

We lost our sheppard when my son was just about a year old and the wife does not want another pet. Her reasoning is that we have enough with the 2 kids.

I agree to a point, but I believe that every kid should have a dog. I think her true feelings is that she is scared. We had our sheppard, Bear-Con for about 7 years before he died.

I am going to wait until the kids are a little older and start doing more chores around the house, the BAM...new dog! Son will be old enough to clean up some POOP! PAY BACK!!

Yeah, I hope our pooch lives long enough for Tara and her little sib to enjoy (and pick up after).
Oh, I forgot one other thing I dislike about our cat. He thinks its fun to meow right next to my sleeping daughters door at 4:30 in the morning... he's successfully woken her up on a number of occasions.
he's also successfully flown

I knew they were good for something! Not a big cat lover!

Don't get me started on my cats. Cats are cool if they aren't yours. Then once you have to take care of them you want to have a little target practice with the old 30-30.

I grew up on a farm in southern Iowa, and I once told my wife that we used to target practice on wild cats with our Bows. She was appalled, I tried to explain how many wild cats there were running around in the country, and that they were a nuisance, but she would not hear of it. I would never do that to a pet cat, just the wild ones that would tear up our trash, have kittens under our porch, they were born wild, and will always be wild. Just like a population control. She has always lived in the suburbs, so I guess she may not ever understand.

I've got two black Labradors. They're great with the baby. Before she came home, we would bring blankets that she had been wrapped in so the dogs could get familiar with her. They love her.

The smaller of the dogs love to chase things. I could loan her to anyone with cats needing to be run off.

I haven't seen one of my cats since Friday morning!

Could I be that lucky? Actually my daughter keeps asking about her so I feel kind of bad. She was in heat so maybe she is out having a wild party somewhere for a few days. But, I am afraid she is long gone.

Sorry to hear that... I think...
One of the risks of letting cats out. Never understood people who get suprised when something happens to an animal they let run.
I've got a buddy who lets his hunting dog run on his land but he freely admits its only a matter of time before she gets hit.
Don't take offense please, its a discussion I've had with countless cat owners who are friends. (I'd never bring it up to, say, our neighbors  ) Not looking to offend anyone

I never liked my 3 cats since I got them. They were cute at first but they are really a pain. I do feel bad for my daughter but I think she is getting over it now. We still have the other 2 cats to beat on. :D

If it were a dog I might feel a little different.

We've got friends who have 3 cats and all the cats stay inside. The carpet is shredded, the chairs are shredded, and the cats are OH SO FRIENDLY. One of them bites, one of them runs away when people are around (including the owners), and the other is so dumb it walks into walls.

My wife used to have a rabbit. He behaved more like a dog. He would beg for food, knew where the Cheerios were stored, and liked to sleep curled up on your lap. He also liked to get busy with her volleyball. I dont know if you've ever seen an amourous rabbit try to put the moves on a volleyball but its hilarious! Of course, you'll be wanting a different volleyball for your next game.
