When an icon in the menu has a question mark on it, what does that mean? The program will not open and I'm not sure why.

It means trade it in and go back to a PC.
(Sorry, feeling goofy this afternoon.)

It sounds like your shortcut cannot find the program. Use Disk Utility to verify your drive. Have you renamed any folders?

Use the command line to fire it up. If that works, type which appname and repoint your icon to that path. Don't understand why things would have changed though....

Hey Don. Yeah, the question mark means the path to that application is no longer valid. You either moved the application, or deleted it, or upgraded to a new version in a new location. Try using the finder window or a Spotlight search to locate the application on your hard drive. If you can find it, then just drag its icon into the dock. This creates a new, valid path. Then drag the question mark out of the dock. It'll vaporize with a "poof" and that's that.

Yeah, command line, I might know how to do that on a mac. hahahaha! I cold barely use it on a windows box.

Thanks Stretch, I'll have to see if I can find it. I like how easy it can be to unistall a program but I do miss the add/remove programs feature of windows, just nice to see a big list of programs. I have installed some programs on the mac and they never make it into the applications folder.

If you have Mail as an email app open it and check Mail>Preferences.
General pane: Choose your email app in "default email reader" drop down menu; choose Mail or Select.... then you can choose which app you want.
Hope this makes sense.

That makes sense I just don't have that as an option....

I open Mail go to Mail> Preferences and gives me 3 tabs > but none of them have that as an option....It just gives me the email address server settings...

Are you looking under the "general" tab or the "accounts" tab?
You want the "general" tab.
Hope that helps.

Ok, I figured it out. Thanks for the help. It was hidden....I guess I'm still learning this MAC thing..You'd think after a year I'd remember that menus get hidden and lost very easily!
