OK so I finished the paper last week and got it back this week.
I want to thank all who were so kind to participate in the interviews. I got a lot of great stuff from them.
Many of the guys I spoke to asked me to post the paper when I completed it. So here it is (http://www.jgmachineco.com/SAHDpaper.pdf) if you're interested. I got my grade already, so this thing is kind of dead to me. If you like it, and want to post something saying so, please feel free. But if you just want to tell me that it's narrow-minded or bloviating or whatever, don't bother because I know that already. It's my first time writing over ten pages, and this class moved so damn fast that the whole project was a race to just huck something over the finish line and say, "There it's done. Now give me a grade!" :box:
I got an A- on it, btw. I don't know what that says about the paper or my professor. Anyway, it is what it is.

{Links for the ads mentioned in paper can be found here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5fg1ajFGao)(Pizza Hut) and here (http://www.hisside.com/verizon_100kbps.wmv) (Verizon).
The radio ad can be heard here (http://www.vahealth.org/civp/sexualviolence/StopItNow_Track01.mp3).}
My thanks again to all the SAHDs that participated.

Good job SPK. Pretty much nailed our fate.

I do not want to diminish your work or start a broo ha ha here but I have one question. I could be wrong but wasn't Michael Keaton a laid off Aerospace Engineer in Mr. Mom? I remember him playing a part as an automobile engineer in "Gung Ho "(which is a pretty funny movie as well). I know it is pathetic but it is all we SAHD's have. Hey, at least i read the paper right! Maybe we should have a "Mr. Mom" trivia thread.

Looks like SPK did his research. Mr. Mom was an automobile engineer. Wikipedia is a wonderful thing.

Thanks very much for all of the positive feedback.
This post hasn't generated very many views, I don't know if that's because of the content or the sub-forum it's posted in. Perhaps not everyone knows of the "new posts" feature, and of course they aren't checking the "dads who do papers on dads" section that often.

I will say that I got most scr&%ed by the fact that I was planning on basing a major component of the paper on the exclusion sahds suffer on the part of sahms. Well, the general sentiment from EVERY sahd I spoke with said, in effect, either "I get along great with the sahms I know" or "I don't really concern myself with sahms"! Now don't get me wrong, this is really terrific for sahds as a whole; as others have maintained, we are capable of far greater tests of manliness than most, and we are secure and confident in the role we play. However, it did leave me with a shortage of material!!!!!#-o So I did the best I could.

You always gotta have a Plan B. ;)

I think you came here about 4 years too late...We all used to whine about it. Either gave-up trying or stopped caring (easy way out ;)).

I've been meaning to have my wife read it. Maybe she would understand my side of things. At any rate, I enjoyed reading it.

Great paper! I have to say it definitely is a bit depressing but I didn't read anything in it that wasn't true.
