Anyone ever had any experience with one in their home? Either install one or have an existing one they might have opinions about.
I'm thinking of putting one from our house to my wife's office/studio. I haven't done any research yet, but was hoping I'd get some ideas from someone who actually has one or knows something about them.

A while ago I was going to run utilities to our garage, and since I haven't yet, instead, when our last phone was dying, I picked up a two handset with extra charge base package from wally world, so I have caller id, intercom, speaker phone, the whole deal out there. If I answer a call, and its for the wife, I can put them on hold, and transfer the call to the house base or #1 handset, it'll ring there.
My often called repair shop numbers are in that phone, so I don't have to keep schlepping to the house when I'm grubby from working on something.
Pretty slick for $99.

I had a Nutone system in my last house. It was hooked up though the front doorbell as well so if you were out back or in the basement you would be able to hear the bell and talk to people by the front door. . Petty handy and I miss not having it in this house. Saves a lot of yelling for the kids. It had a built in radio as well wich was OK for parties and stuff.

I thought about a cordless phone, but we've got enough cordless gadgets around I figured it would be nice to have something fixed that wouldn't get lost #-o

Do they sell wireless intercom systems? I'd love to have a 2 way option for the wife's office, kitchen and bedrooms. But I'd like something mounted to the walls, not a phone. Wired isn't really an options because getting wires run in our house would be a bitch. We had to go wireless for our 2nd floor thermostat. Let me know if you find anything like that in your search.

Will do C-man. I'll probably end up going with whatever is more "economical" O:)

My mother in law and I installed a Nutone system when they built a new home a couple years ago. It was not too much trouble to install since we could run all the wires before the sheetrock was installed. We also ran all the network cable and phone wires.

From my limited experience. The two types I have used in homes are wired two station only battery powered models or two station wireless. Either way when you hit the call button on one it buzzes the other. The wired just needed two wires between the two. The install is going to be as easy or hard as the wire runs. I got my wired from Radio Shack (no longer available and the wireless from a garage sale).
I also have dealt with party line systems for live production, but that isn't what your looking at here.
