Anyone else out there a nut like me and kinda likes early mornings? Its very seldom that I wake up before everyone else, but its kind of nice having the quiet time to sip my coffee without interruption...
Ten years ago, I was quoting a coffee mug "if God wanted us to see the sunrise He'd have scheduled it later in the day"

I used to me a morning nut and people would get really annoyed with me. I would always be the first one up. I used to get up at about 4:30am during hunting season.

Now... no way Jose.

Ever since my college years of staying up until 4am and waking up at noon, I can't seem to pull my self out of the slump. It has been 6 or 7 years since then and I haven't felt good getting up that early as I used to. I hate to sound like an old grampa but in the mornings I feel old. Back in the day my frinds and I would go jump in an ice cold river just as the sun would rise. Ever since college and kids I am tuckered out.

But, I do enjoy waking up before the kids and jumping on the computer, reading the news, and sipping on some fresh brewed coffee. :D

When I hear the first stir of kids waking up I feel my stress level begin to rise.

I am up every morning before anyone else, I get up at 5:30 every morning, it is like I have an internal alarm clock. I wake up and start thinking about coffee and the peace and quiet, so I crawl myself out of bed, brew some coffee and grab the paper, I really enjoy sitting at the table sipping my coffee and reading the paper. And every sunday I make a good breakfast for everyone, my daughter is on a pancake kick, so for the last month or so I have been making pancakes for everyone. The world is so peaceful at 5:30 in the morning.

For me, its almost like that sinking feeling in your stomache when your folks caught you doing something you should... kinda funny hearing that first squawk in the morning or after a nap...
Its pretty rare that I manage to get up before everyone else though so I relish it.
Used to be, party through the night then get to the duck blind and sleep it off before dawn! No more o' that either

That reminds me of the time I was hung over and fell asleep against a good sized maple tree. I woke up to 4 doe right in front of me... :D

They never saw me but it was nice waking up to that. Now if I try to drink, the next morning is miserable because i have to be up and going strong first thing.

My first move is towards my shoes. I got to get my shoes on. 8)

You need a place to stay in Raleigh? :)

lol, we are actually going on vacation to N.C. in august. I think the place is called Oak Island. My father in law picked the place out, I have never been there, but it sounds nice. We rented a house on the shore for two weeks. Is oak Island a nice place?

I hate early mornings! Probably because I am a bit of a night owl. Do not drink coffee either. So I have no idea how you derive pleasure from an early morning and coffee.

Wow,
I probably should envy you! I went two days without a few months ago, worst freakin' headache I've ever had... kept pounding and pounding....

After giving up smoking, I'm kinda holding that coffee cup as a lifeline sometimes!
Its been quite a while, but man, ever so often, I swear....

Yea I smoked about a pack a day for about 6 years. Quit cold turkey! It was rough but the coffee mug helped a lot.

I quit cold turkey after for smoking for about 8 yrs, I didnt smoke for 5 years, then one day I had a really bad day, and I bought a pack of cigarettes. I always have a pack of cigarettes now, but I dont smoke alot.
Maybe one or two a day, the pack usually goes stale before I finish it. And When I drink beer, I love to smoke. Nothing better than beer and a cigarette.

Whoo, gotta stop and move on to another topic! Used to be a cup of strong STRONG coffee and a butt to wake up... and chase the hangover away. Huh, I don't miss those days.

Oh, hangover's. I hate hangovers, I havent had a hangover in so long. That is one of the main reasons I dont drink. I really hated the hangovers.

I used to think a beer and a smoke were a great combo, until I started brewing a bit and realized how much it covers up and ruins good flavor and aromas.
Not saying I don't still jones after a few beers though!

Oh man.. if I knew I was headed to a bar or gonna do some drinking i would buy 2 packs. I was a chain smoker when I drank. Plus I would get those that had to ask me for one.

Now I will drink a couple beers and relax. If I have about 2 too many I will begin to crave a smoke...

I enjoy wine and collect bottles of red wine mostly. I spend a lot of time polishing up each bottle and dusting them off.... :D

Since I don't work anymore I get up around 5:30am, make coffee and read the paper for some quiet time alone. I wake the wife around 7am. Leave Nicholaus (6) sleeping as long as he wants since it is summer time and he doesn't have school. I cut up some fruit for my wife to eat on the way to work and I make her a healthy lunch. She is on a diet of Fruit,Protien and yogurt smoothies.
I drink coffee until about noon. I quit smoking and replaced the habbit with more coffee.
Used to drink beer all the time when I was a restaraunt manager. Since then I only drink once a month. I don't get hang overs. I take 2 Bayer with 2 glasses of water before drinking and when I am done drinking I take excedrin with 2 glasses of water. I learned this trick from an old bar customer and it seems to work.
I do crave cigarettes daily so I just drink more coffee and stay busy working out, cleaning and surfing the web. It helps me to forget about smoking.

The excedrin and water trick really does work, I played poker last saturday night, and drank quite a few beers (well 6 is quite a few for me)
I felt a pretty good buzz when I came home (which is right next door, so no driving involved) and I took 2 excedrin and drank water. I woke up feeling fine. Maybe I didnt drink enough to get a hangover, but in either case, I felt really good sunday morning.

Usually if I eat enough before I drink I feel fine. And I make sure if I know I will be drinking I make sure I have drank enough water during the day to keep from getting dehydrated!

Water is key, drink a lot of water. I've found stopping drinking an hour or two before bed and just drinking water has done marvels as well. Lets your mind and body recover a bit before sleeping.
Be careful of pain killers and alcohol, tylonol and advil/ibu mess with the liver pretty bad when mixed with alcohol...
Yeast is also rich in the vitamin B complex, drinking unfiltered beer/homebrew also helps avoid hangovers! No kidding!

Excedrin's got caffiene in it. Thats the special enhancer.
cheers

I have to say that I am loving how all topics get changed on this forum. There have been very few that I have read that have stayed the same through out the conversation. I used to be a morning person, NOW I love nights. I stay up late by my self and enjoy the quiet.

I couldn't have said it better. I hate mornings. I hate coffee. The only way I ever saw the sunrise (before the kid came along) was to stay up all night!

I have to agree too. I get up at 7 to help get my wife get out and get my son off to the bus. Then it is back to sleep till 8:30. Then I need to get my daughter off to school.

But happiness is definately having the house to myself with no noise.

Anymore late nights are better for me, but when I was single I lived on Cape cod for awhile and framed housed on Martha's Vineyard, so every morning I took a boat back to the Vineyard, those were great mornings, drinking coffee, reading a book and just enjoying the ocean before the work day began, I think I kinda miss it :(

I guess we’re a morning family. My wife works pretty early. She’s up before 5:00 and out of the house before 6:00. I’m usually up around 5:30 to see here off, get some coffee and the paper read before the little one gets up.

As far as the hangover thing, the only reliable remedy I could ever find was moderation. Hair of the dog worked well but it just lead to another hangover the following day. Not that I spent most of my twenties researching it or anything.

I few weeks ago I fixed my neighbours water heater. The next day she gave me a (freaking huge!) jug of her home made Italian wine as a thank you. That was some seriously powerful hooch! I only had two glasses, the next morning I woke up with fuzzy tongue.

Amen, Don. To me, "early morning" is around 10 or 11. (Unfortunately, that never seems to happen; I'm usually up by 8:30 with Simon.) And coffee....ugh. Never tasted it, but the smell alone makes me sick.

While I strongly dislike coffee, I really enjoy the smell, especially in the winter. I've been trying for almost 15 years now to get my wife to drink it!

As a general rule my days will likely go MUCH better if I get a serious jump on the day. Up early, catch up on tasks around the house without little ones to referee. Take a short break for coffee and a snack and revel in my early morning accomplishements before the family gets up. With that said, it doesn't happen very often, as I usually stay up too late. However, I did wake up this morning at 2:30am and was wide awake. Did get some stuff done. A bit groggy now but that's what coffee's for!

My wife and I are both NOT morning people. It's hard for her to get out of the door by 8am. I love my morning coffee.

Well i am cursed at being both a night owl and a morning person. I have been surviving for the past two years on roughly 5 hours a night sometimes less. I end up getting my "second wind" at like 8/9pm and i am up until sometimes 3am.

As for coffee my father once gave it to me when i was much much younger and well i hated it then and i don't like it now. I admit like the french vanilla from Dunkin Donuts smells good but that is the extent of it.

When i was working, it was pepsi as the morning drink.

hey sao, was thinking of going to the vineyard sometime, been wanting to get out there for a few years now. Perhaps this summer for a weekend get away.

I finally gave up coffee two weeks ago, and after the first few HELLISH days I'd actually recommend it. I was drinking a pot to a pot and a half a day and feeling tired and like sh!t. After three days without, I'm waking up earlier and staying more alert during the day.
Strange, no?
(Still have decaf once in a while, tea too.)

My morning cup(s) of coffe is one of my great pleasures in life. I just love complex, rich beverages, like coffee, bourbon, wine, etc.

I was reading a sleep expert recently (one for adults) who mentioned that they best way to not be exhausted during the day was to wake up at the same time every day. Doesn't matter when you fall asleep, but get up at the same time so your body can quickly fall into a rhythm. (Did I post this before? If so, sorry for repeating myself.) Since Jack stabilized at a 8-8:30am wake up time, I've been getting up at 7am so that I have some time for a nice breakfast, read the paper, drink some coffee -- you know, be an adult. And I have to say, once I got consistent with that, I've been feeling much better than I used to, back when I could wake up whenever I want.

(Like my younger brother who often sleeps until noon on the weekend. Bum.)

Like Bollux, I am cursed with the night owl/early morning syndrome. I typically get to sleep after 11 (following 30-90 minutes of reading in bed). Most mornings, I am up at 5am to get my morning run in before my wife needs to leave for work. Nathan wakes up by 7am, so I can usually get one cup of coffee in me before the day really begins.

I do find the days when I don't run, I really miss it. I need that time to myself at the beginning of the day to start out right.

Life without coffee would be unthinkable. I never get anything done in the mornings, unless I put on a pot.

I've been up the last 3 mornings by 430 and outside working by 530, gave up caffeinated products about two weeks ago, I miss the one cup walk the dog ritual but am getting more done before the kids get up. My dogs are dragging though by 900 am , dad's laying on the couch by 930-teletubbies cat nap-one eye open. Soon, hopefully a 7 hour nights rest will be part of the routine again, but there's a bird nest in the eave above my son's room, about five feet from his crib, so he gets restless when the chicks start chirping for food, this should be over soon as birds grow fast.

Ugh, mornings. I just thank my lucky stars for the golden 15 minutes of quiet as we watch Elmo's World together.

"Hi everybody, Elmo's so happy to see you! What are yoooouuu thinking about today?"
