Has anyone read his works before? I've not, and the new film There Will Be Blood has me interested in his novel "Oil!". Any thoughts on him?

I started reading The Jungle this past fall but didn't finish it. Only finished the first couple chapters - then the baby came. Always wanted to read it, then saw it on my grandmother's shelf so she let me borrow it.

But I can't offer any real input here....

"the Jungle" was a good book, just don't be eating sausage or other processed meat products while reading it...
