Good for you. I can not stand it. It is August and 98 deg. outside and football has taken over sports for the last 2 weeks. No other sport in the world get scrutinized as much as the NFL and for what? 13 minutes of action a week maybe? And as for Farve, I would love to see him get sacked on the very first play and see him get carted off the field. I do not think all the players have gotten to camp yet and people are predicting season records for teams ALONG WITH THE SCORES OF THE GAMES!! Enough already. I know I am probably in the minority here.

Boo. This is a great season. Love watching football on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday baby. I usually have other interests in the games. As for Brett. I hope he gets traded within the division and whacks the PACK. That would be great. IF GOD wants to come play for you, then you say "Yes SIR" and continue to bow down before him.

WE are in the minority. I can't stand the NFL. Everyone is an expert these days. ANALYZE, CRITICIZE, GLAMORIZE. Shut the f*ck up and play some football for crying out loud.

Glad to be in good company Cubby. Any sport that is dictated by a clock is a friggen joke. The only reason to be at a football game IMO is either to be playing in it or betting on it.

Did you say...and I quote "good company"? LOL. Anyways, betting is not legal Mark. Hockey is run by a clock and you like that. I admit there is ALOT of down-time in football with little time actually spent playing the game. Can be fun though. Especially when you do fantasy teams. It's also an excuse to eat nachos and drink beer. Not that one is needed.

Dont get me wrong, I love football. I just hate the circus that is the NFL. I enjoy NCAA football much better. (and yes, we had this discussion last year, and no I dont feel like getting into it again!).
As for the NFL, I only tune in for the highlights (still great to watch the athleticism of top tier athletes) and also for Bears games as an excuse to get-together with friends and drink beer.

I too like watching NCAA football too. GO WOLFPACK. I would love to see Appalachian State against a big boy this season too. Good stuff. Our team has sucked for years, since Philip Rivers left. Then Mario Williams. Oh well. Always fun to go to the games.

I don't think those two sentences go together.

What...you pull for Davidson? Or Charlotte? LOL. At least we are somewhat legitimate. Not as of late though:icon_mad:. I bed your a closet State fan. Unless your part of that wonderful program that is Carolina. Hee hee hee. I know an assistant coach over there. They still suck. Duke...even worse.

Yes! I LOVE football season. Part of being a Colts fan is the requirement to hate the Patriots/Brady. The Pats have such an easy season coming up, only 4 of their opponents had a winning season last year, luckily Indy is one of them.
What really sucks though is we still have such a long list of injured players. Have faith though, Dungy knows what the hell he's doing and everything will be alright.

Go Jets!
going to all the home games...good thing gas prices are coming down a bit, as it's 2.5hrs each way.

Hockey is run by a clock and you like that.
Hockey is timed but each team has a chance to get the puck because it is live. Even in basketball you can foul a player to get the ball back. In football the ball sits on the ground for more than half the game without the ability to change possession. The whole sport is designed around commercials. "Here goes the opening kick off! He returns it 5 yards. Lets go to a commercial!!" And the 2 minute warning, aka 2 minute commercial. I cannot for the life of me see the American love affair with this sport.

No, being in the heart of ACC country is why I didn't pay much attention to NCAA football until very recently. Now I do like to watch the good teams play on TV, but that rules out any home-rooting of any sort. Wake Forest is my ACC team (from childhood, because Dad went there), but I don't make any effort whatsoever to see their "football" games.
I love the NFL, but I don't pay much attention to the hype. I'll tune in on Sunday (and the occasional Thursday) once the season starts and follow religiously, but sticking strictly to over-the-air transmissions keeps me from over-saturation. (That and avoiding my sports obsessed brother.)
But I prefer NCAA basketball above all. Wake Forest is still my team but I have a love/hate relationship with Carolina and Duke. I love to see them beat anyone out of state and lose to any other school in state. And when they play each other, I just enjoy the show. (I stress - only in basketball. I couldn't care less what either of them do in football.)

While I disagree with your knock on the basic premise of the game (possession, etc). I will not disagree with the commercial thing. The whole sport is over-commercialized in general!
But the premise of the game is simple. You get 4 downs to get 10 yards. If not, the the other team gets the ball. It's really no different than other sports - one team is trying to advance, the other team is trying to stop them.
But yeah there is a lot of down time and wasted clock ticks.
The NFL would gain a lot more of my respect if they change the way overtime is played. What a joke.

Screw those over -paid pansy asses who wont go after the ball if its just over thrown. College football is where all the fun is. They play hard from whistle to whistle. I would rather watch golf on Sundays than watch NFL.

Well, I guess it's time.
Cubby, you want to start the College Football thread this year? I'll start the NFL one. :D
