Just partitoned and installed...I like it so far. Is it true you don't have to have a antivirus program with Linux?

I've never run one and never had a problem. I've been running Debian for about 9 years. Switched the wife from Windows to Ubuntu about a year ago.

It's not that linux is completely impervious, but virus-makers make them for the most ubiquitous system available - and easiest to infect.

I would grab one just for kicks, thats kind of like saying you don't need it for a Mac, yes it's VERY unlikely you will get a virus but why temp fate, besides it's free, remember your into open source software now :)
Oh ya and CONGRATES!

I had checked out Ubuntu when I did some processor training at my job a couple of years ago, and I really liked the interface.

We ran it on this processor: http://www.atmel.com/products/AVR32/

Best of luck with it!

I forget if it was the "I love you" virus or something else... but I remember in the Purdue IRC chat someone posted that they needed help to get the virus to run on their linux cluster...

The virus was suppose to attack the main MS website and a few others at a set time...

One of these days Ill have to bit the bullet and get use to a *nix type system... right now M$ has me by the balls due to software I am dependent on. I'm leaning blender to start breaking the cycle.

:headset: I dabble with different Linux distro's from time to time with some of my older computers I have lying around. Mepis Linux distro seems to be the friendliest so far as being user friendly and the ease of downloading additional software. Its based on Debian version of linux just like Ubuntu. If you want to check it out heres the link http://www.mepis.org/ It of course is free and the creator of it updates it all the time and has a pretty informative friendly forum.

I remember just a few years ago the "gung ho" linux programmers wouldn't even hardly talk to the average person if you had a linux question and weren't friendly at all. But alot has changed in the linux world, especially since it left it's command line only interface to the GUI ( Graphic User Interface) like Microsofts windows. The best thing that ever happened to Linux in my opinion.

PS- I also enjoy Fedora Core as well which is Red Hats open source project.:headset:
