Not that you noticed I was gone, hehehe!
Back online and into the new house, Pics to follow in the next few days. We are still unpacking boxes and had a plumbing problem already. arghhh, it is a brand new house but somehow lots of rocks made their way intot he sewage pipe that goes to the public sewer. not fun, toilets backing up and pipes leaking, even some sewage washed up into a tub. Luckily the plumbers were nice or I would have been really pissed. They had to come back again yesterday for a small problem.
I did invest in the new "enhanced" road runner service. Nice speeds so far, almost 4meg downloads and 400k uploads. :D That I like and a wireless router/wireless pcmia card for my laptop comes with the package.
More updates to come...

Glad things are going well. Can't wait to see some pics of the new place...
Roadrunner... ok now I am envious... :D
Congarats, glad to hear its going ok, 'ceptin that little plumbing issue. I think I might come unhinged presented with those challenges. Remember to keep your router stuff pworded and all that, don't want Jimmy Joe three doors down swiping your signal! ;)

Moving did suck. I did all the small stuff and boxes myself, so that was about 80% of the move. I used the old minivan, popped out all the seats and took a ton of trips. We moved about 6 miles north of our old place so it was not a bad drive. I had help with the big stuff and it was an exhausting process. Still tons of boxes to unpack and work on the PC to catch up on. No rest for the wicked!

Don't envy you having to move.
Isn't it amazing how a "new" house can have so many problems.
When we moved into our new house 5 years ago we had problems to. All the inspections had been signed off, but when I went around turning light switches on and putting my tester into outlets I discovered that a couple of the circuits hadn't been completed. I think the electrical inspector had done a drive-by inspection!
Anyway, good luck on your new home and enjoy!
(and watch out for the sewer problem) :toimonster:
Welcome home Don...
Are you sure those were rocks in the sewer pipe?...
I've heard about your homemade meatballs...
Enjoy your new bird...'Beep' 'Beep'

Our last house, we had the same thing: backed up sewer within the first month. Turned out that the previous owners did a ton of remodeling, but never covered the toilets and drains, so the sewer was full of drywall and plaster and sawdust.
Man, aren't new houses fun? I grew up in an old beat up farm house, that my Dad and us kept help together with duct tape and spit. So I was psyched when my wife and I moved into our new home this March, which is only 12 years old. But within the first few months, we've had one a/c unit go (leaking from the attic down to the ground floor), and the boiler blow. That plus tons of other maintenance the previous owners ignored for years. Fun!

Yeah, new houses are fun, if they did not come with headaches, hehe!
I grew up in an older house that I am suprised did not just collapse. My father just reparied it some cause one of the main beams finally was sagging so low they had to repair it or the house would have fallen down.

When I complained about the work I had to do on our new place, my Dad reminded me of the work he had on that old farm house when we first moved in. The basement was a leaking mess (the previous owners just poured concrete over the original dirt floor), the septic system went, we were on well water (that was nasty), it was infested with wasps, etc. Wow - the work he had to do (and with three kids around). Made me remember how lucky we actually are.

I hear ya, I feel very fortunate. We used to heat by wood all winter, so the kids always had the chore of loading wood into the garage which was a mess. Wood is ok but sometimes the house smelled of smoke.

Did someone say the dreaded M word?
Due to my wife's job we move on average about every 3 to 5 years, though sometimes more and sometimes less. I have moved twice in 5 years. Not only do we not get to pick what city we move to, but we are also provided with a house, so we don't even get to chose that. We get what they have to provide. I always hate that process. The only guarantee is that we can only be moved within the state of Florida. I love the house and community we are in now, but that is not always the case. I lived in Miami for 2 years in a house that had one empty lot between my house and US 1 (one of the busiest main roads in Miami).
I guess your kids learn how to make new friends, easy.

Either that or they learn to pack fast.
Either that or they learn to pack fast.
Ah...the good old Military days. One thing was for 100% certain, you were going to move in 2-3 years! When I was a kid, it sucked. Now that I am a LITTLE older.... I would love to move once in awhile!
Just the thought of a new location and a new home is something that I like..a change of pace! Of course I have not moved in like 7 years..SO I am going stir crazy!
Congrats Don!!!!!!!!!!!

All the moving is part of what made me a SAHD. It got to be old that I would just start to accrue some vacation and get a raise and then we would be moving so I had to start all over again with a new job. Once my wife was making enough that I didn't have to work it really made life easier.
For our kids, only one of them has been through a move so far. We got the others while we have been at this house. The one who did go through a move didn't really mind, as she was 17 when we got her and was used to moving around a lot through the system. The last few years we have been having an annual camp retreat for Methodist Clergy Kids in Florida so they can all get to know each other better. Who better to have for friends than those who also live a similar life to yours? They also get together for a Memorial Day party, but mine have not made it to that yet.
For me, now that I'm a SAHD, there are times that I actually think it would be nice to move. However, when I'm having a better day, I remember that I love it here. There is something to be said for having a fresh start in a new area, but it does come at the price of losing your friends and leaving a familiar area. The hardest part for us is not having any say as to where in the state we get moved to. The way it works is that my wife and I get called into a meeting with her boss and we get told where we are moving to and how much my wife will be paid. They also give us a general description of the house and community. We get to do one walkthrough of the house about a month before we move in, and don't see it again until moving day. The last house we were at had an 8 person hot tub, but that doesn't happen very often.
I do know that I would love for our next move to be up near the Georgia border. I would appreciate having some cooler weather for a change and to have the chance to get out of the state once in a while. Right now I have to drive about 6 hours just to get out of Florida. We will probably be here another 3 to 5 years, depending on how much the church grows. Another big influence for us will be how well the kids are doing in their school. My oldest son just transfered into a magnet school for the arts. He is in special ed classes, but he just started today learning how to play the violin. So far he loves the school, so it will be hard to take him away from that. My younger son is already a wannabe performer at age 4, so I expect him to shine at the school. He will get in automatically since he has a brother there. They have art, choir, band, strings and keyboard, drama and dance teachers in addition to the normal teachers a school has. It is a K-8 school that was built over the summer and is in it's first year.
Well, since I can't even remember what this post started out as, I must officially be rambling. That either means it's time to go to bed or read some more posts.......
