Hey, does anyone put their own words to songs for your kids? My favorite is her lullaby:
rock-a-bye tara
on daddies lap
when the lids fall
the tara will nap
when she wakes up
playtime will begin
and fun will be had
by tara and dad

Anyone else?

haha! That is pretty good. :D

I am not much of a singer and haven't put much together for my own song lyrics. Let me get my creative juices flowing and see of I can come up with something!

I'm going to have to carry a tape recorder with me because I've come up with some more good ones (in my opinion, for certain) around classic rock tunes.

When she's cranky, my girl can always be settled down with "Frosty the Snowman." Its an old standby.

You talk about getting some funny looks. A tone deaf father chanting (I cant sing at all) "Frosty the snowman, was a jolly happy soul..." when its 90 degrees outside.

I remembered a few more that I butchered for my daughters enjoyment... set to tunes from an unnamed 70's band that I refuse to admit I've heard, much less use

She likes bunnies, so...

Bunny bunny bunny, lots of bunnies, its a rabbit's world....

and

Pooper trouper, someones going to wipe you, come on wipe that pooper pooper trouper someones going to wipe you...

and

pooping queen, she's only 18(months), pooping queen...

oh yeah!

Well, here's the epic tale:

There was a boy named Duncan
Duncan, Duncan, Duncan
He liked to go spelunkin'
Duncan, Duncan, Duncan
He was so big, he was so tall
That in some caves he'd have to crawl
All in all he'd have a ball.
Duncan, Duncan, Duncan

There was a boy named Duncan
Duncan, Duncan, Duncan
He liked to eat Turducken
Duncan, Duncan, Duncan
He liked the chicken.
He liked the turkey.
He wasn't so sure about the duck.
And when his mommy saw him eat it,
she said "What the... HEY!"
Duncan, Duncan, Duncan

He had a cat named Random.
Random, Random, Random.
A name from Amber fandom
Random, Random, Random
He like to claw; he'd often bite.
He'd almost always pick a fight.
I think that cat is not quite right.
Random, Random, Random.

His mommy's name was Deborah.
Deborah, Deborah, Deborah
She bought a lot of zebras.
Deborah, Deborah, Deborah
She was real pretty and very smart.
She'd almost, almost, never fart.
All her friends said she had spark.
Deborah, Deborah, Deborah.

He lived on State Boulevard.
Boulevard, Boulevard, Boulevard
That meant he had a tiny yard.
Boulevard, Boulevard, Boulevard
He lived up the street from the North Side School.
Across the street from the North Side Pool.
That meant his house was really, really cool.
On State
Boulevard, Boulevard, Boulevard

Then there's:

Hello, my name is Duncan
and I am 245 Days old.

I like to eat; I like to play.
My dad stays home with me all day.
My mommy loves me all the way
And that is why I sing:

Hello, my name is Duncan
and I am 245 Days old.

(That changes every day, of course.)

The shortest one is:

Duncan, the Happy Baby,
A little bit wild
And a lot a' bit crazy!

Gotta put two semesters of Conservatory classes to use somehow.

When Simon was a baby, I made up a song to sing whenever I had to change his diaper:

"We're gonna change the baby, we're gonna change the baby, we're gonna change the baby, cause that is what we do. Cause that is what we do, cause that is what we do." Repeat first line.

By the time he was talking, he'd start singing certain words with me: "baby" and "do" were the first two. Later, he'd sing them for me. I could pause, and he'd finish with a big grin on his face. Now, at 4, he'll chant other things to the same tune, like "We're gonna go see Mommy, we're gonna go see Mommy..." whenever we're pulling into the driveway after work/school.

To the tune of Woody Guthrie's Hobo's Lullaby

Go to sleep you weary peanut

Let the towns drift slowly by

Listen to that steel rail hummin

That's peanut's lullaby

I know the mommy cause you trouble

She cause trouble everywhere

But when, you die and go the heaven

You'll find only daddy there

Yes, I sing these in front of my wife to drive her nuts. She hates when I make up words to random songs and then these came out. :eusa_whistle: :dumb:

It is a good thing she thinks I'm funny most of the time.
