Rachel has picked up an eye infection that I went through a couple weeks ago. I'd gone to my doctor when I got it, and he was confident I wouldn't pass it on to her. Yeah, right. Baby woke up this morning with her left eye effectively glued shut, and looking like she'd been in a prize fight. I took her in the shower with me, cleaned the junk out of her eye, and put some petroleum jelly on her eyelids (mine were really sore and that was the only thing that helped).

Took her to the doctor this morning and they said it wasn't a viral infection, nor had it spread to her ears or throat. She didn't have a fever either. They gave us Vigamox eye drops to use three times a day.

Anybody have any tips on how to handle this and keep her comfortable? She seems to be doing pretty well, but I thought I'd check in here and see if anyone else has had this experience.

Tara had an infection a year ago or so, from rubbing her eyes with her snotty fingers... anyway, getting the eyedrops in was one of the harder things I've had to do, especially by myself. Got pretty good at it near the end and it turned well. I guess the only advice I can give you probably already know, warm clean damp washcloth works well for keeping the crud down and away from the eyes, and don't cross contaminate.
Good luck
