My wife has been cutting my hair now for over 5 years. Got some clippers with different height adjustments along with some scissors which were included. I think the set-up cost around 30 bucks.
Previously I had been paying about 20 dollars after tip everytime I went to get my haircut, which would be every 6 to 8 weeks.
Doing the math.... thats over 600 dollars we've saved so far. Thankfully she does a great job at it and I trust her to cut my hair more than someone at a barber shop. The bad part for her is that she hates doing it :???:

I cut my own hair as well and have been doing it for the last fifteen years or so. But I do happen to be mostly bald since my mid 20s so it is an easy thing for me to do. My son (also named Alex) has got more hair then I do. They say it is because I have an exess of testosterone so that works for me. Also I like the phrase that grass dosent grow on a busy highway. My wife does it on occation too but she would rather be doing something else as well.
yep. number 2 setting on the clippers all the way around.

I’m afraid my professional haircut is something I won’t give up. It’s not so much the cut but the additional work I have done.
I’ve got the one eyebrow thing going on, one big bushy brow that runs straight across my forehead. For a few years now I’ve been getting it waxed. They rip the hair out of the center then shape up and trim the rest. I’m told I don’t look quite so p****d off all the time since I started having it done.
Before I started having it waxed I would tell people I used to have two eyebrows, I had the top one permanently removed.
Yes it hurts! It’s kinda like passing a kidney stone through the bridge of your nose.
As for the lid, I’m sporting George Cloony’s ER look right now.
Wife cut here, too. She kind of enjoys it I think. And thank God I haven't heard "whoops" too loudly...
Ever so often, like once a year, I'll back to my barber, I think its $13 for a cut now.
I trim mine on my own, using a #8 guard. Also use the same guard on my goatee. Sometimes I miss a spot or two, but it beats paying for it.

I get a pro to do it and always will. It is *so* worth the money.
My Dad cut my hair for years as a kid, and man, the teasing I got!

I go to one of those chain places. HeadStart, I am not sure you call them pros. Usually they charge me for a child cut because I have so little hair left. About $10 including tip. They have a punch card, every tenth cut is free.
I have pondered the do-it-yourself but my wife wouldn't want to be bothered with it. In a few years I will be almost totally bald and I can just go Kojack.

Its funny that I started this thread about how my wife cuts my hair and then the next night I got my haircut at "great clips"
was 6 dollars plus tip. My wife was excited that she got a break from cutting my hair, but when I was done she decided that next time she'll cut it :)

My wife cuts my hair as well...only one problem, she does a better job after a few drinks
So when it's time I need a hair cut (like right now) I tell her I need to get her liquired up
I usually do the Great Clips thing too. I have tried to get my wife to cut my hair, but she doesn't trust herself. I (fortunately) still have a full head of hair and am not coordinated enough to cut it myself. I can't justify spending more than $15 or so for a haircut, especially since I wear hats all the time.
Speaking of which, I am WAY overdue for a trim. I had better get one this weekend, otherwise I'll be waiting ANOTHER week. Does anyone have luck taking their kid(s) with them to the barber?

Yes I am very bald like this :D but I dont have to pay for hair cuts nor do I spend time fixing my hair. I figure I have a whole week of free time a year because of it.

But don't you spend time waxing and polishing? ;-)

Have clipped my own hair for about two years now. Love it. When we were kids my dad use to take us to "Gene the butcher" for hair cuts. Don't think I ever fully recovered from those early experiences.
Only problem I've had with the clippers is the time I was in Butte for a hockey tourney and decided to shave my head in the hotel (less mess). The clippers were getting clogged so I took the guard off to clean the blades. Forgot to put it back on and zzzzzzzzz hello big bald patch. Needless to say I had to keep going - took some solid ribbing for that in the locker room next day.
