William is eleven and half months old; he’s a power crawler and will be walking any day now.
Over the last two weeks he’s gotten a real independent streak. He’s not satisfied with playing in one room anymore; he’s off exploring all the time. We’ve baby-proofed most of the rooms in the house, the other rooms we now keep the doors closed.
Even when we go out he’ll take off if you don’t watch him; restaurants, shopping malls, other peoples homes. As soon as he hits the floor he’s gone.
Right now he’s off in the master bedroom emptying my sock drawer; again.
Is this common for a boy his age?

Get used ot it :) It gets worse. My first boy was all over and for a while we could not even go out to eat cause he threw food and wanted to be on the run. Boy #2 is almost 18 months and is at the same stage. He loves to run from me at the store, he thinks its the funniest game he has ever played  Who needs a treadmill when you can chase around a toddler?

Alex is now eight months and I would say we are heading for the same thing with him. He likes to travel over most of the house via his walker when he isn't crawling. He will stop and play when he decides something is amusing to him.
Its certainly not limited to boys! Tara was everywhere! You're doing the best thing in my opinion by letting him explore.
Have fun with it!

I just didn’t expect the little guy to get that adventurous that soon. I’m thankful we have a bungalow.

Like tt said, it ain't just boys....We almost changed her name to DORA.
When we were selling our condo, she disappeared for just a few moments while were talking with the potential buyers. Next thing we know, she comes crawling out of the bedroom with her mother's bra in tow.
Of course we had everything hidden while showcasing our place, but she found the dirty laundry, rifled through it, found her prize, and had to show it off to everybody - at the worst possible moment! :D
This is a good age to get some good video of the kid. Pretty soon, you'll be chasing after a walking baby  (ARRRGGGGHHHH!) and won't have time to drag a videocamera around.
