What would you do to get a squirrel out of your wall?

Yesterday I could hear it in the attic and now it is in the wall. I have one place behind the dryer for access. I really don't want to bait it out and have it in the house with the kids or with the dog (think lots of blood).

For the record I could not find anywhere it could have got in.

Do you have roof vents? I would bet that is where they gained access. Or bellow your overhang for your roof in the vents that vent the attic. I used to get them in my last place. Large ones and flying squirrels. Little bastards. They got in a few places. I eventually put up wire and secured the attic. They even were getting in through the attic fan. Little rats.

Anyways get yourself a live trap. Have-a-heart kind and bait it with peanut butter. That will get them. They don't live in your wall continuously. They will be in there and then up to your attic and then to the outside. Once you catch one find yourself a barrel full or water or a stream. You know what to do. Not saying that is what I did, but that is your best option. They will come back. Or drive them down a few miles. I caught numerous ones in my place.

Yeah...up there in the attic. Actually I tried a pellet gun (should have used a .22 with birdshot), and it didn't do too much to help. Those boys are fast. Especially when they know your up there.

Man I dont know. Bait and trap?

Last year my mom had a mommy and 6 baby squirrels in their fireplace. A few had all fallen down to the bottom, a few more still up at the top in a nest. I put on some thick bbq gloves and pulled them out.

Don't need BBQ glove you need BBQ sauce=P~

Grab a live trap and get them, also fix the access place,(ya just agreeing with the previous posts) might call a local animal shelter and see if they have a program for trapping them, they may just do the work for you.

A live trap would work if I had one. I don't really want to go buy one.
It stopped about an hour or two ago, hope it didn't die in the wall. I did see a squirrel outside that looked pretty guilty but I don't think it could climb back up to the attic and then find its way out.

Trust me. They will be back. You have to get up there and put up screen (metal and solid) up enclosing all of your vents. Anywhere the little buggers can get in. It's tough watching for them. At my place it was mostly small ones and they only moved around at night in the outdoors. I tried to watch for them to see where they were coming and going from. Anyways....they will be back. Take care of this NOW. They can cause a fire and plenty of other damage. Shitting in there, ripping stuff apart...especially wire. That is where the fire hazard is. Not worth it. Eliminate the thread. Buy a live trap...they are cheap enough. Borrow one. I have one here, but it's a bit of a drive to MIssouri. Good luck. Take care of this now.

Maybe it is really a mouse?

We had what I thought sounded like a squirrel (man it made a lot of racket in the wall), but I'm pretty sure it was a mouse instead. It scratched away for about a day or so then stopped... the smell went away quickly enough and I'm sure all that is left inside the wall now is a dried up corpse.

If there is one nearby, Harbor Freight has the traps for $20.

A house I lived in years ago was surrounded by squirrels. They were friggen everywhere. They were getting more and more brazen as well. They never made it into my home but a couple of neighbors had some move in. I decided to thin out the heard. I used that trap that Hockeyfan posted and bagged me over 100 of those little buggers. I would take them to a state park some 7 miles away and let them go. The neighbors were quite happy as well. A little peanut butter under the flap trip in that baby worked every time. I found a possum in it one night as well. I also did some dead squirrel re con missions for my in laws office buildings. You have to get them out before they die. The smell is completely rank and lingers for a while after they are long gone.

Ugh, you know, I've been trying to keep my mouth shut here, but frankly, you are deluding yourself with a live trap. One of two things are going to happen with the live trap. 1) the nuisance will come back and be at it again and you will have to do it all over, or 2) the nuisance will be taken so far from its home range that it will die from starvation, be killed by predators because it can't find shelter or killed by others of its kind for invading its territory (yes, even cute squirrels fight for territory.)
Basically, you're killing the thing anyway, better to put it out of its misery quick then slow.
Thats just me, though.
Nice pic Jeff!

Uh....isn't that what I said? If he was a tree hugger type, then bringing to to a new home territory is an option. Maybe no the option I would choose. Especially at 7:00am in the morning when the thing is thrashing around in the trap and waking my ass up. Time for action.

I was just busting your balls. We are both on the same page. I only gave the friendly option for those who don't have the parts do do the "right" thing. Little ground rats.
